Walker EP Previews Season 4’s ‘Major’ Jackal Arc, Cordell’s New Struggle — Plus, Watch Premiere Sneak Peek (Exclusive)
The Jackal’s ominous serial killer presence will very much be felt during Walker Season 4, premiering Wednesday, April 3, at 8/7c on The CW.
As viewers learned in the Season 3 finale, the criminal consumed Cordell and Captain James in the past, so much so that the latter’s marriage was torn apart by the unsolved case. With the revelation that the Jackal may have killed again, that mystery “is going to be a major arc this season,” showrunner Anna Fricke tells TVLine. But rather than delve into the killer, the storyline is “more about how is it going to affect our team.”
“It causes a lot of tension for Captain James, and so, what is that dynamic going to be? That’s really a major thing that we’re teeing up,” Fricke previews.
“That’s what we’re really digging into, because we really like to do cases that are personal to our characters,” Fricke continues, “and we really wanted to have kind of a Captain James season and get into that and see a side of him we hadn’t before.”
James is now remarried to the same woman he lost as a result of the Jackal, but it’s not just the captain who will be feeling the Jackal’s resurfaced shadow and the effects of that tension on his romantic relationship.
“What does it mean for Walker to be pulled back into this case just as he’s sort of finally, officially starting things with Geri?” Fricke posits. “This show is always very much about his work-life balance. It’s always been something he’s struggled with… That’s his arc of the season, really: Can he find that balance?”
Plus, with Stella out of the house at college and Auggie about to graduate, the titular Texas Ranger is “facing an empty nest for the first time. How is that going to affect how he approaches things in his work life and in his love life?” Fricke adds.
