Chicago P.D. Shocker: Jesse Lee Soffer to Exit as Halstead During Season 10
Say it isn’t so: Jesse Lee Soffer is leaving Chicago P.D.
The upcoming Season 10 will mark the final season for the actor, who is set to depart the NBC drama sometime in the fall, our sister site Variety reports.
“I want to thank the incredible fans for their unwavering support during the past 10 years and want to express my deepest gratitude to Dick Wolf and everyone at Wolf Entertainment, Peter Jankowski, Matt Olmstead, Derek Haas, Michael Brandt, Rick Eid, Gwen Sigan, NBC, Universal Television, my fellow castmates and our incredible crew,” Soffer said in a statement. “To create this hour drama week after week has been a labor of love by everyone who touches the show. I will always be proud of my time as Det. Jay Halstead.”

Soffer has portrayed Detective Jay Halstead since the show’s premiere in 2014. His impending departure effectively puts an end to “Upstead” — the pairing of Halstead and fellow Intelligence cop Upton (played by Tracy Spiridakos) who secretly wed in Season 9.
The news comes after Benjamin Levy Aguilar, who played patrol officer Dante Torres in the April 13 episode “New Guard,” was promoted to series regular for Season 10. In the episode, Halstead took the rookie officer under his wing as a favor to Platt (Amy Morton).

I never cared for this guy, not believable, way too clean cut for a cop, no grit like the other guys. I never understood why they dropped Elias Coteas and kept him.

No. He’s not alone. Jay has never been a favorite of mine…always so self-righteous. I won’t miss him much, and honestly, Hailie can ride off into the sunset with him or get gunned down in a gun battle by his side.

Halstead could definitely have done better than Upton, no chemistry and they rarely, if any, smiled or laughed! I shall miss him for sure.

Not alone at all, I stopped watching the show went it became a soap with all the relationship drama, particularly around him and Upton but also Burgess and Ruzek and the kid.
Agreed. Seems to happen to all of them. The cases take precedent in the beginning then suffer in favor of who’s hooking up with who and will they or won’t they.

I love ❤️ Chicago PD. Kim and Atwater have a beautiful bond of a friendship. He is there for her and she is there for him. I wish 🤞 they get more screen time around there friendship.
I love Jay and he was tough …I also like AL..especially he and Hank…but Atwater, Ruzek ,Kim and Upton will carry on
The husband burst out with, “What? Are they going to ruin my show?” So, he fits in with some viewers’ fantasies …haha.
Now, eliminating Olinsky eliminated the show from my viewing pleasure … I just work on a laptop sitting by the husband while it’s on. I do nod occasionally. They, definitely, need to bring Al back from some undercover thingamajig. That’s my suggestion for proper plotting.

Upstead should never have happened. Zero chemistry and the whole relationship seemed forced. Glad he’s going. Wish he’d take her with him.
I’m kind of happy to see him go. His part as a detective doesn’t fit. He’s too young looking and timid. I’d like to see a stronger-looking actor for the replacement part.

You have to be kidding! “Chicago PD” is one of the best if not the best cop show around even without Halstead. Oh well to each his own.
I don’t think so! I think it’s a terrific show and I will continue to watch it. There are still plenty of good actors and actresses on that show. I look forward to seeing the new season. I’m sorry that a lot of you feel that Halstead was a bad actor in this. His role played an important part and he played it well. Is anyone else getting the feeling this could be Chicago P.D.’s final season? I know it still does well in the ratings, but it seems like it’s moving towards its swan song.
Well, since NBC is contemplating cutting the 10PM slot and giving it back to its affiliates, it could very well be that a few 10PM shows might get the axe. I certainly wouldn‘t say that „Chicago P.D.“ is safe at this point.
We love Haley and Jay. We won’t be watching any more Chicago series programs. Too many character changes over the last season.
I hate that he’s leaving. I was sick when Sofia Bush exited the show. I loved them two together.

What is happening with these shows? One leaving SVU and now one on this show. I like both shows. Something strange is going on in Wolfe country.

I don’t think there is anything strange going on in Wolf country. It’s just part of the tv world. There are major cast exits every single year. Most of them simply leave because they have had the job for years and are aiming to do something else.
I’d typically agree with you, but there is too much chatter about how Rollins didn’t want to leave SVU, and was forced out. Based on that, I’d think he same thing about Halstead here. I’m sure we’ll never know about either one.
Yeah,upfront apologized for my English but I agree with you, it’s a little bit suspicious, it’s nothing like Sophie exited PD in this case both actors will exited mid-season, both have very similar statements, and when Sophie exited she was just gonezshe stopped engaging on social media when it comes to show,she didn’t post anything related to pd even before her exit was announced, but this actors were active, promoting show welcoming new cast members,…so in my opinion it looks little bit suspicious
It could be a number of things. It could be money, the shooting schedule, etc.
Perhaps he’s just tired of playing the same role for nearly a decade and wants to move on to something new.
Every time I turn around we’re losing another one! I personally loved Jay Halstead and will miss him dearly. Well I guess the love affair is over. NBC what’s going on with all these actors leaving my favorite shows????
I loved Jay and his role. I thoroughly enjoy Chicago PD. The character of Haley did not appeal to me. I do like Hank and do miss Al.

Are these shows becoming to expensive to make with the departure of Rollins from SVU and now him? With this talk of cutting the 10pm slot maybe this is Dick Wolfs attempt or instruction to slim down the budgets on these shows. If Chicago Fire announces cuts, you would have to think that’s probably the case. If memory serves it’s the longest of the Chicago shows and must be getting expensive with a fairly big cast too
Cutting the 10pm slotis dumb where I have lived there are 5 am 6 pm news and the 10 pm news
Remember the big 3 season renewal for SVU and all the Chicago shows in February 2020. This year is the third one so I also belive this cast departures are due to cost cutting to be more profitable when decisions will be made for next season.
Oh no, Jesse Lee Soffer is the main reason I watch Chicago P.D. Love his character, Halstead. I wonder if he wanted to leave, or …! But the show hasn’t been renewed for season 11 yet. Hmm, the plot thickens. I shall miss his character but I’m sure he’ll do something better going forward.

Exactly. Ten years on a show playing one character is a long time. I don’t think people quite get that. I know I have gotten bored and no longer felt challenged in jobs after 5 years or so. Same thing. He had a good run. I really love him as a character, but am also excited to see what’s next.

I’m holding back tears! I love them all but he is my favorite! Tough yet sensitive and super hot to look at! I will miss him dearly and wish him the best! For me, the show will not be the same! I wonder if Jesse Lee Soffer is leaving because he wants to do other things, or he’s been asked to leave! On the other hand, the show hasn’t been renewed for another season, none of the Chicago shows have! It seems most people that leave has been asked or killed off. I shall miss him.

Deadline article make it seem like the long term cast are in contract negotiations and Jesse decided to move on. Seems like he didn’t sign a new contract and is probably just came back to give his character a better sendoff . And on deuxmoi , sources saying he wanted to get out for a while . But who knows , maybe when his final Ep airs and he does an exit Interview. Maybe he will tell his reasons
Never was a fan of him and saw zero chemistry with Upton. Also not a fan of this new guy. But love everyone else! Now maybe Kevin can get more of a story.
I am heartbroken that Jesse is leaving the show! He is an amazing actor! I don’t know if I’ll be watching the show after he leaves.
Mixed feelings about this. Love the character and the actor, but really hate the relationship with Upton so I’m happy to see that go. I didn’t love the show overall last year so I’ll have to play it by ear if I keep watching regularly or not.
I wonder if he will be on the New CBS police drama series!
