9-1-1 Duo Previews How Buck and Eddie Will ‘Lean on Each Other’ in Season 7 — Plus, Which ‘Ship Is Sunk?
Evan Buckley and Eddie Diaz were on top of the world when 9-1-1 wrapped its sixth season on Fox, both embarking on exciting new relationships with women that seemed perfect for them. But one of those firefighters could find himself considerably less lucky in love when the procedural returns on Thursday, this time on ABC (8/7c).
Let’s start with the not-so-good news: “The Buck and Natalia situation is addressed pretty early in the first episode back,” Oliver Stark (aka Buck) tells TVLine. “We learn a little bit about the things that have gone down since we last saw them, and whether [their relationship] will be continuing moving forward.”
Meanwhile, Eddie is still all systems go in his new relationship with Marisol, which actor Ryan Guzman knows is no small feat. “Introducing a character like Marisol into an established cast is difficult,” he says. “The audience loves the cast already, and they don’t really want to see change, but [showrunner Tim Minear] has done an incredible job introducing Marisol.”
Regardless of how their respective romances play out, Eddie and Buck are “really leaning on each other” this season when it comes to Eddie’s son Christopher, who’s now old enough to experience girl trouble of his own.
“Looking back at his dating history, Eddie doesn’t know if he can offer much advice to Christopher, so he’s going to be doing some outsourcing — and the closest person he can think of is Buck,” Guzman teases. “It’s kind of a reach, since Buck’s past hasn’t been that great either, so it’s a little like the blind leading the blind. Hen would be the smart choice, but Eddie doesn’t always make the smart choice.”
Stark would beg to differ, calling Buck a “really nice bridge between Eddie and Christopher. He can have these honest talks that are sometimes difficult to have with your real father. So Buck is perfectly positioned to be there and to offer some advice. … Eddie can’t be good cop and bad cop, so Buck has to take on the good cop role because he’s more fun. He’s the nice one.”

Just make that giggling twit go away. When Eddie calls her right away she slams him for his intro on the phone. Write someone with half a brain and then find someone who can actually act to play the part. Thats why we hate seeing these worthless women show up out of nowhere taking up airtime. Birdbrain would be a compliment to the character & the actress. Hopefully the Death Doula is gone for good. Just too weird for a bright guy like Buck. Nobody needs a couch that bad!

Tim Minear has done an incredible job introducing Marisol.” It would ONLY be incredible if he wrote the hardware store flirtation as a transphobic woman (like the actress happens to be in real life) so that Eddie could get rid of her immediately. I won‘t watch any scenes with her. She is by far the most untalented actress that ever joined this show and she basically only has one facial expression. I am going to skip this i won‘t have it in me to endure this, i‘m sorry Ryan.
I read that Natalia would not be returning, the actress evidently has other work in NY. She was very pretty but the character didn’t have much going on. I personally found Marisol the worse option, poor acting and apparently posted transphobic jokes on her social media. I’m surprise they are keeping her!
i’m normally pretty realistic when it comes to buddie, because as much as i love them, it’s been clear these past few seasons that fox and kristen reidel had no intention to take them anywhere past a friendship.
but something feels different here for this new season… the interviews, all the things ryan has been telling us (and he’s been telling us A LOT re: buddie), the promotion abc’s been doing..
i don’t quite know what to make of it.
I think that Tim Minear recognized that Buck and Eddie’s relationship was severely neglected (to the point where it harmed not only the characters but the show) over the past two seasons. Now that he’s reclaimed the showrunner position, he seems to be ensuring that their relationship is again featured prominently. The actors clearly enjoy working with each other, but I feel like they’re emphasizing the platonic nature of Buck and Eddie’s relationship even while acknowledging its closeness. I think fans are getting caught up in the vague answers about Buck’s storyline, which has been rumored to involve some type of sexuality exploration. Alas, these rumors apparently started on Tumblr, which always predicts stories like that and is always wrong – it would be hilarious if this was the one time they were right 🤣

I HOPE they FINALLY give us what we have been asking for which is Buddie!
I just love them! All their scenes are fun to watch because Buck tries his best, Eddie doesn’t have a clue and Christopher trusts them completely. It doesn’t matter if they are the victims of a tsunami, the AI or, in this case, their love lives.
The way these two are co-parenting and embody exactly what the other needs in a relationship but we’re still wasting time with another cycle of no-talent actresses who offer nothing to the story and whose main defining feature is “female” because that’s the only thing that matters, is going to be my villain origin story. I’m so glad Tim is back at the helm because we will at least better emergencies and pacing and full cast focus, but I doubt he can do anything to salvage Marisol’s character. And with a transphobic actress, I’d rather her be gone as soon as possible. It’s ridiculous that we’re still having to beat around the Buddie bush when in 5 seasons they haven’t managed to bring on anyone who even holds a candle to the relationship and family they have built together.
Then again, no one has gotten close enough for it to be a choice. Christopher’s mom died before Buck got the role, no relationship has been serious enough to demand the co-parent role back from Buck. They act as if they don’t know the situation isn’t supposed to be permanent, so they can’t be afraid one day they may not be a co-parents anymore.
I love it! We’re gonna have the Buckley-Han family and the Buckley-Diaz family. Season 7 is looking great!

I love this show. Especially Angela Bassett and Christopher and Eddie and Buck…. The entire cast. They really mesh. Great casting.
My wish is that Buck and Eddie would finally realize that they belong together, and not just as best friends. I mean, c’mon!!! Could it be any more obvious. Writers of the show, get it done already!

WTF are you even talking about? That’s not absolutely not what he said and who cares if it was? Your angry reaction speaking volumes about the kind of person that you are.(Your post makes almost no sense so it was a challenge, in and of itself, to interpret whatever language you are speaking.
And who cares if he’s rooting for Buck and Eddie to be together. We all watch shows, get attached to certain characters and ship different characters. You probably are the kind of person who complains only about the gay shippers.
Glad the show is back at last, wasn’t impressed with Marisol either but the relationship of Buck and Eddie is *platonic* and there is nothing wrong with that, in fact it strengthens the show I feel by showing their bond and how they look after Christopher.
It’s just spoiled by the people demanding the characters become a gay couple despite there being zero evidence of either character being so.
The Poseidon Adventure opener should be a corker.

Get rid of Buck! He is an idiot.
The only thing good about him was Taylor Kelly and they let her go. The story line about the sinking cruise ship is really really stupid! 911 would not ever be the number to call and cruise ships don’t go down during a normal cruise. And why can’t Bobby and Athena ever have at least one go trip. I can not watch this show anymore it has gotten so stupid!

I to love the cast as is. I am a “Buck” and Eddie die hard fan, I honestly hope they just keeps dating. As for Bobby and Athena, she needs to let Bobby in more and stop always trying to be both the man and the woman in the relationship. I love “Chimney” and Maddie’s relationship they are good together as well as “Hen” and Karen. I have looked at all 6 seasons of 9-1-1 on Hulu 3 times and I am glad that they came back for season 7. I hope there will be more seasons to come.

seeing as how eddie has been brought up a certain way with his believe like with the nun thing now, it would have been ”nice” to see him actually be shocked by Buck being gay and actually have some drama and tears over that.
