We're proud to share that we have contributed to Textile Exchange 's Life Cycle Assessment for Cotton. As a data provider for this study, we have collated primary data to be used within the Life Cycle Assessment study and are pleased to support the improvement of data availability. The goal of this study is to provide the fashion, textile, and apparel industry with transparent and reliable datasets on different cotton cultivation systems, as well as recycled cotton, within several countries. The final study is planned to be released in Q2 2025.

❗ As part of its Sustainability Pledge initiative, United Nations Economic Commission for Europe has been working with #garment and #footwear companies to trace their products throughout their #supplychains and thus fully embrace #sustainability, #transparency and #traceability in their production. For example, #fashion company Stella McCartney and its cotton supplier SÖKTAŞ TEKSTİL in #Türkiye were able to fully trace the production of their garments thanks to cooperation with UNECE. Representatives of UNECE have recently visited the #cotton growing, dyeing, and weaving operations of SÖKTAŞ in the Meander Valley, Türkiye, to witness the tracing throughout the entire product value chain. The #regenerative cotton #agriculture practiced by SÖKTAŞ in the Meander Valley enables a 35% reduced use of water, due to increased water holding capacity. Cotton grown through regenerative agriculture rebuilds degraded soils, enhances soil fertility, #biodiversity, #water efficiency and crop resilience, leading to decreased inputs, higher-quality cotton fibres and improved community livelihoods. ‘’Textile and garment industry has highly fragmented, mostly opaque, complex global value chains with lack of transparency and lack of standardized infrastructure and language. Through testing and evaluating UNECE blockchain use case pilots, we've recognized a potential solution to address these complexities,’’ SÖKTAŞ stated. SÖKTAŞ has just joined the Call to Action of UNECE’s Sustainability Pledge, which invites governments, garment and footwear manufacturers and industry stakeholders to pledge to apply UNECE toolkit of measures and take a positive step towards improving the #environmental and #ethical credentials of the sector.
