We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, we’re lobbing queries left and right about lotsa shows including Ghosts, Outlander, American Idol and NCIS!
1 | Has any series finale more exhaustively recapped every major moment that came before than Alice & Jack’s six-minute montage?
2 | Who would have expected Gene Simmons to be one of the most effective American Idol mentors in recent memory? We still think Tori Kelly is eyeing Katy Perry’s soon-to-be-vacant seat on the panel, but could Simmons be a valid replacement for Luke Bryan or Lionel Richie someday?
3 | On Bob Hearts Abishola, are we to believe that Abishola has had a brother this entire time — a character who hasn’t been seen or referenced in any of the 92 episodes that preceded his introduction in the series’ third-to-last episode ever?
4 | Unless the NCIS team was working on a weekend, why were the funny pages Jess took from Tim’s newspaper in color?
5 | On NCIS: Hawai’i, how completely and totally obvious was it that the wife was in on it? Were you going a bit batty waiting for the team to figure that out?
6 | Twenty-one shots for All American’s Spencer on his 21st birthday? Were his friends secretly trying to kill him? And the18 he actually took should probably have sent him to the hospital, right?
7 | Voice mentor Maluma was just begging us to ask, “Who wore it best?” wasn’t he?
8 | In the Shōgun finale, did you find yourself unexpectedly (and deeply) moved by Blackthorne’s final scenes with Fuji — maybe even more so than by his mourning of Mariko? As beautifully constructed as the finale was, do you wish we had seen Toranaga’s plan actually come to pass in real time on the battlefield, rather than in a flash-forward during his final talk with Yabushige? And do you think the EPs are being dodgy about “Season 2” prospects so as to not taint the show’s Emmy campaign in Limited Series races?
9 | Is it perhaps too obvious that FBI: International “guest star” Colin Donnell will effectively be replacing Luke Kleintank? But if he is, what’s the dealio with Teri Polo’s “mystery character” appearing in the same final two episodes of the season?
10 | On FBI, despite the big win for everyone, didn’t the ATF wind up looking like chumps? All this time, all they had to do was hijack a food delivery truck and get the drop on the “Prophet”?
11 | Do you want to tell The Young and the Restless’ writers that it wasn’t Summer becoming an insta-mom to Harrison that made Phyllis a “super-hot granny” but Daniel having Lucy years earlier… or shall we? And who had “Ashley turns into Blanche from Golden Girls” on their 2024 bingo card?
12 | When Jocasta and Murtagh rekindled their decades-long attraction on Outlander, didn’t the chemistry between Maria Doyle Kennedy and Duncan Lacroix set quite a high bar for the actors cast as the younger versions of the characters in the Blood of My Blood prequel?
13 | When The Conners‘ Dan wandered into the kitchen and told everyone to follow him into the living room to see the lotto numbers, were you half-expecting — even for a moment — that the Roseanne spinoff was about to repeat previously retconned history?
14 | Walker fans, are you very much into the playful vibe between Cassie and Detective Luna?
15 | Did American Horror Story: Delicate serve up one of the biggest nothingburger endings in the franchise’s history? And why was the finale so short? Couldn’t they have used those extra 10 minutes to give us an actual conclusion?
16 | Do you think Law & Order: Organized Crime will take advantage of its soon-to-be-streaming status and push the envelope when it comes to language/subject matter after it goes to Peacock? Also, why is it that many Organized Crime fans seem vehemently opposed to the show being “saved” by a move to Peacock, when many NCIS: Hawai’i fans are downright pleading for Paramount+ to “save” their on-the-bubble island drama, if CBS is poised to pass?
17 | Are Next Level Chef‘s Gabi and Izahya two of the most delightful, root-for cooking competition chefs in recent years, on any show?
18 | When Young Sheldon initially announced his decision to attend M.I.T., were you expecting our narrator to chime in with some snide remark about how he’d never actually attend the same graduate school as Howard Wolowitz?
19 | Can the CBS promo department please stop spoiling every Ghosts twist in their promos (Pete’s power, Carol’s death, Flower’s return, etc.)?
20 | Was Farmer Wants a Wife‘s Brandon asking for trouble by repeatedly saying in front of Grace’s family that he lives “in the middle of nowhere”? Speaking of that: FOUR HOURS to the closest airport?!?!
21 | Are we sure this is a picture from Jensen Ackles’ upcoming guest stint on Tracker and not a picture from a lost episode of Supernatural?
22 | How long before Ellen DeGeneres shows up on Real Time With Bill Maher to complain about cancel culture?
Hit the comments with your answers and any TV Qs of your own!
19 Ghosts – yes!!!
I disagree – Flower was revealed to be in the well at the end of the Halloween episode, so showing in the commercials that the rest of Ghosts finally found her not only wasn’t a spoiler to the audience, but in fact very effectively kept hidden the real secret of that episode, which was how Hetty died.
Similarly, Carol’s death being spoiled in the commercials for the Halloween episode effectively hid the reveal of that episode, which was that Flower was trapped in the well.
As for Pete’s ghost power, that was revealed in the cold open of the episode. Sure, the commercials spoiled it, but either way we still would have learned it within 30 seconds of watching the episode.
And Rose’s IRL pregnancy (congrats to her) has handcuffed the writers a little bit. She’s less available to shoot, and only she can see the ghosts, so she’s sitting down (for scenes probably filmed all at once, while they filmed other parts later) and not mobile. This really limits what they can do plot wise. So they have to lean on the Ghosts, and it is hard to promo that without spoiling.
Solid points. And, you may have changed my mind from my initial agreement that the ads are TOO spoilery. However, let’s consider the commercial for next week’s finale. They could have just teased it as Isaac’s wedding, which we’ve been awaiting for a year now (since they got engaged at the end of last season) and it would have felt like next week is going to be a nice happy ending to that storyline as well as the season. (After the massive cliffhanger at the end of season two, that might be a nice way to end.) Instead, they included a shot of the dinosaur-loving stripper from Isaac’s stag do…so…what’s he doing there? Now I think that the wedding might not happen. Maybe it’s a misdirect, and it will still end well. But, if the stripper’s presence somehow stops the wedding, then I think it’s fair to say that the preview “spoiled” the twist since I’m now expecting it.
Pretty sure it’s not the stripper that stops the wedding, but rather another ghost.
I think we are about to meet a formerly dirt dwelling puritan woman
Is Jensen joining Tracker permanently or just a few episodes. It would be great if he came back in season 2
So far only May 12th episode was confirmed. But since he’s playing Colter’s brother, not just someone from case of the week, there’s bigger chance for future appearances. Anything can happen in season 2. I hope we see him again
4 | NCIS – I’ve seen some papers which will publish their comics in colour every day of the week. (The Montreal Gazette, back in the 80s, published their sunday comics in a comic book format – a 8-12 page comic book sized insert. I still have mine)
Yeah, my local paper has been printing the comics in color for 10 years or more.
1. Haven’t seen padding like that in a while–especially in a show like this.
8. No second season, please.
13.I really love the cast and characters on The Conners, but the writing seems to be just throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks. Hope they don’t go there with the lottery and this was just an in joke.
16, People don’t want to add Peacock. And what about crossovers?
I wouldn’t mind them winning the lotto, but not *huge*. A few thousand dollars, enough for them to pay off some bills and get some breathing room, enough for Dan to be able to consider retiring, maybe to allow Mark to attend a decent school so Darlene can try for a career, etc. Doesn’t need to be an extravagant amount to be worthwhile.
16. I don’t watch NCIS/NCIS: Hawai’i, but I don’t hear a lot about a ton of crossovers between the two shows, whereas there’s a ton of interconnectedness (and sometimes outright crossovers) between OC and SVU. My guess would be fans are opposed to a move to Peacock for OC because it might limit how much Stabler and the OCCB can check in with Liv and SVU and vice versa.
2. I enjoyed Gene Simmons’ advice, although most of it boiled down to “go out there and be a star, kid!” But he struck me as no longer energetic enough for the somewhat grueling gig of being an actual “Idol” judge — even if, at 74, he’s exactly the same age as Lionel Richie.
3. Yes, it was weird that “Bob Hearts Abishola” introduced the brother for the first time so late in the series’ run. But I’d also think that dance-minded Dele would also be pretty upset to learn that he had an musician uncle who had escaped the professional demands of his family, and was living a bohemian lifestyle in New York and traveling the world. (If Dele did know about him, the guy would absolutely be his hero, and he would have wanted to visit him long before.)
5. On shows like “NCIS: Hawaii,” it’s pretty much always obvious when one of the people we meet in passing was in on the crime. (Partly because they don’t introduce enough new characters for there to be that many to choose from.)
“how … obvious was it that the wife was in on it?” Also true of Law & Order a week ago.
#1: For sure! I could’ve have skipped all of the episodes before the last one and saved so much time!!
L&O shows are more interconnected so a move to Peacock suggests that there will be an end to that so that the show can stand on its own. Plus there is the unresolved situation with Stabler and Benson. Don’t really understand what non-L&O/Dick Wolf type show is going to boost ratings in that time slot in this streaming era. They should push SVU to that 10pm slot since it’s going to stay on the schedule until Mariska decides she’s had enough.
19. Absolutely! They need to stop spoiling everything with the promos. They are already a high-rated sitcom. People are watching. Let us enjoy without knowing what’s coming up in the episode! I would have loved to have been shocked that Flower was actually in the well. We didn’t even need the short scene where she was calling out from the well at the end of one episode. The episode where they found her and got her out would have been great without that. I would have been even happier had I not known they were going to find her from the promo!
15. Personally, I don’t want an “edgier” Organized Crime, and if it moves to Peacock, that’s what will happen. So I really want it to stay at NBC. It’s a great show & the numbers don’t seem too bad so I don’t get why they’d move it.
2. I did like Gene Simmons on Idol, but most of the songs were a snooze fest. Take advantage of this guy’s rocker background & so some rock music that night. There was so much to choose from. The song choices were just a letdown.
18 Young Sheldon: How is it possible our favorite teen genius didn’tt factor climate into his analysis when comparing CalTech and MIT?!
LOL my actual first thought when Sheldon and his Dad walked out of Logan airport.
19. Ghosts – Yes, thank you! I’m glad I’m not alone on this. I have to mute the tv and look away during Young Sheldon commercials, because they keep showing promos for Ghosts pretty much showing everything that happens in the episode, I’m literally about to watch it afterward.
I thought Ll cool J was only supposed to have a “guest” stint on ncis Hawaii. Where the heck is Lucy lately. Is this giving sam hanna screen time. Why did they mess with this show? Good grief .his acting ability worked in LA unfortunately it doesn’t translate to thos show. Is this perhaps why it hasn’t been renewed yet.
Yes, I said something similar when i noticed LL Cool J’s name under specoal guest star this week.
“Guest” status has to do with the way certain actor’s contracts are written, how they are paid, their billing in the credits (that is where and how their name appears in the credits), etc. In essence it has to do with certain legal and financial issues. It is not uncommon for an actor to be billed as “guest” even when they appear in every episode. As for Yasmine Al-Bustami, the actress who plays Lucy, my understanding is that she was filming for a different production she is in (The Chosen), but it may also be that she is only contracted to appear in a certain number of episodes. And all the articles I’ve read state that financial issues are the reason why we have not gotten a renewal for the show yet. I haven’t checked, but my impression is that the ratings for show have been higher with LL CoolJ being on the show.
18 Young Sheldon: no, I wasn’t expecting that at all.
I wasn’t expecting it, but I would have laughed if he’d said it.
I was expecting it and dreading it. I got so tired of the endless series of jokes on TBBT about Howard and MIT, Leonard and Princeton etc. etc. all I could think of, “No, not again!”
I liked them
Next Level Chef contestants: Izzayah and Gabi are great, but don’t forget Zach! I think he has a chance to win the whole thing!
Zach may be the strongest chef they’ve had any season plus he’s nice
Yes, which is why it annoys me that they are on Gordon’s team. I feel like he engineers this game towards his team. And that stunt he pulled during the draft. Not cool. Not cool at all. So while I really like these two, I am totally pulling for Zach
NCIS Hawaii as soon as the bestie started saying that the husband beat the wife I knew they were in on it — They had showed no reason to think the husband was not good to his wife
15 AHS
As I already posted before, the reveal is that Anna’s baby is Jojo Sewa in her KISS costume
Nothing could ever spoil Ghosts for me.
#16. All of the L&O franchises have had multiple crossovers over the yrs. NCIS not so much. Organized Crime needs to stay on regular tv. One show they could push out would be NCIS Sidney. It was never supposed to be on American tv but was put on due to the strikes in Hollywood. So push that show onto Peacock & leave O/C & NCIS Hawaii where they belong. Not all of us can afford multiple streaming services. As far as I’m concerned there are way too many of those popping up now which if you get most of them cost as much as cable but makes it more confusing for watching.
21) You might also ask… “Doesn’t this picture from Jensen Ackles’ upcoming guest stint on Tracker prove how ridiculous the CW’s rule that Jensen and Jared always be clean shaven was? Come on, 15 seasons (most of them lived on the road and running around forests) and Dean *never* grows a beard — even once?” b/c my first thought was “No, it doesn’t look like a “lost episode of Supernatural”, because Dean never had more than light stubble.” and then I remembered why and rolled my eyes at the CW bosses all over again.
(For anyone not in the know: J&J always grew beards when not filming because they were SO tired of having to shave all the time just b/c the CW execs felt like it would appeal to the demo or whatever for them to be clean shaven.)

Good thing I don’t watch previews. No cable here lol
11. Kind of confused if Summer actually legally adopted Harrison yet (insta-mom is spot on given how they portray her) because it wasn’t shown or told to viewers but you made a good point. Lucy is a teen and has been the granddaughter of Phyllis for a long time but with Daniel being gone so long this family dynamic never really “took” and made that description. however he’s been back in town a while and it’s still kind of weird thinking of grandma Phyllis. does she ever even hang out with Lucy on her own?
The GOLDEN GIRLS is exactly where my mind went when Ashley “became” a Blanche because it was sooo Blanche :))
Live by the cancel cult sword, career destroyed by it in return Ellen. She fed that beast since its inception and now is terminated by its McCarthy like tendencies.
Too bad CBS didn’t move CSI: Vegas and So Help Me Todd to Paramount Plus, instead of canceling those shows.
Might have given me a reason to pick Paramount back up.
