Yellowstone’s Kelly Reilly is quick to insist that she doesn’t know what the back half of Season 5 holds in store for Beth Dutton. “I mean, I know the ending of the show, which I’ve known for six years,” she tells TVLine. “We all knew what the ending would be. We’re going to film that this summer.”
However, the way that Beth’s storyline wraps up on the Paramount Network hit remains a mystery, even to her portrayer. “But what would I hope for her?” Reilly muses. “Peace, I think.”
Given the fact that her character tends to tear through life like a bull in a china shop, does she really think that that’s possible? “As possible as it is for any of us,” she says. “Peace requires some digging and some surrender and letting go of old pains and hurts.
“I certainly believe that she can find that,” she continues. “Whether or not that’s possible, I don’t know. She’s such a warrior, isn’t she? Her reason to be is to protect. Her reason to be is to fight. But I’d like to see that for her.”
Perhaps in the series’ last episodes, Beth will finally show up for herself with the same ferocity that she always has her beloved father. “Yeah!” Reilly says. Although “I question potentially whether happiness is allowed. Over the seasons, we’ve been able to see where it might exist. But she’s taken out of it so quickly. Maybe there’s a future where she’s not sort of yanked out of her happiness.”
Yellowstone Season 5 resumes on Paramount Network in November (with a spinoff to follow). In the meantime, you can catch Reilly in a very different role in Paramount+’s beautifully messy coming-of-age film Little Wing (now streaming).
I want Beth dead. Brutally killed. One of the most despicable characters I’ve sever seen on TV. People who call Beth a great woman are sick in the head. Jamie should be the one killing her off. Too bad he’s getting the ax this season. Sheridan loves Beth too much sadly.
I am so glad that I’m not alone with these feelings. As much as I love the actress and as much as I love Cole Houser, both Rip and Beth should either be in prison or dead. Plus for all those Kevin Costner haters, he’s the only reason anyone tuned into Yellowstone.
Pulls up a chair and sits next to you! I hate her.
I’m the Devil, and even I think Beth goes too far at times, but you really think Jamie is any better?
Let’s face it, all of the Duttons are going to end up here in Hell eventually. I just don’t want them all showing up at the same time! That’s too much of an infernal headache for me to handle.
Nearly every single main character in that show are grade a dbags. None of them deserve happiness. All the crap they’ve done, they should be thrown in jail or off their little cliff. Anyone who thinks that is a way to live in real life or thinks they’re so cute or whatever needs to seek help.
A truly happy ending would be Kevin Costner admitting that his ego got the better of him and he walks away from his Horizon boondoggle and returns to Yellowstone to give viewers several more years of episodes. But, that’s not going to happen.
YEESSSS! WHY must We suffer because the director and main character Clash! Tell Kevin to accept HALF his PAY and get on with it! This is Heartbreaking that they are ALL not there in the End!! 💔🤕
I would love for Beth to finally have peace, so she can live happily with Rip. Beth and Rip are the only reason I watch Yellowstone.
I don’t want peace for her. I hope that Wes’ prediction comes to fruition and Jamie kills Beth when she tries to take his son or tries to kill him first. She had some iconic moments and memorable lines but mostly she’s a jealous, classless, obnoxious waste of skin. What Rip sees in her I’ll never know.
I want and hope Kevin Costner plays out his role as the matriarch on the last of Yellowstone he’s awesome n Noone can play his part like him
Beth has never wanted inner peace, that’s why she’ll never have it. Jamie was a scared kid who made an impossible decision. Tragic result for Beth, but not something to wallow in hatred and self pity for the rest of her life over.
I probably won’t even watch the 2nd half of the final season. Too many loose ends to tie up in five or six episodes. What happens with the show horse investments? What about the shot wolves problem? 1/2 the ranch hands are in Texas with the herd for a year, how does that develop? What happens with Summer, does she finish her commuted sentence at the ranch and go back to where she came from? Do the Duttons lose the ranch or find a way to save it for Tate? Does Jamie have John killed, or does he come to his senses and turn on that Market Equities woman? And what about Tom Rainwater? What happens to the Reservation if he loses his position?
They need 2 more full seasons to get 1/2 of that resolved. This is going to end worse than Better Call Saul
Excellent points. They can solve for some of it with a time jump of one year. The herd and entire crew would be back and they can mention that John was impeached and later passed away. Heck they can even open with the family at his fresh grave. Rewrites were already necessary due to KC not returning. Plus Paramount is firmly behind the show so they would likely approve longer episodes. That’s what happened for Cobra Kai’s final season. The episodes are much longer.
Well that’s easy, most endings are worse than Better Call Saul, because it had a pretty great one!
Sheridan is a complete A hole , screw covid, screw writers strike, it don’t take 3 fricken years to finish a series !!!! 1923 is the best of all and after screwing around for 2 years rumour has it they finally started shooting part 2 !!!! He needs to stick to 1 YEAR projects 1883 was great !!! Costner new he was an ass, just as he is also an ass , but a damn fine actor, Sheridan on the other hand should stay the hell away from in front of the camera !!! Sucked in to really great TV and then GIT jersey around!!!!!
Beth is the worst of all woman wrapped up in one, all the scary things we think and would love to have permission to do. She’s rebellious and independent and says things we think out loud. She is the shock that is the compliment to Johns soft side if that makes sense. Even when they showed her mother when alive she had that sharp axis to her personality. No matter what happens true to form the ending will be devastating but left with hope. I think they will all perish Kasey will be left with his wife and son and Carter will be Rip in the Ranches chance to start over. The land will go back to the original family it belonged to ( albeit the Duttons were very good Land protectors) it will probably be Jamie will kill John, Beth will be killed by Jamie and Rip & Jamie will end up killing each other. Rainwater will end up being the Narrator and will point out how ironic that a child with parents from both sides is the load heir and this will restore his as the leader of his Res
I seriously prayed Yellowstone wouldn’t lose Kevin. I’m hoping it will stay as suspenseful and edge of chair waiting if and when it continues.
How can you have an ending without Dutton, the star of the whole series. Please just bring him back and end all this nonsense! Give us the very best ending for the best series on TV. How about it?
I love Beth and I love RIP it’s a damn show for crying out loud it’s the BEST SHOW EVER.I love it.
