The steel cutting of Svitzer's new battery-methanol Tug, a milestone reached for the maritime industry, took place at the UZMAR Shipyard a few weeks ago.   Svitzer's and UZMAR's site teams cut steel for the Svitzer’s first-of-its-kind battery-methanol tug’s that will be delivered at Q1,2026. The 6MWh battery-powered tug will be deployed in Gothenburg and is expected to provide zero-emission services across a quarter of Svitzer’s operations in the #port.   Svitzer, a leading global #towage operator has awarded Turkiye’s #UZMAR Shipyard with the contract to build ‘The world's first methanol-battery tugboat' at the end of July 2024. The #tug is based on Svitzer’s innovative TRAnsverse tug design and features a 6MWh #battery supported by main diesel generator and #methanol auxiliary generators for back-up and range extension. Svitzer’s innovative TRAnsverse tug design will allow the battery-powered tug to operate more efficiently than internal combustion engine-powered tugs of a traditional design.

UZMAR DELIVERED THE WORLD'S FIRST VOITH PROPELLER LNG-DIESEL DUAL FUEL TUGS 'SULTANHANI' AND 'SILIVRI' TO BOTAŞ ! The second #tugboat, 'Silivri', which was built as part of the work to expand and rejuvenate the tugboat #fleet, increase towing power, and ensure #sustainable and #environmentally friendly operations, was delivered to Turkish Petroleum International Joint Stock Company (BOTAŞ), which has the most established tugboat organization in Turkey, at a ceremony held at UZMAR Shipyard on 23 December 2024. Following the delivery of the tugboat 'Sultanhanı' in the previous weeks, the delivery of the tugboat 'Silivri' marks BOTAŞ's possession of the first #dual-fuel tugs in Turkiye. The tugs are the first in Turkiye and two of the few LNG-powered tugs worldwide. With the commissioning of the first dual-fuel tugs in the country that are built by UZMAR Shipyard which is known for Its unique projects for leading Turkish and global operators., BOTAS has further strengthened its fleet to provide more sustainable, environmentally friendly, and economical solutions. The TRAktor V3900-DF series tugs will operate under the Regional Directorate of Petroleum Operations of BOTAŞ in Ceyhan, Turkiye. TRAktor V3900-DF series tugs that are 39 meters long, 15 meters wide, and have a #towing capacity of 80 tonnes, were meticulously designed by the world-renowned Canadian naval architecture firm Robert Allan Ltd. The #painting of the BB Power main block has been meticulously completed in the enclosed painting hall, and it is taken to the next station before the #launching. After the installation of the main #equipment, the main block will be assembled with the #accommodation block, and the #tug will be launched in a very short time.
