When Will Trent leading man Ramón Rodríguez visited TVLine’s New York City offices late last month, he warned that Season 2 would end on “a bit” of a cliffhanger: “There are some things that [Will] gains, which is great, and there are some things that he loses, which is not great.”
Suffice it to say, our curiosity was piqued when we caught up with his costars at ABC’s Upfront earlier this week. We asked each of them how viewers would feel when they reach the climax of Tuesday’s finale — aka the last new episode until 2025 — and with each passing answer, we were more intrigued.
Jake McLaughlin, who embodies Detective Michael Ormewood, told us that audiences will be left “wanting more,” while Iantha Richardson, who plays Special Agent Trent’s partner-in-crime solving Faith Mitchell, cautioned that viewers will be “feeling sadness, they’ll be feeling empathy, they’ll be feeling nostalgia.”
Then came Angie Polaski herself, Erika Christensen, who suggested that there would be both “shock” and “despair.” She then turned around and said this: “I know some fans might actually be feeling vindication or elation. I think it’s going to be a pretty polarizing episode.”
What else did the above-mentioned trio, along with fellow co-star Sonja Sohn (who plays GBI Deputy Director Amanda Wagner), dish to TVLine about Will Trent’s Season 2 finale? Keep scrolling to find out….
ANGIE’S ROAD TO RECOVERY… AND RELAPSE? | Officer Polaski took a nasty fall in Episode 9 but she didn’t resort to painkillers. “She’s been doing really well with her sobriety for a while, and I think it has shown to be so productive,” Christensen tells TVLine. Additionally, Will and Angie’s relationship is finally “going right and settling into this calm, sort of grown-up space. Certainly she wouldn’t want to mess that up. Something else might do that for her.”
LOVE CONNECTIONS… AND DISCONNECTIONS? | Faith’s S.O. Luke (played by recurring guest star will resurface in the finale and “you will see him be a great boyfriend,” Richardson emphasizes. “He will be needed, and you know Faith doesn’t normally need people, so it’ll be a big deal.”
Viewers will also receive an update on Ormewood’s wife Gina, who left her family and checked herself into a wellness center early in Season 2. “I think you’ll find out a little bit what’s going on with the ol’ wifey-poo,” McLaughlin teases. Asked if what we learn will surprise us, McLaughlin plays coy: “Yes,” he answers. “But I can’t tell you why.”
AN UNEXPECTED PROPOSITION | We know heading into the episode that Amanda has an “unexpected proposition” for Angie. But what does mean, exactly? “Let’s just say Amanda will start to see, at the end of Season 2, Angie’s effort to make a shift in her life… and also on the job,” Sohn teases. “She’s consistent for once.” Adds Christensen: “Angie is learning to view herself in a more positive light. When that’s reflected from an exterior viewpoint, that’s really helpful.” —With reporting by Matt Webb Mitovich
Will Trent’s Season 2 finale airs Tuesday, May 21 at 8/7c (and streams next day on Hulu). Season 3, which will consist of 18 uninterrupted episodes, will follow in 2025.
Betty had better be around for season 3!!!
I think she’s the cast member least likely to leave and that includes Ramon Rodriguez/Will.
I didn’t read the books but I’m enjoying the writing of will and Angie processing relationship. I don’t like Faith boyfriend, I want to see more of just her after Jermey moved out.
Anybody else think that Angie’s little friend (can’t remember her name) is the one killing the p3dos?
Me!
Putting in my guess now that the serial killer is either Crystal or her mother and Will catching them leads to a rift between him and Angie.
That is my guess too. Crystal killed her pedo stepfather, got away with it and now probably feels a little empowered. I think Erika’s “vindication” line comes from that and might be a also hint to where they might be moving Angie’s character closer to book Angie.
Not fond of Crystal so I’m hoping it’s her. Everyone else needs to remain. Faith’s mom and Jeremy’s father should also shop up more. This cast is stellar.
Non of the characters better die! Please and I mean even the supporting cast.
Ormewood is a really bad guy in the 1st Will Trent book. If they follow the book, it will be a real shocker since he hasn’t been portrayed that way in the series. But I wouldn’t be surprised if they move his character more to the character in the novel.
Yes! I keep waiting for him to turn bad. The only truly shocking thing I can think is that maybe he killed his wife?
Love the show. A lot of everything rolled into one. Drama, funny and a little romance rolled into one. All actors are great and storylines are good! Let’s not forget the adorable BETTY! She is my favorite actress! Keep this show going well as is.
My wish is that someone had mentioned the delays and unexpected happinings prior my watching it
.its obvious that u have no respect for the viewers.. Im done .
Betty better not die. I love this show!
The season finale leaves us wandering what is going to happen to all actors. Very interesting and cliff hanger end! Let’s don’t forget about our precious BETTY. Nice to see Wills vision for the future but the death of Betty was very heartbreaking and sad. Can’t wait for 2025 new season with adventures.
Just a note, in the paragraph about Faith’s s.o. Luke, it looks like you set yourself up to put the name of the actor who plays him, but then forgot to fill it in… in case you want to go back and do that. No big deal, just looks weird :)
