The Idea of You has broken streaming records for Prime Video, launched the fictional boy band August Moon onto the Billboard charts and cemented star Nicholas Galitzine as Hollywood’s Next Big Thing.
“That [movie] has done the most incredible numbers,” Galitzine tells TVLine, no doubt referring to the fact that the film garnered nearly 50 million worldwide viewers in the first two weeks after its May 2 premiere, making it Amazon MGM’s No. 1 romantic-comedy debut of all time, according to the streamer.
“I’d say that movie, more than anything I’ve done, I feel like people from every single demographic have come up to me on the street — and people I’m a huge fan of — saying how much they were a fan of it,” Galitzine shares.
But will the success of the romantic dramedy, which stars Anne Hathaway as a 40-year-old single mother who falls for a pop star (played by Galitzine), lead to a sequel? At the close of the movie, Hathaway’s Solène and Galitzine’s Hayes come face-to-face five years after their heartbreaking breakup, her tearful smile suggesting that maybe their love story isn’t over yet. (Find out how the movie ending differs from Robinne Lee’s book.)
“I think Annie has also spoken to this. We leave it in such a certainly uncertain place, and so, I think it’s great how we’ve left it,” Galitzine says.
That said, “Annie and I are definitely up for working together again, and so I’m sure we’ll find something,” he adds.
One Galitzine movie that is definitely getting a follow-up is the 2023 Prime Video romantic comedy Red, White & Royal Blue, which was based on Casey McQuiston’s bestselling novel about the forbidden enemies-to-lovers romance between Prince Henry of Wales (Galitzine) and Alex Claremont-Diaz (The Kissing Booth 2′s Taylor Zakhar Perez), the First Son of the female president of the United States. Earlier this month, Amazon MGM Studios announced that it greenlit a sequel to the breakout hit, with Galitzine and Perez set to return. Matthew López, who co-wrote and directed the first film, will return to write the sequel alongside McQuiston.
Asked about his hopes for the next installment in Henry and Alex’s love story, Galitzine notes, “It’s a tricky one. I think that it’s so far off, actually, in a lot of ways because I’m busy for at least the next year.” (A week and a half after this interview, it was announced that Galitzine will star as He-Man in a Masters of the Universe movie for Amazon MGM, which will be released in theaters on June 5, 2026.)
“I can’t wait to see what Casey and Matthew both come up with,” Galitzine says. “With any character, you want to see a semblance of growth, really.”
At the end of the first movie, Henry and Alex went public with their relationship after their emails to each other were hacked and posted online. Although the couple got their happy ending, it’s just the beginning of their romance and the door is open for potential new challenges.
“We have to find these characters at a different point in their lives and mature, but there always has to be a really interesting point of conflict,” Galitzine continues. “I think that’s something I look for in every one of my characters. So we wait and see what they come up with.”
Are you hoping for an Idea of You sequel? And what’s on your wish list for Red, White & Royal Blue 2?
No. Nobody wants a sequel to such an awful and cringe af movie and just because it’s demographic audience is bigger it doesn’t mean it’s a better project than the ones you did before Nicholas, I suggest you found a little more of self awareness and humility that seems you lack off very often.
he didn’t say it was better holy crap unclench wtf
I’m thrilled (and still somewhat shocked) that we’re getting RWRB2. I’d be happy for the movie to follow Henry’s bonus chapter from the collectors edition of the book — “falling in love, the sequel” — and there’s still a lot of content to mine with Henry’s family (will we ever see his mom?) and Alex’s legal/political career. Regardless, I trust Casey and Matthew to write a satisfying continuation of the story.
tho anne is hot i pass on this one
Mmm, haven’t seen this one and didn’t finish RWRB but I like Mary & George and I don’t know what to think about him as He-Man, maybe ’cause I know nothing about that fandom besides the excellent She-Ra show that streamed some years back…
She-Ra on Netflix was very good.
I kinda wish that was what they were doing live action now, not least to get more attention to the animated show. But I guess they gotta do the dude one for…some reason.

Yes!!! Sequel!! We need more happy endings today.
I think any characters you may want to see again, you’d rather them be left where it ends than have the sequel be crappy. I’m glad to hear they’ll be able to take their time with RWRB2. I would think it would be the same with the Idea of you since he’s pretty busy.
Would love to see a sequel of The Idea of You!
