Just after the earnings report for the first quarter, on 25th April, Google made a strategic move. They laid off at least 200 employees from the core team in the USA and are planning to shift a few of these job roles to India and Mexico. This decision is part of their ongoing efforts to optimise their operations and reduce operating costs. As per the latest reports, Google has cut 50 employees from the engineering team based in California headquarters.

Who Announced The Layoffs?
Azim Hussain, the vice president of the Google Developer Ecosystem, announced the layoffs via email. He told CNBC, “We intend to maintain our current global footprint while also expanding in high-growth global workforce locations so that we can operate closer to our partners and developer communities.”
Also, Alphabet, Google’s parent company, announced they will be laying off approximately 12,000 employees, which is equal to six percent of its total employees, following a downturn in the online advertising market.

The Google representative stated in the New York Post that impacted employees will be able to seek other job openings within the company. They further mentioned that they are looking to streamline structures to provide employees with more opportunities to work on innovative projects and core priorities.

As per Business standard, approximately 75 ooo people lost their jobs in the technology sector this year. In the last month, Apple laid off 600 employees working on its car project. Tesla also sliced off 14,ooo jobs because of declining sales.
