Just hours after Carson Daly revealed that Adam Levine would depart The Voice after 16 seasons, the Maroon 5 frontman has opened up about his exit.
In a lengthy Instagram post on Friday, Levine reflected on the “surreal experience” of coaching The Voice for the last eight years, offering thanks to the show’s fans, producers, fellow coaches and host Carson Daly. (Even Blake Shelton gets a heartfelt shout-out!)
“[The Voice] went on to be a life-shaping experience that will be close to my heart forever. Thank you NBC for signing me up,” Levine wrote. “I am truly honored to have been a part of something I’ll always cherish for the rest of my life.”
He continued, “To all of the loyal Voice fans, there’s literally no show without you guys. For me, it was time to move on. Your support has meant EVERYTHING… What an amazing ride. Thank you all so much.”
Levine’s exit was first announced on Friday’s Today broadcast. “After 16 seasons, Adam Levine, our beloved coach and friend, has decided to leave The Voice,” Daly said. “Adam was one of the original coaches who launched the show, winning the competition three times and inspiring many of the artists that he worked so closely with over the years… He’ll always be a cherished member of the Voice family… and we wish him nothing but the best.”
When The Voice returns this fall, Levine will be replaced by Gwen Stefani, who served as a coach during Seasons 7, 9 and 12. She’ll be joined by previously announced returning coaches Shelton, John Legend and Kelly Clarkson.
Just two days ago, TVLine published a Voice op-ed, which suggested that the NBC reality show needed to give Levine a season (or two) off. In a corresponding poll, nearly 60 percent agreed they had had their fill of Levine, while 27 percent worry the show won’t be the same without him.

That’s sounds very genuine. It’s his right to move on and i can’t wait for him to make more music and tour more.
Hope all the best for adam, nothing last forever. Will miss the brotherhood banter. Hahahaha. Always a good laugh. ”Tis a great show. I wonder what you will do next Adam? New music for sure. Xoxox
He’s one of the producers for Songland which starts next Tuesday. I like the concept behind the show and hope it all works out.
Will miss but someone new will be nice. Not that big a fan of Gwen but….
I’m heartbroken to see Adam leave the show. Maybe if all the critics and so-called fans of the show had left him alone, he’d still be with The Voice. Adam made a huge mistake last year, on that we can all agree, but carrying it this far is childish. I wish Adam the best in his future. Maybe one day you’ll return and I, personally, will welcome you with open arms
It was Tvline’s story that made him do it!!!😂😂😂 Y’all said he needs to take a break and poof, he’s out!
Oh please share your wisdom so that we can get The Kids Are Alright uncanceled😂😂😂😂
Even though he’ll definitely be missed, he has every right to move on to other opportunities. I hope that he returns once in awhile, either as a guest mentor or as a coach again. I think the show would be fresher if all the coaches would take a season off now and then…
It was the right move.. I’m guessing Gwen took over because they didn’t have much time to search for a replacement. Would definitely have preferred Jennifer, but she has more of a career so I’m guessing she wasn’t available on such short notice.
Really wish they had brought Gavin Rossdale in from the UK version of the Voice, he would bond with Blake I am sure.
Lol
Gwen’s ex bonding with Gwen current boyfriend.. Yeah it sure does sound good
Glad we no longer have 2 see ridiculous hair styles and gym wear on Adam. Don’t let the door hit ya where the good Lord hit ya on the way out
It’s…”Don’t let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya”
I will really miss seeing Adam in his seat. I have noticed this season he seemed more disconnected and possibly bored with the show so I think he needed to move on. I just hope that his leaving doesn’t unbalance the natural vibe of the show. The bond of Adam and Blake was such a natural occurance that I hope they don’t try a manufacture a new fake one.
I think Blake will bring him back as a guest mentor! That would be fun to see.
Truly going to miss Adam, but after 16 seasons of trying to find something new to say in the blinds, then having to deal with the country music voting block, I can see where it may have run its course for him.
Not crazy about the choice of Gwen. She always sees to try to remake the singers instead of bringing out the best of what they already display.
Won’t happen, but I’d love to see Blake bring in Adam as his guest coach for the battle rounds. Love to see them working together during those segments.
Totally agree with both your good points. I’ve only been watching for about three seasons, and even I’m already bored with the type of comments the judges have to make. And to me, the country music voting bloc has got to be so frustrating to deal with. I’ve seen Adam champion great, unusual artists — especially those who are more jazz-oriented and experimental — who have phenomenal voices and great talent, only to have them get voted off because country music. (Although this season, it played against the country finalists because the three country guys split the vote, and the pop singer with the spectacular voice made it through.) I won’t be watching again.
I feel the same way. Good points you made.
Good luck Adam in what God has in store for you.
Class personified!!! Thank you. Adam, for a fantastic journey all these years. Be blessed!
Well, the 60 percent you claim wanted Adam to get a season or two off ruined it for my family. After seeing that I don’t blame Adam for stepping down and moving on. We have watched since season one, but printing something that horrible is enough for me. He did nothing to deserve that kind of negativity. Your show will spiral down now. This is a sad day.
Don’t be silly, Julie. The decision was made long before TVLine made that article lol.
👎🏼
Class personified!! Thank you, Adam, you will be sorely missed!
Thank you Adam for sharing your life with us and your authenticity. You are loved.
NO Gwen Stefani!!!
For the rest of us, it was time too, so that worked out nicely.
Adam, you are a lucky guy who is blessed with so much talent. The show won’t be the same without you. But there comes a time when you need to do new things. Can’t wait to find out what the future holds for you.
From a very loyal fan
You will be missed dearly! blessed with so much talent ,The Voice won’t be the same without you and one of the reasons i watched the show.I will miss you.
Adam Levine got undeserved criticism for supposedly “worst half time show ever”. Suddenly it became cool to hate on Adam and Maroon Five. I think that had a huge impact on his experience on The Voice this season.
I will miss him and hope he focused on more music! I think he got a very bad rap.
Sad to hear that you are leaving I watch the show for the bantering between you and Blake and of course the singers
God Bless you in all you do
I’m just over The Voice in general. Every season is a big time commitment and to balance that with all of the other network shows and well, for me, something has to give. I also can’t handle the generic positive praise because you can’t (or won’t) provide the truth. Sometimes, a performance just isn’t good for whatever reason. Don’t blow smoke by instead telling the contestant how awesome they look. And to tell someone that they should win the whole thing seems fake once it is said multiple times. I’m not saying the judges should be mean jerks, but is fluffy praise helping anyone?? To those that live for this show(like my husband), have at it. But for me, I’ve moved on.
The show is over for me . You need a rock personality for diversity. There are to many country artists on this show and they all sound the same to me. Nasal, Good luck Adam.
I wont be watching anymore. Not a fan of Gwen. She makes Blake look like a sick puppy
When they started dating and she was on the show she acted like a teenager in love. Actually very sickening. I wax the show for the competition not to watch Gwen han g all over Blake. Its a family show people. I will miss Adam snd will be watching Songland
Good for him. He actually looked tortured in all the photos posted. This job’s supposed to be fun!
Remind me … has this show produced an actual star like AMERICAN IDOL? I think it’s time we ALL moved on.
Well said
I will miss you Adam I know your 🎼 will soar too new heights God Bless Adam.
