Chicago Fire has lost yet another paramedic: Adriyan Rae, who joined this season as newbie medic Gianna Mackey, has exited the NBC drama, TVLine has confirmed.
In Wednesday’s episode, Mackey was offered a position at another firehouse, which would allow for the opportunity for future advancement. After confessing to Cruz that she worries about him on calls and gets distracted, Mackey decided to accept the job offer and transfer. (In related news, it seemed like Boden might have tapped Gallo’s ex Violet as Mackey’s replacement.)

“Adriyan let us know she had some private reasons to leave Chicago,” showrunner Derek Haas explained to EW.com. “To hear that as a showrunner, you absolutely respect what an actor needs. All I can say is we love her, and I know she’s going to be great on some other series. And she left 51 on great terms, so there’s a chance we could check in on her. We’re always looking for something to boost up a crossover! I don’t think we’ve seen the last of Mackey in Firehouse 51.”
“Though it’s coming to an unexpected end, this journey has been nothing short of extraordinary,” Rae wrote in a statement on Instagram. “I have learned sooo many valuable lessons, gone through acting Olympics and come out stronger, and most importantly, met & made so many amazing friends.”
“I ask that you extend to me the same grace, space, and understanding you’d want in any transitional time, and realize that while it is sad, some things are really only meant for a season and that’s okay. And that I am a human and we are all growing,” Rae continued.
Of course, Mackey is not the first paramedic to depart Ambo 61: She filled the position left by Emily Foster (played by Annie Ilonzeh), who decided to go back to med school at the close of Season 8. Prior to that, Paramedic in Charge Gabby Dawson (Monica Raymund) rode with Sylvie Brett, who, in turn, followed previous medics Chili (Dora Madison), Peter Mills (Charlie Barnett) and Leslie Shay (Lauren German).

I like Adriyan Rae, so this kinda sucks. Hopefully they can get some stability to the role and quit having so much turnover.
She was fun to watch, but after her thing with Gallo where could they go next?? Cruz looking over them got old. Recycling Gallo’s ex is just that. Another go around. The Shay dynamic was the best. All good twists and turns. Was great to see the way Shay controlled Kelly. Was glad to see Foster go.
The Shay thing is getting old. She’s been gone a long time and Severide is doing just fine without her. I hated to see Foster go, she was enjoyable;e to watch.
Sheesh!! Another female actress leaving I was liking her character too I hope there’s no harassment going on behind the scenes wishing her good luck
People like you are the problem, immediately assuming sexism and harrassment without any evidence.
Yeah because it’s always been so obvious in the past lol. All this person said was they hope there isn’t anything going on behind scenes which is not off base considering the other Chicago shows have had issues. As a woman, I have yet to work a job where sexism or harassment hasn’t been present. When we get to that place then maybe we can assume nothing shady.
Enough with the ‘ambo roulette’. What’s wrong with poor Casey? And even more importantly, will he sell or keep the Rolex?
I was gonna say the same thing about “ambo roulette”. I was hoping against all hopes that, when Mackey got that invitation to switch houses, she’d say no ’cause we’ve already had *one* paramedic, just last season, leave the series. I was hoping that Mackey would’ve turned it down so she could’ve stayed with 51.
Now it honestly makes me hesitant to believe any new paramedic is gonna hang around for longer than a season, given the way these last two paramedics ended their runs on the series.
Plus Mills going to ambo and then leaving the same season; Chili coming on for ambo and lasting about a season; Borelli going to ambo and then leaving soon after. Shay died after two seasons.
Gabby and Brett are literally the only two paramedics who have lasted more than two years at 51. It’s kinda bad.
I like Mackey as well, I was glad that Greg wasn’t on that episode. Anyway Mackey didn’t get to say goodbye to Gallo, did they decided to stay friends instead? Anyway I’m sure it won’t be the last we see of her.
That was actually kind of messed up her and Gallo should have gotten enough screen time to say goodbye to each other. I kinda don’t like Violet coming at all.
Yeah I know but at least Mackey and Cruz said they’re goodbyes though. Is it just me or does the new guy that’s riding with Brett gets on my nerves? Anyway I’m happy that Greg wasn’t on that episode, and again why does Matt felt the need apologize to Brett shouldn’t Brett be the one to apologize to Matt for flirting with Greg and rubbing it in Matt’s face and taking Greg s side.
Seems like they have a problem keeping people of color on the Chicago shows.
🙄
Found our “everything is racist!” troll for the day.
No, YOU are the troll.
Don’t be that person.
Except for: Cruise, Boden, Atwater, Sexton, Lockwood, and Goodwin who have all been on their shows since the beginning you are completely right. ** Please note sarcastic tone***
Oh please!
Her character didn’t make much of an impression, but also didn’t have much of a chance. I hope the next person stays for a while.
Sorry to see her go, she was a great asset to 51. I hope I see her on another series. Not too fond of Gallo’s ex joining the team, she’s annoying.
Finally someone who isn’t excited about Violet as well! I still miss Foster and I am not happy to see Mackey go. I wish Derek Haas would stop dangeling Dawson like a carrot, when Monica’s obviously moved on to Hightown and isn’t coming back.
Can we have Mills back now then please???
I’d like Mills back too
Me too!!
Didn’t Mills leave Chicago because he had unrequited love for Dawson? If that is correct, then it could go two ways…one,he moved to P.R. when he heard Gabby was ‘available’ or two, he could move back to Chicago and 51 because she’s gone.
Mills left Chicago because his widowed mom and sister moved to the East Coast and dogged him to stop firefighting before he died like his dad. He hit on Gabby on his way out but did not leave because of her.
I am sorry to see her go. I liked her energy and warmth and was curious to see where she and Gallo would go. I would like to have seen her form a friendship with Stella and Brett. I’m glad she’s leaving on good terms with the show and hope she (the actress) winds up in a good place professionally and personally. That said, I do not want them to replace her with Violet. I didn’t care for her and don’t think she and Gallo make a good combo. They are going to be trouble together, and not in a good way.
It seems like some of the actors don’t want to have to spend significant time in Chicago where they film. I don’t know if they want to go back to the LA weather or they feel that if they’re not in LA or NY they are missing out on other acting opportunities which are not available in Chicago.
It’s also a brutal set to work on in terms of hours, weather conditions (they work outside no matter what, even if it’s 20 below), and physical demands. Fire is a lot of outdoor work in Chicago, and this was a rough winter. Plus, Adriyan came on during a pandemic filming schedule, which is expedited.
I thought Mackey was weird. She only wanted to hook up with Gallo if Cruz gave her attention for it, and Cruz was creepily up in her business and controlling. Good riddance.
An unpopular opinion, but I wish they’d get rid of ambo altogether. The ambo calls are usually the most boring part of the episodes, and it’s even worse when Brett gets a bug up her butt about ~something~ and spends the whole time meddling and then righteously pontificating. And, clearly, the show struggles to keep long-term paramedics.
I think Brett got that way because of her time away from 51 when her and the chaplain were living together in some other location.”Righteously pontificating” was that guy’s middle name.
I was under the impression, that people were replaced primarily for getting the best at the lowest price. Sophia Bush left because Chicago was just too cold and physical for her. I don’t like all the changing; but in order to come up with new ideas for episodes – there has to be change. This does no way mean only blacks are left out. That is totally racial. The show is what it is, Chicago becoming more like Detroit.
I suggest that Casey andSylve get engaged to fortify their very strong relationship. I believe that this will assist with public input on the various staff changes
