The doctor is out: Dominic Rains will not be returning to Chicago Med for its upcoming tenth season, TVLine has confirmed. Rains joined the Dick Wolf drama in Season 5, playing trauma surgeon Dr. Crockett Marcel.
While fans may not be happy to see Rains go, a potential exit was foreshadowed in the Season 9 finale, which aired on May 22. In the dramatic episode, Crockett was so rocked by the news that his former patient died and that the little boy’s dad committed suicide that he bailed on a surgery. The situation brought up old feelings of helplessness and grief for Crockett, who tearfully confessed to Maggie (Marlyne Barrett) that he knew how the dad felt because he, too, lost a child. He added that he never took the time to grieve his daughter’s death, which made many viewers wonder whether he needed to take some time to do just that.
And Rains isn’t the only longtime member of the Chicago Med family saying goodbye. Diane Frolov and Andy Schneider, who helmed the medical drama since its 2015 debut, stepped down from their post in early April. Allen MacDonald (Prime Video’s Harlan Coben’s Shelter) has been tapped to assume showrunner duties at Med, starting with Season 10.
TVLine’s sister site Deadline was the first to report Rains’ exit. Will you miss seeing Dr. Marcel around the Gaffney Chicago Medical Center? Drop a comment with your feelings about Crockett’s departure below.
This is most likely the last year for Chicago Med.
It’s gone downhill the last couple of seasons and without Crockett it will probably be be unwatchable. Makes me sad 🥺
Agree
I gave a thumbs up because I agree. I too am sad that he is leaving. I really enjoyed his character and wish we got to see more of his personal life. If Grey’s Anatomy has taught us anything, though, it’s that a medical show can certainly continue out well past his suggested expiration date.
I was mainly watching it only so I knew what was going on during crossovers but gave up, too many cast changes.
Oh wow..😱
Sorry to see Crocket go. It’s nice to have some continuity on the show. Staff members come and go in actual hospitals. These medical shoes are not reality TV however.
Budget cuts are hitting. I wonder if they’ll get another male ‘senior’ doctor or if they’ll just make due with the people they still have.
They need a surgeon, so there will be someone, but they’ll probably vacillate around surgical subspecialties the way Crockett did (transplant and general and 2.0 and and and? yeah no.) with the occasional recurring specialist (Abrams etc.). They’re already condensing with having an OB doing general emergency work instead of being called down from her actual job as needed, sending Dean into surgery despite him being ER chief, there only being one psychiatrist who just wanders around to happen to be close by when someone’s mildly uncalm etc., so it’s not like it has to make sense, but they can’t suddenly avoid having any cases that need *handwave* surgical consult in an emergency setting.
Sorry to hear that, the most handsome man on TV lol.
That’s terrible. He was a great actor and very good looking. He made us all want to watch it. Come on, what ‘s up? Everyone is leaving?
I can’t Crockett is leaving. Such a great character in the show.
This is a terrible disappointment.
Yea that show is going to suck without him on it, I’m about done with these shows, losing too many great characters.
I’m happy he’s not coming back. He looks more like a mob guy than a doctor and was never given a serious romantic part in the series to change that.
The show is about taking care of sick people not romantic relationships 😒
Yes, but their personal lives tie into it. That’s why we get attached to the character.
Many ethnically featured men look like mob guys or gangsters or whatever. Many of the same are real people with real careers.
Both he and Pej Vahdat played doctors (Pej was Aristoo on Bones) and also terrorists on NCIS.
.
In fact, Dominic’s episode was so memorable that I knew it as soon as I read the description! (When I went back and wanted to watch it after becoming a fan, I mean.)
This is a disgustingly racist take.
He was my favorite character and am very disappointed that he’s leaving. It won’t be the same without him and it’s such a shame.
I will miss Domenic Rains. He was an excellent character and a strong one.
Dr Marcel’s character was a class act. With him the last of my favorites to go, no need to continue watching Chicago Med. Good Luck, Dominic with your future endeavors.
I’m ok with it if Conner comes back but I’ll miss Marcel
Colin Donnell “Conor” is supposed to be joining FBI International, so I doubt he’ll come back.

The Wolf shows do not seem to be able to hold a cast together at all lately. The only guarantees of staying seem to be Mariska Hargitay and Ice T. Makes on appreciate the Blue Bloods cast even more and how they only had minimal losses (Amy Carlson and Sammi Gayle) to the main cast over 24 seasons.
What about S. Epatha Merkerson and Marlyn Barnett? They’ve been there since the beginning.
A lot of the minor characters have been consistent too, to the point of earning names and promotions.
You want to love hate this doctor yeah he will be missed
These shows have good people and then they get rid of them.
Yes I will miss the Dr. He’s a very good character. So don’t leave.
Dr Marcel is a major part of that show and it will be very disappointing not to have you on it
Frankly I won’t miss him, his character was never my favorite. I wish they would bring back Dr. Rhoades, the other Dr.’s that med had were better characters and more fun to watch. But let’s face it how entertaining is it for the actors to be in the same place doing the same thing year after year. There is only so many things patients can have wrong with them and for me the show is pretty repetitive. My least favorite show of the One Chicago franchise.
I’m surprised by this news. However, given what happened in the finale, and the fact that I felt like Dr. Marcel was getting tired of the political side of medicine, it makes sense as well.
I really like him. He plays his part so well that you feel what he is suppose to be feeling. Will miss him lots.
He’s the only reason I watch the show
Oh no! I love Crockett! I was afraid he was leaving because of the ending of last season. The show will not be the same.
Well, IMO, anyone can leave Chicago Med and I’ll still watch, with the exception of the Dr. Charles. The day he leaves Chicago Med is the day I’m leaving Chicago Med. There, I said it. The producers better treat Oliver Platt right so he doesn’t wander off the reservation, too! He’s my favorite character, and he’s the thread that keeps everything together!
I agree with you. I love this show and will continue to watch it. So much better than Grey’s. Now there’s a show that relies on relationships instead of medicine and should have stopped about 3 years ago!
Love this! Me too!
I feel the same way. I hope he stays unti the end.
Please keep Dr Marcel he does make that show, and he is a great person as a doctor please reconsider him of leaving the show won’t be the same without him
Awww, I watch Chicago Med because of Rains. Darn, he is th show :(
