Yellowstone’s combative Duttons went from merely plotting to funeral-plotting in the Paramount Network hit’s winter finale. But as Jamie, John and Beth contemplate hacking off branches of their family tree, the relative who’ll decide the ultimate victor in their murderous free-for-all could wind up being the one that none of them are even considering: Kayce.
Since John’s youngest child is the Dutton to whom adopted brother Jamie is closest — hell, the only one to whom he’s speaking, really — he could be a valuable ally. But “it’s a tricky one with Kayce,” Wes Bentley tells TVLine. “At this point, Jamie is seeing who is a piece in the game and who can be used. He’s trying to survive now. Kayce’s not going to provide [cover], and he’s not necessarily a person Jamie can use to gain what he needs to gain.
“So I think he has hopes that Kayce’s not in the middle by the end of all of it,” he continues, “and that somehow he’s clear of it.”
But if Kayce isn’t an asset to Jamie… uh-oh. Yup, “Kayce could also be a challenge to Jamie’s desire to be the one who has the ranch for his son,” Bentley admits. During Jamie and Beth’s last confrontation, “he does say that [nephew] Tate is someone he’s looking out for, too, so there is the suggestion that he is considering them. But who knows if that’s a game Jamie is playing or if he still sees Kayce and Tate as a part of his life?”
Should Jamie’s concern with Kayce only be keeping him out of his way, when the series returns this summer, he might wind up having to follow in biodad Garrett’s footsteps and order a hit on him, too. Jamie’s “icing up,” says Bentley. “The emotions are getting out of it. It’s becoming, ‘What’s logical for my survival?’ and what can he get for his son.”
What do you think? Will Kayce be able to stay out of the fray? And who do you think will still be standing when all those murder plots are, ahem, executed?
Jamie will end up being iced by Beth. Kacey will end up with the Yellowstone and giving back land to the Indians. Beth and Rip will retire to Texas and and the hands will end up at the four sixes
Sounds about right.
I think Market Equities will have Jamie killed and Beth framed for it. It would not be hard to do.
I think the woman directing Jamie will be killed in his bed while Jamie sleeps. And DNA of murder is his.
Love the show! All the parts are so well played. Beth especially is such a piece of work, it’s just beautiful!
Anyone remember the last episode of 1883, James was talking to the Lacoda Chief that tried to help Elsa about where to settle. The Chief told him about the valley and he could have it, but in 7 generations, he would have to give it back. Is Tate Dutton the 7th generation, he is half Lacoda indian. It would settle a lot of problems for the Duttons.
In the beginning I was rooting for Jamie. I really was. This season? Nah! He’s done too much.
The most chilling dialog I heard John Dutton say was, ” I miss one kid. I pity one kid. I reject one. But Beth I envy her.” Wow! WOW! That says a whole lot right there
There are too many characters and too many loose ends. I love the show but the characters aren’t as developed as they should be.
Kayce, Monica and Tate will be left standing and turn the land back to the tribe because of all the damage done to the family by trying to keep the land. They will choose relationship/love over legacy.
They’ll all be killed and the ranch will be taken over by Bran.
I think there will be a few deaths in the family (not sure which probably Jaime and John) but ultimately the land will be donated as used as a national park with Kaycee overseeing it. Beth and Rip will retire to Texas after adopting Carter and live happily ever after joining Jimmy.
