Earthbound Astra is sticking with the Legends of Tomorrow. The character’s decision to explore the human world in the Season 5 finale cast some understandable doubt about her future, but TVLine has learned that Astra’s portrayer, Olivia Swann, will return as a series regular for Season 6.
The English actress first appeared in a pair of Season 4 episodes before becoming a full-time member of the cast the following year. In the Season 5 ender, Astra gave Constantine’s soul coin back to him and announced that she wants to try living a normal life on Earth.

“A lot of times with characters, we bring them on, and you just have this sneaking suspicion that there is more to explore,” executive producer Phil Klemmer previously told TVLine. Like with Jes Macallan’s Ava Sharpe, Tala Ashe’s Zari 1.0 and Maisie Richardson-Sellers’ Amaya in their own early days on the series, “you just kind of had this nagging suspicion of like, ‘Oh, God, I know there’s so much more that you can do, but we just ran out of time,’ and Olivia’s one of those performers. When you saw the sorority episode, that was her first chance to sort of exist out in the world. You get to see that she’s got all these sort of hidden gears.”
With Astra free from Hell now and trying her hand at human life, “She’s got a lot to figure out, and that could be super, super fascinating,” Klemmer continued. “And she’s great for Constantine as well. Their history really provides a great dynamic.”
Plus, “we need more bad people! Like, let’s be honest,” Klemmer added with a laugh. “We can’t have everybody fully rehabilitated. I guess you [can] just call her totally amoral and cutthroat. That’s an awesome energy to have on our gang of big-hearted sweeties.”
As previously reported, the makeup of the Waverider will, come Season 6, once again look different: Shayan Sobhian, who plays Zari’s younger brother Behrad, has been promoted to series regular, while Richardson-Sellers, who most recently portrayed Charlie, will not be back.
Legends of Tomorrow Season 6 is slated to debut in or before Spring 2021 on The CW.
Are you happy that Astra is sticking around? Hit the comments with your thoughts!
Hmmm… kinda thought she played out her part.
Ditto.
New character time? One that hasn’t appeared before?
I’m sure we’ll get at least one new character this season. Legends rotates its cast more than any other CW program. To be honest I wish it would slow down and give me at least one more season with some characters before it cuts them loose!
They have confirmed that the Legends will team up with a woman in order to help rescue Sara, so there’s at least that.
Personally, I’m curious to see what the writers have in store for Astra, since they apparently feel that there are more stories to tell with her character.
i think it has more to do with the loss of Charlie.
Not a fan of this for simple fact, they don’t write for the characters they already have as it is.
how do they not write for the legends?
By constantly shifting them to different things.
They either replace them entirely (Zari), or give us dumb alternate versions (Nora as Mary Antoinette) or just make them not be themselves (Frat boy Nick) or of course cut them out entirely (Atom)
i get that but i dont feel there is a ton of character development to work with
Still upset she has to use that accent… It always threw me off she doesnt have a British one.. Other than that happy she’s on the team.. I enjoyed her and zari’s dynamic… And with less Sara and no Charlie.. I wasn’t really amped for Ava time.. So this is good
YESSSSSSSSS!!!
I loved her last season!
Yay, I liked her and I do think there can be more done with her character.
cool i guess
i actually want them to explore hell in season 6, not get away from it, they were using it as a major story for 3 seasons but there is still some mystery around it id rather know about than the wacky and sometimes boringly predictable adventures of the legends
if they go back to hell for season 6, will we might see some dead meta-humans there? also, would it be funny if John Constantine somehow ended up being cursed with intersexism a.k.a becoming Tiresias 2.0/half-woman in his lower half and along with becoming pregnant with ex-lover Desmond’s baby using Des’s stolen sperm by Astra due to Gabriel or the Enchantress wanting to test Constantine to see if he is really over Desmond by messing with his reproductive systems that leads to problems in his new relationship with Zari 2.0 and Des coming back into his life in John’s next storyline for this upcoming season or possible season 7?
well definetely vandal is down there but no longer damien cause he died and mallus, neron and atropos i think just became permanently dead, i could be wrong
cause most other metahumans share little to no connection with the legends
I was talking about the meta-humans and the ones from other earths who died on the flash, supergirl and other shows during the past seasons who could make cameo appearances in hell on Legends this season.
yeah but i count vandal as a metahuman, just one who existed before the particle accelerator thing
A little disappointed by this. Why not get some freshblood inthere? They need more super characters based on the DC universe. They have so many rich characters to tap into… Use them!
i agree but the problem is there is still fans watching arrowverse who literally think it needs to get away from comic book roots, not towards it so the writers are trying to appeal to them
Considering all arrowverse shows except LoT went downhill lately, the writers are definitely doing something right. For me, LoT has become the new Doctor Who – not a lot of superpowers, mainly time travel shenanigans.
Really? I thought the last season was terrible.
The whole season is a complete rehash of season 2.
Replace “Spear of Destiny” with “Loom of Fate” and you have it almost word for word.
Only at least the legion of doom guys were funny at times. The sisters… Not so much.
i feel flash actually outdid legends and the other AV shows this year
I’ll disagree. For the most part you have 2 types of fans, ones that think it should follow the comics as close as possible and the ones who dont care whether it does as long as it’s well written. No one is clamoring saying it shouldnt follow the comics other than when there are storylines that dont go over as well/cant be executed as well on tv as in a comic.
” No one is clamoring saying it shouldnt follow the comics”
Zack Snyder
Brian Singer
are 2 names just for start
Wow 2 names of directors I believe? Honestly idc who they are but I recognize the names and I’m pretty sure neither have nothing to do with the arrow verse and other than to fanboys neither are a mass representation of a fan base.
Further I find it hard to believe that either have said anything about Arrowverse shows and i find it even harder to believe they have said they dont want them to follow the comics for no other reason than them not wanting them to. But feel free to give me links of specific examples…
They weren’t talking about the arrowverse, but on super heroes in general.
Both were directors of superhero movies. Snyder did most of the DC universe movies and Singer did most of the Xmen movies.
Both directors absolutely hated the comics. Constantly being quoted as calling them stupid. Singer, for example, forbid actors from bringing comic books on set – claiming he doesn’t want them to read the source material because of how stupid they are.
Hence why both of them in their movies tried to get as far away from the source material as possible.
Ok so again no one is clamoring for the arrowverse not to follow the comics as the initial post from tommymikaelson said I replied to. This has nothing to do with movies.
well i dont know about arrowverse writers exactly but i know people in the superhero genre in movie and tv who are ashamed of the source material
She’s fine as hell, so I’m glad to have her stick around. And who doesn’t enjoy a bad girl.
Jason Inman said it best Legends should of been a two season show
Interesting, because if it had only had 2 seasons, I would never have gotten into the show. I started watching season 3 because of Constantine, and quickly became a fan of the whole cast and the format. But when I decided to start watching it from the start, I could barely get through season 1… I found the majority of the characters incredibly dull and the plot unfairly frustrating. I would have given up on this show after 4 episodes had I not known what I know now. Jason Inman is entitled to his opinion, but it’s far from the only one.
I’ve got no idea who Jason Inman is or why I should care what he thinks but I’ll majorly disagree since season 1 of legends was absolutely horrible.
Yes am really happy
Noooooo. Can legends not have anymore DC heroes? Im sure the producers said the show will be opportunities for Different dc heroes coming in each season
Not a fan of hers. Just bring back Ray!
Thank you!
Totally agree. It feels like they are trying to squeeze Shayan’s character into the goofy-nerdy goodness of the sorely missed Ray.
And somebody please kill Gary already?
she is not my favorite character, Actually I found Astra really annoying for most of the season, but at the end I started liking her relationship with Constantine. If they explore that more I’m ok with her to stick around
I feel the same way. She was a decent bad guy, but the tension of working together with her was at times very frustrating to watch. But I did end up liking her more and more, and especially her dynamic with Constantine. I’d love to see more of them. I’m also curious if Astra’s mom is gonna be an item in season 6. I found it strange that Charlie brought back Berhad and even her dead band members, but Astra’s mom, who was the sole reason to why they got the Loom to begin with, remained dead…
Bring Booster Gold and Ted Kord’s Blue Beetle onto the Waverider, please!
Booster Gold is definitely Legends material. Blue Beetle I figured would get big screen treatment… if we ever get back to the big screen.
I wasn’t expecting this, but I’m curious to see what the writers have in mind for her. I loved Astra’s realtionship with Constantine, so hopefully we’ll get more of that. I wouldn’t mind John acting like a stand-in dad for her, as she gets a second chance to live life on Earth again. I aso hope that they will adress her mom next season… I still find it strange that Charlie brought back Berhad and her dead band members, but not Astra’s mom, despite that being the sole reason to why they were looking for the Loom to begin with.
Are they really any superheros on Legends? A real pity Matt Ryan took this gig after Constantine they are worlds apart, I cant see him on Justice League Dark, a pity as he really is the definitive version of constantine.
I’m still puzzled on why they brought Constantine to this show but decided not to actually wrap his storyline from his show? That ended on the cliffhanger of the angel being bad, so why not continue that on Legends?
perhaps legends can bring evil angel manny back during the second half of season 6 after the aliens arc that possibly sets up a storyline for a maybe season 7 and Manny can bring in John Constantine’s celestial enemy Gabriel as the next big bad?
i think they will bring in enchantress cause they shown her lately and they will probably try to do a better version than the suicide squad version
I could be ok with it — if she looses the Jheri curl. The way she’s styled, its like next will be shoulder pads and she’ll start singing “Thriller” or something. Give her better hair!!!
This show went off a cliff seasons ago. A great many of the episodes are painful to watch.
Astra won me over by the end of the season. I’m actually excited to see what kind of dynamic she’ll bring to the team next year.
I was hoping to get to know Ryan Choi but he vanished after Crisis. Rip is gone, Ray is gone, Snart is gone. The show has list more than it gained.
YEES. Finally Legends does something good. Though Klemmer is dead wrong about Ava, she should’ve stayed a minimal part of Season 3 and never come back (preferably never have appeared in the first place).
since the legends will be fighting aliens in season 6, who’s will/would they fight next if the show gets season 7? evil angels, maybe?
if they have more to explore with her character i have no idea what it is
I think it should explore the social hierarchy of hell through her eyes, it could lead to interesting things, yeah its away from the waverider and legends but im alright with that
unfortunately it probably is just making her a regular so they can pair her with behrad
you may be right about that commnet on behrad. they did want us to pick up on a connection between them in the tv episode
yeah i guarantee they will do something off that and they will play off the whole astra never had a boyfriend in hell and all that
Personally, I thought her character had run it’s course. But “we need more bad people! Like, let’s be honest,” gives me hope. That’s been my biggest disappointment with this show; It started with an assassin with “bloodlust” and two active career criminals who were apart of a hit squad formed for the sole purpose hunting down and killing a man. Yet it was never nearly as dark or as morally ambiguous as it could/should have been.
