We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, we’re lobbing queries left and right about lotsa shows including The Bear, All American, Doctor Who and The Acolyte!
1 | Is it a bit poetic that Only Murders in the Building Season 4 guest star Eugene Levy is playing a version of the same character that fellow Christopher Guest movie-verse member Jane Lynch did?
2 | If you watched Hulu’s Perfect Wife: The Mysterious Disappearance of Sherri Papini, were you as let down as we were that Papini herself wound up not taking part in the docuseries? And even in our smartphone age, didn’t the Papini family have an astounding amout of video footage of their daily lives?
3 | As many a Doctor Who viewer has asked, what 15-year-old girl (other than Hermione Granger, that is!) owns a full black cloak? And if teenage Louise was pointing (in a very strange way, mind you) at the nearby street sign to “name” Ruby, who did she think was watching to take note?
4 | On House of the Dragon, was anyone else worried that Jaehaerys’ head would detach and roll off when the funeral cart struck that pothole? Who else guffawed when Aemond said Daemon was afraid of him after that assassination attempt? And admit it, you couldn’t tell which Cargyll brother was which during that bloody fight in Rhaenyra’s quarters, right?
5 | So… when did All American’s Spencer get ordained? And as thrilled as we are for his and Olivia’s post-time jump engagement, wasn’t Olivia’s desire to go back to London (and not necessarily follow Spencer to wherever he got drafted) previously a major point of contention?
6 | Was The View co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin’s 1-on-1 Q&A with Eva-Jane Willis of CBS’ FBI: International — lovely as it was — a bit random for the ABC talker, which is typically obsessed with corporate synergy?
7 | Why’d the Password announcer pronounce mafia as “mahhh-FEE-uh”?
8 | How impressive was the female Quiz With Balls contestant who managed a tuck-and-flip into the water upon getting dunked? Also, has any game show family looked as related as the Brooks girls? ▼
9 | On The Acolyte, haircut via lightsaber seems great in a pinch, but won’t people notice the charred ends of Mae’s locs?
10 | A Sherlock-less Watson procedural, a procedural about Albert Einstein’s great-grandkid, and a procedural about a Van Helsing helping the FBI. Hmm, are we sensing a theme in CBS’ post-So Help Me Todd/NCIS: Hawai’i’/CSI: Vegas plans?
11 | Shall we add Doctor Who’s Ruby Sunday and Presumed Innocent’s Carolyn Polhemus to the list of characters (e.g. Colin Robinson, Jordan Catalano) who are almost never referred to by just their first name?
12 | In this week’s Presumed Innocent, did we hear Tommy (with Michael) and Rigo (with Ratzer) correctly, that Carolyn Polhemus and Bunny Davis were each killed on “June 16,” in different years? How absurd is it that Lily Rabe’s character is therapist to A) Rusty, B) Rusty and Barbara, and C) their son Kyle? And between the David E. Kelley pedigree, the casting deja vu (i.e. Noma Dumezweni), the episode-ending red herrings and the family dynamic parallels, can we all agree that Presumed Innocent is, essentially, The Undoing with less fabulous coats?
13 | Voice-to-text typo, or Blue Bloods director Tom Cavanagh being the jokester that he is? ▶
14 | As soon as you saw that Eva Longoria’s husband on Land of Women was played by James Purefoy, didn’t you kind of know that he was up to no good?
15 | If you’ve ever grumbled about The Bear‘s binge drops, how glad were you that you didn’t only get that flashback-y Season 3 premiere this week? Did the 100% humor-free premiere effectively troll anyone who has ever defended the show as being a comedy? Is it possible the fleeting “flashback” scenes with Will Poulter and Olivia Colman were proactively pre-filmed when the British actors were on last season? And given the cousins’ many raucous swearing matches, how soundproof (or not?) are the kitchen walls and door?
16 | If Criminal Minds: Evolution’s Damian could hear Voit tapping out Morse code over their speaker phone call, wouldn’t he also have been able to hear Garcia’s GPS tracker chime every few seconds?
17 | Is anyone else watching the track and field Olympic trials wondering why we haven’t figured out a better system for marking discus throws? ▼ Instead of having people seemingly risk their lives standing in an open field as heavy objects fly overhead, can’t we just, like, put a GPS tracker in those things?
18 | After watching Evil‘s Kristen vibe with Isabella this week, and Fenna the nun a few seasons back, who else is ready for a spinoff where she runs around the world hitting it off with charming, if offbeat, young women?
19 | We know CNN decided to not fact-check the presidential debate in real time, but how could the moderators let Trump’s election fraud claim — the very basis of the question it took him three tries to answer — go untouched?
20 | Who allowed Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel and Seth Meyers to all go on vacation the week of the first presidential debate?
21 | Did That ’90s Show mistake Grey’s Anatomy for ER, what with Leia and Jay suggesting that “everyone was hooking up all over the place” on the NBC medical drama?
22 | Does the Supreme Court ruling in favor of a former police officer who is seeking to throw out an obstruction charge for joining the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021, bode well for The Morning Show‘s Bradley and Hal Jackson? ▶

The people that support binge drops could not function in a world without streaming
We’ve always been here. In the olden days, many centuries ago, we taped the whole season so we could binge it at the end.
16. Yes!! my thoughts exactly with how quite they were all.
21. It felt like the mistake was intentional. on other note, NBC should definitely think of ER reboot New cast but with the same level of realistic.
21. I actually think the argument could be made for “‘hooking up all over the place” on ER (especially since the characters wouldn’t have Grey’s as a comparison) because there were ultimately quite a few relationships between the staff but not as early in the run as That ’90s Show is set.
It could have been. I don’t remember the seasons but I think Doug & Carol’s first go round was fairly early, and IIRC both she and Susan were seeing other doctors near the beginning.
As for the All American question, it was stated after Jordan asked Spencer to be the officiant, he was ordained online!
#20 – they knew they could not compete with the brilliance that is Jon Stewart.
The woman that did the flip into the pool on The Quiz With Balls is a professional wrestler. Her wrestling name is Lady Frost. She wrestles in AEW.
20. John Oliver as well, although he generally only briefly covers the week’s news. Still, leaving the field clear for Jon Stewart does feel right.
4. It was actually pretty easy to tell which twin it was. Erryck(team black) got his leg sliced.
Nope. In behind the scenes material, showrunner explained they deliberately gave both brothers the same wounds during the fight so that couldn’t be used to tell them apart. He also confirmed that Erryk was the one who the fight.
16. WIth SO much security around Elias Volt, who in the right mind would let him go the truck BY HIMSELF? that is a huge plot hole.
Or they are onto his scheme and he as well as us don’t know it yet.
9a. On The Acolyte, was anyone else hoping Jecki Lon pop some adamantium claws and try to stab and slice Qimir? Or at least have a certain healing factor?
5. Anyone can be ordained in moments online. I believe it is free and fairly common these days. Regarding Olivia and London, I think as she reconnected with LA and healed from her father’s death she became more and more okay with not moving back. Her work is primarily in the U.S, her family is in the U.S, and Spencer who she always planned on marrying was going to need to live in the U.S for his NFL career. It is also possible that post NFL they could buy a place in London and split time there or even move to London permanently if that is what they want. The bigger question is how did Olivia go from a hard hitting journalist to a full time author. I get writing her dad’s autobiography becoming the coach Billy books. But I don’t get that being the catalyst for abandoning her passion.
3 – I had a few black cloaks at 15, but I was a teen goth in the 80s. We didn’t have online shopping back then, so they must have been easily available in local markets.
#5 – All American Spencer got ordained online the day of the wedding (dumb plot point). Olivia told Spencer London is the city she loves but he is who she loves and that trumps everything. So London is not an issue
15) The bear premier was brilliant. Period.
If you didn’t get it, that’s okay. And I’m sorry about your lack of mental aptitude and patience😔
#7 How else would you pronounce mafia??? (password)
#7. MAH-fee-ah
I went back and rewatched this part of the show and he didn’t really say it weird. I’m surprised TV line even mentioned it.
He emphasizes the words all the time. To be clear, I suppose?
#20. I was wondering the same thing! The date of the debate was publicized far enough in advance that they could have planned to work that week and gone on vacation the week of July 4th. Only Jon Stewart was smart enough to have a (live!) show that night!
All American: Spencer said that he’d gotten online that morning and gotten ordained. (Yes, it’s that easy.)
17. You only worry about that with the discus? Not the shot put, hammer, or javelin? I feel like all three are more deadly than a discus and are marked the same way.
