It was arguably the emotional high point of Thursday’s Big Bang Theory finale — and now you can watch it again. We’re referring, of course, to the poignant Nobel Prize acceptance speech that Sheldon delivered in the episode’s closing minutes, in which he paid tribute to his A-team (see video, above).
The speech was the most scrutinized aspect of the finale, per showrunner Steve Holland. “That’s the piece we had earliest on and that’s the piece we thought about most,” the EP reveals. “And then watching that moment play out [during the taping] after not only 12 years but these months of thinking about it was unforgettable.”
As Holland told TVLine in our series finale post mortem, ending the series with Sheldon and Amy on that stage “felt right,” adding, “We’ve talked for 12 years about how brilliant these characters are, how brilliant Sheldon and Amy are…. They’ve had discoveries that have turned out not to be true in the past, or things that sort of slipped away because we were always trying to live in the world of real science and not break that world by discovering something that didn’t exist. But this being the last season, we didn’t have to live in this world anymore. So that freed us up to let them have this moment.”
Am I the only person who thought that after Sheldon fell asleep early in the first part of the episode, that everything afterwards was going to be a dream sequence? But overall still a good finale, better than most endings for long running shows.
I got scared they were going to go down that path. I am so glad they didn’t!
I wish it had been I would have liked to see him wake to Leonard winning it
Not his A-Team, but his “C-Men” :)
Yes. Absolutely
I would have liked to know the reason why Howard always wears a little alien pin on his turtleneck :) Did I miss this part ?
I still had not watched the last few episodes. Wanted to watch them together.
And now from your article title, I know Sheldon won the Nobel prize (or something like this is part of the story)
Thank you.
VERY responsible post.
And yet you came to a tv news website on the day the finale aired. Ever heard of personal responsibility?
That’s like clicking on a tv show that is trending on Twitter on a big episode night, then getting mad because you seen spoilers. You should have realized there would be spoilers on a TV news website. Silly you.
Come on. It was inevitable that they were going to win the Nobel. The whole season was building up to it. It’s not exactly a big twist or shock.
Then, perhaps you shouldn’t have clicked on article that had “finale video” in its title.
Sorry, but that’s on you and not TV Line.
So you don’t watch the last few episodes and they are supposed to not post until you decide to watch them to catch up – common sense, DON’T go to a TV website if you don’t want to see something that spoils something for you ESPECIALLY when it is the end of one of the best shows ever because you know darn well they are going to be posting about it. The onus of not having it spoiled for you was entirely on you. I can’t help but think that all these people that come and complain about being spoiled really wanted to be spoiled because otherwise they would not have come to this website because it was expected they would recap everything about the episode(s). Put on your big kid pants and own your mistake.
@ nd, George H., Rachel, Chuck, and SoFla, you all get a 👍🏼 or several!!!
WTH!!! Way to SPOIL the episode for those who haven’t seen it yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Change the title so it doesn’t SPOIL it for others!
Really?! If you didn’t think he was going to win a Nobel prize at the season finale you never really watched the show. It was pretty obvious that was going to happen.
I still wonder why adult sheldon never mention anything about dr Sturgis??? not even when mentioning meemaw..
I wondered that too. Plus I would have loved for Laurie Metcalf to have to at least been in the audience, or just one more time on the show.
She’s been on broadway recently. The timing might have been bad.
That’s something I’m surprised no one asked the producers as the show was closing. We got him finally meeting adult Tam but nothing about Sturgis. Considering how much of an influence he’s had on Sheldon in the first couple seasons, it seems remiss for Sheldon not to have brought him up in the past couple seasons. Only explanations I have are it’s something the writers/producers for TBBT never considered or it’ll be revealed in an upcoming season why he never brought up Dr. Sturgis to his friends as an adult.
Don’t you mean his C-Men
Man, CBS really milked it for this final episode. There were I’m sure 10 minutes or more of commercials before the final segment aired. Way to gouge the fans CBS.
Can’t.stop.crying. Haven’t even seen the episode.
I’ve fallen off the BBT path the past three seasons, and I made sure I watched this episode. That speech felt so genuine, Mr Parsons knocked that out of the park. Very emotional and incredibly well done.
Kudos to the entire cast and crew.
Sarah Michelle Geller (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) was a great get! Glad to see Sheldon’s big moment showed so much growth.
Now I know he won I’ll never watch season 12. This man didn’t deserve it he was intolerable at the best of times Leonard should have got itjust for putting up with Sheldon.
I loved the ending. I loved it even more when I saw the ending of Young Sheldon
Amy and Sheldon in the last episode was to me the best ever.
It showed true friends really stick together
