September comes to an end. The last week of September was all about CITY—or should I say, CITI-ZEN. At the 10th World Free Zones Organization ("World FZO") World Congress in Dubai today, IEF Secretary General Joe McMonigle participated in the "The Future of Energy" session alongside John Defterios, former Emerging Markets Editor, CNN, Nawal Yousif Alhanaee, Director of the Future Energy Department at the UAE Ministry of Energy, Hasan Shafi, Partner EY-Parthenon, and Corey Gray, President of the Smart Cities Council.

Today we started the journey: “From Smart Cities to Smart Zones”. Applying the principles of Smart Cities to Free Zones is especially interesting, as it placed emphasis on economic models not just finance, as the enabler for social and environmental impact. Smart Cities Council looks forward to collaborating with World Free Zones Organization ("World FZO") in a “Smart Zones” task force, and with a particular focus on Africa in 2025. #JoinUs.
