Kudos to The Energy Chamber of Trinidad and Tobago for successfully hosting the Trinidad and Tobago Energy Conference 2025, providing invaluable insights and fostering meaningful discussions on the future of our energy sector. The keynote address by the Honourable Stuart R. Young S.C., M.P., Minister of Energy and Energy Industries (MEEI), was particularly enlightening, emphasizing the critical role of deep-water projects in securing our energy future. He also mentioned the 2025 Deep Water Competitive Bid Round which was launched on 27 January 2025 and covers 26 blocks off the eastern and northern shores. These deep-water blocks will be governed by Production Sharing Contracts (PSCs) and the 2025 Model PSC is being shared on the MEEI’s website. While there are similarities from previous PSCs, I would like to highlight a few key tax provisions of the 2025 Model PSC: - Royalties and Taxes such as PPT, UL and SPT (just to name a few) will be paid by MEEI on behalf of the Company; - The Company is required to pay its tax liabilities in respect of – Withholding tax, Property tax and Stamp Duty; - The PSC is ring fenced i.e. profit/losses cannot be consolidated with other PSCs/operations; - The Company is required to pay custom duties and VAT on the importation of equipment and materials (to the extent not exempt under law); - Cost recovery will not be allowed on expenses in which taxes such as WHT, IPT and PAYE were not withheld/paid where applicable. #EnergySecurity #InvestmentOpportunities #EnergyFuture PwC Trinidad and Tobago
