A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight has cast its central characters, Dunk and Egg, HBO announced Friday.
Peter Claffey (Bad Sisters) will play Dunk, aka Ser Duncan the Tall, in the forthcoming series. Dexter Sol Ansell (ITV’s Emmerdale) will portray Egg, Dunk’s young squire.
Per the official logline, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is “set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory” and “great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”
In addition to Bad Sisters, Claffey’s credits include Harry Wild and Wreck. He also is a former player for Ireland’s Connacht Rugby.
Ansell’s work also includes Christmas on Mistletoe Farm and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
The prequel was formally announced in April 2023. The series will be written and executive-produced by George R.R. Martin and Ira Parker. Ryan Condal, who currently serves as House of the Dragon‘s showrunner, Owen Harris, Sarah Bradshaw and Vince Gerardis also will be EPs. It is slated to premiere in late 2025.
