We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, we’re lobbing queries left and right about lotsa shows including House of the Dragon, Hotel Cocaine, Pretty Little Liars and the MLB game played at Rickwood Field!
1 | So, Doctor Who solved one mystery (“Who is Sue Triad?”), but now heading into the finale we’re curious, who is the tea-depriving Mrs. Flood? (Does it mean anything that she has on the same sort of sweater/white dickey as Jenna Coleman’s Clara?) And for longtime viewers, did you notice straight away that Gabriel Woolf was once again voicing Sutekh, after almost 50 years?
2 | What did poor Grant Gustin do to the Tony Awards sound guys, that they grossly under-mic’d him at the top of the Water for Elephants number? And for viewers who were previously unfamiliar with new musical Illinoise, how surprised/delighted were you to discover that it stars So You Think You Can Dance winners Ricky Ubeda and Gaby Diaz?
3 | We know he was under extreme pressure, but didn’t Hotel Cocaine‘s Roman get over his refusal to shoot that guy in the screening room kinda quickly?
4 | On House of the Dragon, A) did “Aegon the magnanimous” raise your eyebrow as well? B ) How slick was Rhaenyra pulling up on and hopping off Syrax like she’s a skateboard? C) We know bumbling assassins Blood and Cheese were in a hurry, but why didn’t they check to make sure they were killing the male heir? (Speaking of, couldn’t King’s Landing get better security for the king’s wife and children?) And D) as much as we love the new opening credits, did the animated tapestry motif remind any Freeform viewers of the late, great Motherland: Fort Salem?
5 | During the AFI Life Achievement Award: A Tribute to Nicole Kidman, did you wonder if the program was going to somehow avoid showing or mentioning Tom Cruise and the films he made with Kidman? And how surprised were you when Kidman said his name during a pre-taped segment?
6 | Safe to say the as-if-it-were-yesterday Modern Family reunion in that WhatsApp commercial has got ABC execs thinking…?
7 | After this week’s The Acolyte, do we think Qimir is Mae’s master? Or might it be someone else?
8 | Did Peacock jump the gun promoting AnnaLynne McCord’s first episode of Days of Our Lives on Wednesday, considering we didn’t actually see her face and then she was nowhere to be seen for the rest of the week?
9 | If Presumed Innocent filmed Pasadena for Chicago, why is the weather so dismal/rainy in random, non-consecutive scenes? Did they just catch a bad couple of weeks?
10 | Did Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars‘ Re-Brand wine marketing fiasco remind anyone of Season 1’s Re-Noun wine marketing fiasco?
11 | With Jesse Lee Soffer joining FBI: International, we can’t help but wonder: What if Hailey Upton did choose to join up with the FBI in the Chicago P.D. finale, and she winds up helping the Fly Team?! (Holy double take!) Also, are you a bit stunned that Colin Donnell didn’t stay on as series regular, given the clear “hero edit” his character got in just two episodes?
12 | On Criminal Minds: Evolution, how did Voit’s daughter sneak a usable weapon past the FBI guards, who surely would have checked Sydney & Co. for anything that the prisoner might use against them? Also, is this Gold Star mystery starting to get a bit byzantine?
13 | Was anyone able to watch The Boys’ lobotomy scene with their eyes wide open?
14 | Was this a pretty cool touch to a portion of Thursday night’s MLB game played at Rickwood Field? Showing how the broadcast would have looked during the era of the Negro Leagues? And how incredibly powerful was Reggie Jackson’s “Coming back here is not easy” answer to Alex Rodriguez’s question? All told, was this telecast a rich, meaningful production?
15 | Were you in any way, shape or form surprised by the reveal of Pretty Little Liars: Summer School‘s Bloody Rose? And if Max doesn’t renew the show for Season 3, which of its many dangling plot threads will frustrate you most?
16 | How long before a DJ — who also happens to be an Evil fan — remixes Kristen’s performance of “Sodomy” from Hair?
17 | After several days of Olympic trials, are you also wondering whether you even possess the capacity to love something the way NBC commentator Rowdy Gaines loves swimming?
Hit the comments with your answers and any TV Qs of your own!
It absolutely gave me Motherland: Fort Salem vibes! The Wheel of Time’s intro does too actually lol. Man, I miss that series! So underrated.
MEH! I got tired of the show after five or six seasons and never watched a single episode again after that.
Oops! That comment was meant for the Modern Family post
So clearly your opinion on a potential Modern Family reboot couldn’t be less relevant if you tried.
This comment made me want to watch Motherland: Fort Salem!! Of course, you can’t stream it anywhere. :(
God I hope they’re thinking about a Modern Family revival! There’s so much potential there. I miss my favorite tv family.
17. Rowdy Gaines is a national treasure.
7. This week totally had me thinking Qimir was Mae’s Master. Early in the episode I thought it but by the end I was much more sure. We’ll see.
13. THANK YOU. Yeah, fully grown watched Nip/Tuck without the ability to skip ahead 39 year old here.
Eyes closed the whole time. But future congrats on the Emmys the foley dept. get next year.
14. As not a massive baseball fan, it was an incredible production and deeply moving. And a great reminder of what baseball is and has been. Reminded me (and hopefully lots of others) that we need to watch more games because it can be incredible. (though my grandfather always said that TV ruined the game and baseball was only good live or on the radio)
i was stunned at what the great Jackson was relaying to the audience. I only saw the clips of what he spoke about.
I am glad he spoke about what it was like back then even though it really was not so long ago.
It is truly disgusting that some people don’t want this history to be known or taught to everyone.
14 (MLB) I really enjoyed the retro baseball game and the love given to Willie Mays
6 (Modern Family) I like those AT&T commercials with cast members from The Office
I didn’t notice the Mrs. Flood/Clara clothing connection! Could she be a corrupted Clara shard?
13. Not me. The Boys is pretty graphic a lot of the time, but that was another level. Hard ep to watch all round, knowing what Homelander was going to end up doing as well.
13 – You’re not allowed to blink while watching The Boys, you’ll miss all the good stuff!
12 – I want my villain of the week back, with arcs no longer than two and a half episodes.
12 – I have watched every episode available so far, and I have no idea what the fork is going on. Everything is so dark (both visually and emotionally) and everyone seems miserable about something. The OG Criminal Minds was graphic but there was usually some type of lightheartedness in each episode. Now it’s just downright dreary. And SO convoluted.
Still gonna keep watching, but…yeah.
#4 – um…so you want Blood and Cheese to check the genitalia of two little kids?
don’t be silly…. it’s not like they’re priests or pastors..
I live in Pasadena and it’s been a weirdly rainy year for sure! We’ve even had rain this month.
17 – Rowdy Gaines is a treasure!
