Maya Rudolph and Jake Gyllenhaal are both returning for a Saturday Night Live threepeat.
The actors have been tapped to host SNL‘s final two episodes of Season 49, NBC announced Thursday.
Rudolph — who previously served as an SNL cast member for seven years, and now leads Apple TV+’s Loot — is up first, hosting the May 11 installment. It will be her third time hosting, while Vampire Weekend will be back for their fourth appearance as musical guest.
Gyllenhaal, also back for his third turn as host, will then preside over the May 18 season finale, in support of his upcoming Apple series Presumed Innocent. (Watch a trailer here.) Girl Meets World actress-turned-pop songstress Sabrina Carpenter will perform as musical guest for the first time.
In the meantime, singer Dua Lipa is preparing to pull double duty on the upcoming May 4 episode, where she’ll serve as host and musical guest.
The late-night sketch comedy series has been on a brief hiatus since its April 13 outing, which was hosted by Ryan Gosling and became the most-watched SNL episode in more than two years.
Are you looking forward to Rudolph and Gyllenhaal’s returns to Studio 8H?
I was really hoping they would’ve tried again to have Jennifer Coolidge as the finale host since her previous chance was taken away with the strike last season. I’m hoping they tried and it was a scheduling issue with her.
She would’ve been a much better choice over Gyllenhaal for the finale. I don’t care that she doesn’t have anything to currently promote but Jake does.
Maya Rudolph/Vampire Weekend is like a dream SNL lineup for me — I’ll definitely be tuning in live next weekend!
SNL hasn’t been worth watching in decades. I’ve tuned in periodically to catch certain guests, but can’t recall when I last made it through an entire episode. It’s forced and cringe-inducing.
So looking forward to seeing Maya on SNL again!
She’s the best SNL can do?
Seriously a major disappointment.
