It was an eventful episode for Ghosts‘ Pete last week, which revealed that the former travel agent’s power lets him leave the Woodstone premises. And this Thursday’s Season 3 finale (airing at 8:30/7:30c on CBS) finds Pete taking advantage of his special ability to visit his daughter and grandson as they vacation in St. Lucia. But it’s not just a family reunion that awaits the troop leader.
“We get to see a whole new side of Pete in this finale in terms of his personal relationships. Pete has a new love interest in the finale,” his portrayer Richie Moriarty reveals to TVLine.
Now that Pete can venture from his familiar stomping grounds, “all of a sudden, the dating pool has grown enormously from just the ghosts [at] Woodstone to the ghosts anywhere. It’s exciting,” Moriarty enthuses.
Enter Upload scene-stealer Allegra Edwards, who plays a ghost with whom Pete connects during his trip to the Caribbean. A dead ringer for Pete’s celebrity crush Loni Anderson, Donna died in the ’80s, when on vacation she was hit by a very heavy eighties cell phone that someone accidentally dropped out a window, per the official character description.
As Pete finds someone new who’s interested in him, too, he’s able to get closure on his relationship with his former wife Carol (who reappears in the finale) and might even “potentially” move on from his crush on Alberta, Moriarty says.
“What he’s doing, I think, is, for the first time, really exploring not only what this new ghost power will mean for future relationships, but what he wants in a potential new relationship,” Moriarty previews. “He’s finally been able to put things to bed with Carol — no pun intended — but he’s been able to kind of give that the finality that it needed and really confront her about the betrayal when they were alive. And now that he’s been able to address that, personally, with her, he’s able to kind of move on, and I think we’re going to see a big new chapter tease for him in this finale, and it’s going to mean a lot of exciting new possibilities moving forward.”
However, as Moriarty told us last week, although the world seems wide open to Pete right now, he will discover in the season ender that there is “a limitation on the power so that it can’t be used constantly.”
Ghosts fans, are you excited for Pete to get a new lady love? Hit the comments!
I am really hoping the limitation on his power keeps him at Woodstone a majority of the time. It’s not Ghosts without Pete.
This is about longevity for the show. We’ve seen already that rotating hotel guests don’t help the plots. There isn’t enough time to establish a guest star and service all the regular characters. Letting Pete leave the grounds will be very helpful with future season plots.
.
This is a big hit for CBS. If it runs for, say, 150 eps, everyone involved will make more money than they ever thought possible. But the limits of the Ghosts, and Jay not being able to see the ghosts (which, as many predicted, is starting to get old), places hard edges to how far the stories can progress.
.
Be the end of this year, they’ll have produced more eps than the entire run of the UK original. They are running out of plotlines if they don’t innovate. Pete being able to leave, and maybe letting his fellow ghosts leave if they touch him, opens up some fun possibilities.
.
But they’ll primarily use it for trips around the town, not long trips. In a cost saving way of thinking, it will also allow them to send 1 or more ghosts on trips OFF SCREEN to cut down on how many storylines need to be serviced each week.
.
Side note, I hope they tone down the crush Pete had. It was a little creepy as written.
I’m glad for Pete to be able to live a little. I’m also glad there are limitations to his power, as I don’t want to lose him. He’s never been my favorite, but he’s been especially funny to me this season with his reactions to Ghost Carol (exa: Meow meow Jaws’ theme). Looking forward to Thursday’s episode.
I’m suspecting that perhaps the limitation might either severely weaken Pete the longer he’s away from Woodstone, and/or essentially “dissipate” him the longer he’s away.
I was thinking that, since he was a travel agent involved with vacations, and he can now travel, his time away is limited due to vacation time actual. Since he hasn’t left the property since he died, he can be gone a bit longer (accrued more vacation time). But as he uses his power, he eats into his accrued time. Eventually, he’ll only get two weeks a year.
I had the same thoughts.
Yay Pete! The 2 Joe’s know just what we want to see next!
Love, love, love this show! Great writing & cast!
Get rid of this horrible show
I’m sure I speak for everyone here when I tell you how sorry we all are that someone is putting a gun to your head and forcing you to watch it. You will be in our thoughts and prayers always.
Which ghost hurt you Karen?
Let’s hope when you become a ghost, you’ll be “Going down on us” (Season 1 Episode 13’s “The Vault”) This is, of course, the opposite of going to Heaven. When we meet Elias Woodstone (Matt Walsh), the robber baron husband of Hetty (Rebecca Wisocky), who had been trapped in a vault (whose walls are impenetrable for ghosts) after starving to death, he was eventually sent to Hell when he made it clear that he would never be redeemed. When it happened, the others all noted that he was “going down on us.”
Is there a way, maybe, that you could make yourself stop watching so you aren’t so bothered by ‘this horrible show’? I’ve never understood the concept of hate watching – surely you have something else to watch to put you out of your misery. Habits CAN be broken and you can be free!!
I’m glad Pete will meet someone. If she could cross her boundaries and come to Pete, that would be great. Will he have to travel back and forth to see her?
The new girl ghost 👻 looks really cute 💕. Pete seems like a lucky guy !
Ghosts is an amazing show but please get rid of the Carol character. So annoying.
I am guessing Carol will get s**** off after Pete confronts her about her cheating in the finale as mentioned in the article. He probably forgives her and off she will go.
The only thing I wish they had done was have Jerry come to Woodstone to see where Carol died. With Pete and Carol both seeing him again and neither able to interact with him but forced to interact with each other ….. It would have been fun to have him there and use that as the catalyst for Pete to confront Carol about the cheating. But yes, after that she could go. I do wish though they’d use Crash more; he can keep his head on so it’s not a special effects cost. He’s fun and other than popping up in the first episode to say Stephanie is still asleep in the attic he is never seen and given nothing to do.
Thank god pete comes back so soon. I was so upset because i was thinking that he wouldnt be thre for isack and nigals wedding, and that just felt cruelly out of character for him. And the show wouldnt feel right without him there very often either.
Yes..love this show…sense of humor!
I think the limitation to Pete’s power is that he can only visit each location once. This would set up a cliffhanger if he meets a woman on vacation and wants to be with her. He could choose to stay with her and see where things go, but if he were to return to the manor he would never be able to see her again. That would set up the future prospect that Pete could at some point leave and not return which would add a level of suspense to each of his vacations moving forward.
