Jared Padalecki Talks Boys Role (‘Just Let Me Know If I Have to Get Naked’) and How It’d Be a Supernatural Reunion
Jared Padalecki is hoping that if he visits The Boys, he’ll get to keep his clothes on.
Supernatural creator and The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke has been vocal about his desire to get his former leading man on the Prime Video drama, calling Padalecki “the Pokémon I haven’t collected yet.” Thus far, Jensen Ackles, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Jim Beaver, Rob Benedict and Christian Keyes are among the Supernatural vets to pop up on the comic book series, while Alexander Calvert recurred on the spinoff Gen V.
Bringing Padalecki onto the show is a matter of “finding the right role. Look, I want to. I mean, even if it’s just for a guest shot,” Kripke told TVLine.
But with the announcement that there’s only one season left after this current fourth one, have there been any recent conversations between Kripke and Padalecki about how to make that guest spot a reality before time runs out?
“We talked a little bit recently. I mean, we talked today,” Padalecki told TVLine on Friday.
A month ago, Kripke called the actor following the cancellation of his CW series Walker, which will come to an end with this Wednesday’s episode.
“He’s like, ‘Hey, dude, a) so sorry about Walker. I know how much you loved it and great show. Would you be interested in coming to play up in Toronto [where The Boys shoots]?'” Padalecki recalls. “I was like, ‘Absolutely. Just let me know if I have to get naked or not because I gotta start working out now.'”
Despite the potentially urgent need to get into the gym, Padalecki notes that the role is still a ways off from actual production.
“He and I have talked about what it could look like. It’s not written yet. He said it wouldn’t really be until 2025. We wouldn’t shoot until probably January-ish,” Padalecki shares, adding that he’s game to “go play in the playground [of] the guy who created Sam Winchester. I’ve had good times in his playground, so I’m happy to do it again.”
As for what kind of character he’d like to portray, Padalecki has his sights set on a villainous supe, with “the power of wearing clothes,” he says with a laugh. “No, I don’t know. You know what’s funny is that, yeah, I have some ideas, but to Kripke’s credit, all my ideas for his time on Supernatural paled in comparison to what he came up with. So I wouldn’t even want to put anything in his head. I just want him and his f–ked up mind to think of something cool for me to come and do, and it’s going to be better than anything I could have dreamed up. The way his brain works is wildly interesting and outside of the box… So I’ll just go with what he creates.”
Of course, if Padalecki comes on The Boys, there is potential to have him in a scene with his Supernatural co-stars Ackles and Morgan, who play baddie supe Soldier Boy and CIA officer Joe Kessler, respectively.
“Let me just say that’s not the first time I’ve had a conversation where that has been pontificated. But yeah, that would be a lot of fun,” Padalecki says, before jokingly adding that all three characters would be naked for the reunion.
Well, Kripke does have a habit of putting Supernatural alums in nude scenes…

He wasn’t keen on The Boys before because he felt he was morally superior to a show like that. But now that Walker is cancelled and he is unemployed he is okay doing it now.embarrassing! And needs to stop riding on his co-stars coat tails and find his own way.

I’ve never heard Jared disparage ‘TB’. I do have to agree his acting skills aren’t on the same level as 99% of the other Boys actors. He’s good, but he’s no Antony, Jensen, or Karl.

He was EQUAL partner on Supernatural.
His show lasted for 4 seasons. He didn’t have any of his Supernatural co-stars on, except Colin Ford for a few episodes.
He did the Friday The 13th film, again, no former co-stars.
He might be unemployed, but, I’m sure he will be okay. Both Jensen and Jared keep doing those very lucrative fan conventions.
He’s done fine on his own.

It’s probably a bit part where he gets 50 seconds of screen time before being wasted by a supe. No way Kripke is just handing him a major role when Jensen had to audition and win Amazon over.
Wow! Very cool! I would love to see him on The Boys… especially if he gets to play a villain. His work on SPN as Lucifer and Gadreel was second-to-none.
Pay no attention to the haters… the majority of regular fans would love to see this, (just check out the responses on Twitter), especially if there’s an SPN reunion!
Jensen Ackles has always had large portion of haters, which grew with the introduction of Misha Collins and the Destielers.
Jared’s acting skills are OKAY.
He’s certainly not on the same level as Jensen. But he is better than when he was on GG.
I’m surprised that he’s doing this show, considering it’s so against the brand viewers expect from him. It’s certainly not family friendly or in any way optimistic about individuals winning if they try hard enough.
Understand, it’s not that I think the show is without value. Dark and seedy looking at the worst side of who people are can have merit, I guess. Teach people who are like that a lesson.
I just never thought when I did a search for this particular actor, that’s the choice I’d find on his credit list. And it’s not really something I want or need myself, so I feel a loss in this choice.
S, I appreciate you for sharing this. I think I get your dilemma. The Boys is not as immoral as it seems at first glance. You might even be surprised by what the show is about. It may be that those who try hard aren’t guaranteed to win, but it’s about not giving up despite the odds. Not because victory is guaranteed, but because it’s the right thing to do.
Btw my favorite show is When Calls the Heart by Hallmark 🥰 and I could really do without all the gore in The Boys but I appreciate clever writing, especially season 3 is amazing!

This is probably exactly why he should do it then.The guy is an actor. He shouldn’t be type casted or only allowed to play a certain kind of character. He should play different kinds of roles. As someone already pointed out, he played Lucifer and Gadreel on Supernatural. I mean Supernatural itself wasn’t exactly
family friendly. It had monsters and creatures and just about every episode had violence and gore on it so I’m not sure what you’re talking about here.

Of course, I wanna see him in another Kripke’s show, I think he’s the only main Kripke’s actor who’s not yet reused somewhere, but I’ll see him better in Genv, perhaps a role of a teacher with a terrifying double personality, I think there’s more possibility to have time on screen there 😉
I’ve only watched the pilot episode of The Boys and it was a little too gleefully violent for my tastes. But if they let Jared and Jensen play together again? You better believe I’m in for the whole season! Let’s make this happen!
I don’t watch The Boys, but I definitely will tune in for Jared Padalecki. The man can play any role given to perfection, clothed or unclothed.

I would absolutely live to see Jared Padalecki on The Boys Season five. It would be so awesome to see a epic reunion between him and Ackles. I am still devastated that “Walker” ends tonight. The cast and crew DID NOT DESEVE it to end.
