Hijack star Idris Elba as well as the Apple TV+ thriller’s exec producers have all acknowledged that a major obstacle ahead of any Season 2 renewal would be finding a reason to drop Sam Nelson into another nail-biting crisis.
After all, as (barely) explained in the Hijack premiere by his estranged wife Marsha, Sam is no cop or Special Forces vet but just a guy who “gets brought in by big companies, if there’s a merger or takeover,” because he is “the best at handling it.”
“Handling what?” asked Marsha’s beau Dan. “The negotiation,” answered her son Kai.
And in the seven-episode season that just streamed on Apple TV+, Sam found himself using his particular set of skills aboard a hijacked Dubai-to-London flight, to both control the potentially incendiary situation as well as put himself in positions to get messages to those on the ground.
But with Sam being “just” a negotiator/deal closer, star and EP Elba admitted to TVLine ahead of the series premiere that the possibilities for Season 2 are “limited.”
“He isn’t a cop, he isn’t ex-military or a spy or anything like that,” Elba noted. “This is just an ordinary guy heading home, and he gets into this incredible situation. And the likelihood of lightning striking at the same spot is rare.” That said, Elba allowed that “there are ways that we can bring Sam back; I just don’t know what they are yet. But if the audience wants it, then we’ll make it happen.”
Maybe the answer — the “way” — to bring Sam back is right in front of us….
Don’t go the Under Siege: Dark Territory or Speed 2 route and find Sam very coincidentally in the midst of a train or cruise ship hijacking.
Instead, whereas Season 1 happened to bring Sam to a fight, Season 2 could bring the fight to Sam.
Pick up with Sam in the process of closing one of those big, aforementioned corporate mergers/megadeals, in a room full of power players à la Logan Roy. And then go the OG Die Hard route and have ne’er-do-wells crash the proceedings to hold everyone hostage and kidnap or threaten the life of some titan of industry.
Then Sam can do that thing he does so well.
Would you like to see Hijack get renewed for Season 2, to again star Idris Elba? If so, what route would you choose to inject mild-ish-mannered Sam into a another life-or-death crisis?
I think there are a lot of innovative ways to do it, or ones that don’t really feel logic, but are still fun.
Sam in the negotiation role next time would be more logical than him on a train that got hijacked, but I don’t know if that’s what he would want to do.
Given that one of the leaders of the OCG got away – surely it’s plausible that he might want revenge on Sam for his role in the events on the plane. So combining that with the idea of Sam being targeted whilst doing his job, they could quite easily make a Season 2 seem realistic.
Yep!
He got his money and freedom. I doubt he wants to go after Sam.
Not to be a downer, but I think this show was fine as a limited series. Not everything needs a 2nd season.
This. It was my first thought when it ended with *everyone* else dead. It would have to be a different motivation than revenge. Being asked by the police forces involved to help put a complete end to the criminals.
I would love to see another season of Hijack .and love to see another round of adventure with the same hijackers fighting with Alba for another reason in another way…
It doesn’t need a season 2… works perfectly fine as a limited series.. BUT if they do one it should be a separate stand alone storyline with a new cast and situation.
I loved the show, but why do we continually need to bleed good ideas dry? We saw a really good multi episode mini series that had a beginning, middle, and end. Let’s move on to another Idris Elba project.
Had enough of Hijack so not looking forward to season 2 of Sam “negotiations” on any vessel. Although Idris is an excellent actor, the writing was predictable and the hijack scenario was dragged out for 7 episodes.
Not sure how to bring him back but certainly want to see him in season 2. So I hope you will find a way. This first series was good enough to win an award! I’m sure someone can figure out a way! I will look forward & can’t hardly wait.❤️
Loved Hijack and all actors. Elba would need to be recruited from someone to continue. Being at the wrong place at the wrong time doesn’t work (to me) unless comedy is involved. This show was nerve wracking but it was a great mystery also.
Idc how they bring the show back…JUST DO IT. Best show I watched in a long time
Love this idea!
I mean they can do a spin-off show and explore the cheapside organisation and have MI6 try to take them down while they are in the midst of planning another hijacking. Idris Elba’s Sam can play the non-combatant role just like Jack Ryan. After all Jack Ryan was simply a CIA Analyst and not some gun totting spy as portrayed by some of thge TV shows and movies. Every organisation could use a brain like Sam.
Please write a 2nd season, if for nothing else, to bring closure to the storyline. We’re impatiently waiting!!!
In season two it could be revealed that this hijacking is part of a much larger plan that involves more hijacks, whether it be by air, train, or boat and Sam, the negotiator will be brought in to foil those plans and find out who ultimately is behind the planned hijacks that way you can cover as many seasons as you want since he is working to stop a large multi continent enterprise!!
I was thinking that maybe the writers could go the route of the mobster who got away wanting revenge on Sam for causing problems during his escape. We heard repeatedly that “these guys” don’t play around and always take revenge. I don’t know how that might play out, but may be a direction to look in.
Who says Sam can’t have had a hidden past with MI5 OR 6 and left with a new identity . There is the matter of all the money and escaped gunmen . One gunman had a N. IRISH accent which opens up the possibility of a dissident terrorist storyline or an IRISH KINAHAN type drug cartel so maybe they will need Sam and the lead hijacker to help pursue the culprits
Totally loved HIJACK. We would love to see Sam come back in any situation.
