One of Chicago Fire‘s original cast members is officially done battling blazes full-time.
Eamonn Walker will exit the long-running NBC drama as a series regular after playing Deputy District Chief Wallace Boden for 12 seasons, our sister site Deadline reports. The actor will not be entirely missing from the show, as he is expected to appear in a recurring capacity in the future, per Deadline. (The series was already renewed for a 13th season this past March.)
Boden has been M.I.A. recently, with Severide stepping in as the firehouse’s ranking officer in his absence. The chief, however, will return in the May 22 season finale, when “Boden makes a decision that impacts the race for Deputy Commissioner,” per the official synopsis.
Walker has starred on the show since its 2012 debut and was one of five remaining series regular from the first season. (The others are Taylor Kinney, David Eigenberg, Christian Stolte and Joe Minoso.) His departure comes following the exit of Kara Killmer as paramedic Sylvie Brett, who married Matt Casey (played by former series regular Jesse Spencer) and moved to Portland with him in the season’s sixth episode. Additionally, Alberto Rosende, who played firefighter Blake Gallo, departed in the Season 12 premiere.
Fire isn’t the only #OneChicago series that will bid adieu to a longtime cast member this month: Tracy Spiridakos, who plays Detective Hailey Upton, will say farewell to P.D. in the Season 11 finale, airing on May 22.
Chicago Fire Season 12 is currently airing Wednesdays at 9/8c on NBC. Hit the comments with your reactions to this latest #OneChicago departure!
This one hurts, but at least he’s not permanently leaving. The show’s been on for 12 years, you almost have to make up reasons why someone as incredible as Bowden isn’t promoted higher through the ranks.
No, he can not leave. He is one of the main reasons I watch this show. To many exits in the past couple of months. This one does hit hard though.
I hate to hear all the good people that’s leaving Won’t be as good!!!
I’m gutted that Boden is leaving. He’s such a touchstone for the series. His steady presence in the firehouse is so vital. Getting 12 years was such a gift as a viewer.
The actor who played him is just magic and will be deeply missed.
Can they get tommy lee jones to replace him
No!! Say isn’t so!! I will miss him on this show, he was great on “OZ”. His acting skills were great, and a lot of emotion. He will be missed.
Hopefully, he has another series or some movie work lined up after taking some time to relax. He is a powerful image on screen.
WTF GOING ON WITH OUR DICK WOLF SHOWS OMG
Absolutely LOVE Chicago Fire. We watch it EVERY Wednesday. Sad to see the regulars leave, but it is nice that they’re not written off. It keeps the story glued together to have them referred to, and then seen occasionally.
👍🏼🔥.
So disappointing to learn of the latest departure on Chicago Fire. The show is loosing to many of their top favorite actors 🥺😭
Not surprised. They definitely have been setting this up the past few episodes.
Wow, this is a BLOW, Boden going no!
Just loved to hear him say,
let’s go let’s go let’s go.
Missing him already, with his prominent walk. Farewell Chief.
I love Eamonn and he has been wonderful on the show from the beginning. But as in real life, people do move on, and it looks like Boden will be promoted to Deputy Commissioner. That’s a perfect fit for the show and opens up new story possibilities. Glad we still get to see EW!
Makes sense – I expect he’ll become Deputy Commissioner (probably to protect 51) and will pop up in that capacity as the current known command staff do. I feel like they’ve been setting Severide up to take over as battalion chief, which is a bit of a smack in the face since they pushed the arson investigation angle for him, but the way they’ve been doing the Stellaride dynamic with him investigating and it being a thing makes it a ‘do this to keep the relationship’ thing for him to move up into command. Especially as it still lets him attend and nose around fires.
I love Boden, and Eamon does a great job portraying him. I will miss seeing him on the show regularly.
I’d Hate to see Chief Boden leaving the Show, since He is the Shows Staple Character. But I understand why he’s leaving. Since all the Fire Fighters I’m used to Watching, the show just won’t be the same to me anymore! I’ve been a Fan of Chicago Fire since it started, I will continue to watch it, but it will just be different!!!! I’m still a Fan!♥️❤️♥️❤️
Love 💕 🎈💕💯💕🎈😊 you all!
