Why Tommy?
We’ll start with the question on everyone’s mind: Of all the men in Los Angeles, how did Tommy find himself in the unique (not to mention enviable) position of becoming Buck’s first bisexual experience?
Following the “merry-go-round of different love interests we’ve had for Buck,” Minear felt that his storyline “needed a good smack to give it some new life.” So when Tommy came back into the picture, following Lucy’s unavailability to fly into the hurricane, Minear found himself struck with the idea. (“That’s when it occurred to me!”) From there, the idea evolved organically.
“I felt like the chemistry would be strong between Buck and Tommy,” Minear says. “Lou hasn’t been in a ton of the show. He was part of the boys club that persecuted Hen and Chimney at first. But I would watch those brief scenes with Lou, and that smile would happen, and I’d think, ‘This guy’s got a lot of charisma.’ I really felt like, if he was comfortable doing this story, I should reach out to him.”
Minear much preferred having Buck go through this experience with someone the audience already knew, rather than having to “invent some bi character for Buck to have an awakening with.” Fortunately for Minear, when he finally got them together, “they had chemistry!”
And it isn’t lost on Minear that Buck’s dynamic with Tommy echoes the one he once had with Eddie, calling it “almost a reprise of the dynamic from [Eddie]’s first episode where Buck was super jealous of the new guy. Now he’s jealous for a different reason.”
I really don’t care for this type of story line. I guess I’m old school, programs should be entertaining and not show me things I am trying to get away from. I will probably not watch another “911”. This is not Buck. From the beginning he has been a woman chaser, and now this. I don’t think so.
Even though Buck chased after lots of pretty women and enjoyed their company, he could have been fighting his attraction to men.
Even though Buck chased after lots of pretty women and enjoyed their company, he could have been fighting his attraction to men all along.
@PKM, sorry to tell you, this happens in the real world, my suggestion (if you don’t want to see what the world looks like today) is to watch shows on TVLand or the other channels that show what the world was like in the 40’s, 50’s and early 60’s.
“There have been crumbs for years and years,” he says to anyone who dares to act surprised by this turn of events.
If Buddie wanted to get Tommy’s attention, why did he do some stuff while he was AWAY from him. I think he’s just confused and thinks he feels something for him, when it reality is Eddie he wanted to pay attention to him all the time.
I think there are layers to it. They don’t want to take away from his discovering his bisexuality by making it all about Eddie (and they shouldn’t). In my opinion he has feelings about both, and it’s no coincidence Tommy is similar to Eddie, but it’s harder and scarier to admit feelings about your best friend who you would never want to lose. We’ll see what happens. I for one think it’s more realistic if he dates around first. They have time.
For One I am knot big on Gay romance “s but this one I don’t mind. Buck had so many heartbreak” s with women. I was just hoping Eddie wood switch sides to because, he is knot doing great in the women department and there best friends. Buck is also Eddie ‘s kids God father. So they can be A family. I really don’t see A problem. look Lonestar..
Done with this show
Yeah yeah, let’s give Buck his flowers. But like, this was the 100th episode and they focused AGAIN on Buck??? After he had so much focus throughout the last seasons?
Athena! The only character that has been on truly 100 episodes of the show should’ve been given this episode if it’s not a truly team one.
She just got a 3 episode premiere…
Enough pushing the LGQBT agenda. One less 9-1-1 viewing family now…. Such a small percentage of society gets so much screen time…
Good Job 9-1-1….
Perhaps we should push the “family values” platform where you preach one thing and then do another. How many so-called family values promoters have turned out to be gay?
I’m pissed off and really sad that 911 took this direction with Buck. Buck has always been a ladies man Now all of a sudden he is Gaye. Lots of viewers including me will be turned off and turn away from what used to be one of my favorite shows. Please make it a bad dream
you should read up on the difference between gay and bisexual, Pat.

When I was uncovering my sexuality, I had so many missteps. So many start and stops. So many moments doubting myself whether the attraction was real, or maybe I was seeking something different, or maybe I am attention seeking. As bisexual, you constantly struggle with am I really straight and people are pretty or am I gay and its all been a lie. I say all that to say, this story means so much to me. The love and care they are taking with this journey, is not unique in real life and it is about time we got the representation of it. More than anything, it is not shoe horned in for ratings. It feels incredible true to the character and the show. Cannot wait to see how it evolves!
I‘m furious and mega pissed off that they CHANGED Eddie’s entire character just so that Bi Buck could even work in the first place and then they forced this annoying Tommy character down our throats. It’s also pathetic that Buck is even interested in Eddies Walmart version. They really can keep Bi Buck if it’s with this bland male second hand Eddie. And please stop using Eddie as Buck‘s plot devise all the time. This was the most heartbreaking take ifrom this awful episode. Eddie deserves thousands times better. I’m soooo tired of Buck and his character. Each season he gets more annoying and while i‘m at it Ravi also deserved better than this 5 second of screentime. Audience love him.
Congrats in joining with the homophobes to attack the show! You people don’t realize that you could keep queer Eddie from ever happening if you go this hard against Buck’s storyline. TPTB are watching reactions and you’re not helping.
Absolutely done with this show, and before I get attacked for being homophobic or whatever it has nothing to do with there being a lgtbq storyline or character, since there have been those on both 911 shows from the beginning. I was hoping the first 3 episodes were bad and unbelievable because ABC wanted to make a splash with the show moving over. The writing is absolutely awful this year, the storylines completely unbelievable and what they did with Buck tonight feels like a cheap ploy to get ratings. He hurts his best friend because he’s secretly in love with that guy. It was insulting and a ratings grab and funny how it comes on the same episode that they get the bachelor fans to watch. Guess they figure they like trashy tv. Again it’s not because there is a lgtbq character but the way they did it with one of the main characters with no foreshadowing. Whoever is running the show this year has absolutely killed it. Hope 911 Lonestar stays on Fox.
Such a stupid story line. I am not going to watch this show anymore. Not everyone is gay and Buck never came across as gay. Stupid move on ABC
Yep. Dumb. They already had gay characters on this show and Lonestar. Gratuitous for ratings.
Sweetie, are you determined to give all Allisons a bad name? Just stop.
I screamed during the last scene, it was SO well done and SO amazing to see! Letting a man is his 30’s start to figure himself out is a story we almost never get, this is such a blessing!
Bah, I wish I could be more excited about this. If only the Buddie folks weren’t so darn annoying and hadn’t been so nasty to every woman that dared get in the way. The way some treated Gabrielle Walsh (Ana) was just rotten.
do people realize this is a TV show? fiction? Buck is not a real person. no one is forcing him to do anything, he is a fictional character.
I can’t express how much I don’t care for this storyline unless the endgame is Buddie.
Gah! I cannot believe I’m getting to see late realized bi rep in a male main character in one of my favorite shows! As a bisexual person who didn’t realize until my mid 30’s that I was queer, I’m so freaking excited for this. 911 is so great at telling stories and I know this will be amazing!
Oh Gimme a break! All of a sudden he’s Gay??? Such BS!!!!
Well this was a disappointment. Has the show become this desperate to have to ruin it with another gay agenda. Shows are becoming harder to watch without the propaganda.
Don’t even wanna watch the show anymore!
Disgusting.
HULU-Record-911-DELETE
Buck has never shown any inclination towards being bisexual, let alone gay, so this is a change that makes absolutely zero sense.
If they wanted to add a male gay couple to the show, did it ever occur to them to do so by adding two new male characters to the show that, from the very get-go, are a gay couple?
That wouldn’t be controversial enough for ABC/Disney for ratings.
Maybe try reading what the actor, who knows his character and the show MUCH better than you, had to say about ‘never showing any inclination.’
I don’t have anything against gay people but honestly the TV show 911 transforming a non gay character suddenly to be gay sounds a little desperate for audience and honestly if that is the direction of the show it loose the purpose of the show making me not want to watch it anymore.
I agree. Totally desperate and unbelievable. But don’t forget that ABC is owned by Disney. They love this stuff.
“I don’t have anything against gay people” – sure, just keep telling yourself that. None of the rest us believe you.
It has been such an absolute joy watching Buck’s journey and finally getting to see this “oh” moment for him. Oliver truly understands and takes great care in portraying him, and it really is felt through the screen!! I can’t wait to continue seeing Buck’s journey :’) 🩷💜💙
