Dr. Jared Kalu will continue his residency at St. Bonaventure. TVLine can exclusively reveal that The Good Doctor has elevated Chuku Modu to series regular for Season 7.
Modu was a cast member when the ABC medical drama first bowed in 2017. Initially, Jared worked under Dr. Melendez, alongside fellow residents Shaun and Claire. Jared and Claire even dated for a while, but broke up toward the end of Season 1.
Jared lost his job at St. Bons after he physically assaulted surgical attending Dr. Coyle, who’d previously harassed Claire. He was written out following the Season 2 premiere, at which point Jared left San Jose to continue his residency, off screen, in Denver.
Modu returned to The Good Doctor midway through Season 6. After a four-year absence, it was revealed that Jared forfeited his residency at Denver Memorial to become a concierge doctor — a decision he would come to regret after being back at St. Bons. He eventually agreed to restart the program as a first year, and now works under Shaun.
Modu’s promotion comes on the heels of Hill Harper’s exit. As TVLine exclusively reported in November, Harper (aka Dr. Marcus Andrews) has exited the ABC medical drama amid his real-life bid for the United States Senate.
Modu’s previous TV credits include HBO’s Game of Thrones, Prime Video’s The Peripheral and The CW’s The 100. On the film side, he’s been seen in Me Before You and Captain Marvel, and will soon headline The Origin.
In addition to Modu, The Good Doctor‘s Season 7 ensemble consists of Freddie Highmore (as the aforementioned Shaun Murphy), Richard Schiff (as Aaron Glassman), Christina Chang (as Audrey Lim), Fiona Gubelmann (as Morgan Reznick), Will Yun Lee (as Alex Park), Paige Spara (as Lea Dilallo), Noah Galvin (as Asher Wolke) and Bria Samoné Henderson (as Jordan Allen).
The Good Doctor Season 7 kicks off on a new night, Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 10/9c, where it will now follow new episodes of Will Trent and The Rookie. Episodes stream next day on Hulu.
Why do I have a strange feeling they are going to do a possible affair angle with him and Lea or one of them will develop feelings for the other… just don’t trust these show runners, no way in hell they let Lea and Shaun be in a healthy non drama relationship.
Hope I am wrong but just don’t think I am on this one.
I’m not sure about that. Shaun and Lea have a kid, and parenthood gives the writers plenty of storylines. I think it’s more likely they try to pair him with Jordan now that Danny is gone.
Them having a kid has little to do with Lea possibly cheating on Shaun.
Hope you are right, love Shaun and Lea’s relationship and they deserve to be happy. Hopefully the show runners let them continue that and not mess it up, it’s taken long enough for them to get to this point.
This isn’t Grey’s Anatomy, lol
Well that sucks, I can’t stand his character he just doesn’t fit with the show.
Excellent. Glad he’s back full time.
For me, this is good news for The Good Doctor. I enjoyed seeing him again last season and am glad he’ll be back full-time. Now, if they could just get Antonia Thomas back as Claire, even for an episode or two.
Please, no Claire’s return, the last one was more than enough.
I will be sad , when the show ends. I have enjoyed watching the entire series.
I will really miss this show. I really looked forward to seeing it every week. Why do all the good shows have to stop? I’m not a fan of comedy shows, survivor shows and scary shows.
Really like hospital type shows and the Good Doctor was at the top of my list along with New Amsterdam and Code Black.
Love the Good Doctor. So Much.
