Last week, I was at the Take Off Startup Summit, where innovation, collaboration, and entrepreneurship were on full display! 🇬🇧🇹🇷The relationship between the UK and Türkiye in science and technology keeps getting stronger. This was clear during my chat with Deputy Minister of Industry and Technology Zekeriya Çoştu. A standout moment was meeting the global champions of Department for Business and Trade's "Unicorn Kingdom: Pathfinder Awards": Massive Bio and Bottobo Robotics. These innovative companies exemplify Türkiye's potential to deliver cutting-edge solutions and game-changing technologies to the world stage. The UK Pavilion was another highlight, where I connected with forward-thinking British companies and leading venture capitalists. Their presence underscored the thriving partnership between UK and Turkish tech ecosystems👩💻 I also enjoyed the opportunity of exchanging ideas with some of Türkiye's most influential voices in entrepreneurship, including Ahu Buyukkusoglu Serter, Cenk Bayrakdar, and Siret Ünsal. The Summit made it clear that there’s huge potential for UK and Türkiye to work together even more and deliver world leading research and development. Showcasing UK Agri-Tech Excellence in Antalya, Türkiye ☀️🌱 Türkiye is one of the top-10 agricultural producers in the world, and Kazakhstan has a vast potential to be a global agri-exporter. That's why last week, my team at Department for Business and Trade organised a trade mission to Türkiye, connecting 11 UK companies specialising in regenerative agriculture with businesses and key contacts from both countries. Key highlights: 🌿 Attendance at the Growtech exhibition, the region’s leading agricultural trade event. 🌿 100+ meetings held with 30 Turkish and Kazakh companies over two days. 🌿 Insights shared on plant protection regulations, and discussions around tackling emerging crop diseases through UK innovation. 🌿 A fascinating site visit to @Erust Farm, showcasing innovative growing techniques. I can’t wait to see how these fresh (and delicious!) partnerships evolve to benefit our countries. 🇬🇧🇹🇷🇰🇿 Reach out to my team for opportunities in agriculture: ExportSupport.EECAN@fcdo.gov.uk

UK 🤝 Türkiye The UK and Türkiye are working together on some of the world’s biggest challenges, and to help continue to strengthen our relationship, Minister of State Europe, Stephen Doughty visited Türkiye last week. His visit underscores Türkiye’s importance to the UK across defence as a NATO ally, and as a key economic and trading partner. 🇬🇧 🇹🇷 During his visit the Minister: - Met with Deputy FM Mehmet Kemal Bozay, where they discussed further bilateral cooperation - Paid his respects to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Türkiye, at Anıtkabir, laying a wreath, and signing the Book of Honour. - Visited Sabanci University Nanotechnology Research Centre - Sunumsabanci, which has recently won 2 Horizon Europe Projects with UK partners. - Opened our business networking event for a delegation of UK Chemicals companies attending the largest chemicals fair in Türkiye. This was a very timely visit after some recent business successes, such as Massive Bio and Bottobo Robotics winning the international pathfinder awards for innovative new businesses, and Türkiye Wealth Fund issuing their first Sukuk worth USD 750 million at LSEG (London Stock Exchange Group), receiving USD 7 billion in demand—14 times the initial offering! As we rapidly approach the end of 2024, I am looking forward to what 2025 has in store for this growing and mutually beneficial relationship between our two countries.
