ABC has unveiled its Summer 2024 schedule, revealing when we can expect new seasons of returning favorites like The Bachelorette (starring Jenn Tran!) and celebrity guessing game Claim to Fame.
Who Wants to Be a Millionaire is also making its return to ABC after being quietly yanked from the network’s schedule back in 2022. At the time, it was reported that ABC was leaving the door “slightly ajar” for the show’s potential return, but we can now upgrade that to “fully open.” Jimmy Kimmel will return as host.
ABC is also debuting a brand-new game show, Lucky 13, hosted by Shaquille O’Neal and Gina Rodriguez. The trivia competition poses 13 true-or-false questions to its contestants, but there’s a twist: “Just how well do they know what they know … and, just as importantly, how well do they know what they don’t know? If they can accurately predict how successfully they’ve answered 13 questions, they could take home a $1 million cash jackpot.”
Additional returning hits include Judge Steve Harvey (Season 2), Press Your Luck (Season 6) and Celebrity Family Feud (Season 11).
Read on for a breakdown of ABC’s big summer premieres, then drop a comment with your picks. Which shows will you be using to beat the heat?
NOTE: This is your recurring reminder that ABC’s scheduling of unscripted shows is “opportunistic” — meaning, “when they need it.” So if you don’t see what you consider to be a “summer” show here, don’t jump to the worst conclusions. It may simply return… later.

Any news on The Chase
Has not yet been renewed for Season 4
Lame and lazy and lowest common denominator scheduling. Just is!
But what about Holey Moley??
It’s been almost 2 years since a new episode of this “not cancelled” series.

Feels almost cheating to include it in that article, since the news is “no news”.
Loved Holey Moley. What’s the deal??
I am tired of inconsequential shows, such as game shows during the summer. We deserve new drama shows or even comedy shows during the summer season. It will be time for streaming television services since they treat us as inconsequential viewers.
The viewing audience is always lower during the summer. They’re not going to waste costlier new stuff on a smaller audience when they can get by with less expensive stuff.
The summer audience pretty much IS inconsequential – they measure take ratings, but they don’t get counted in the overall horserace. (which is why there’s no “August sweeps.”)
There is a July sweeps period, where there is expanded data in more markets like other sweeps periods, but it isn’t as important in the industry as November, February, and July, so we don’t get the same kind of emphasis on ratings-grabbing programming. It still helps determine local viewership and ad rates.
I’m curious and anxious to hear what “we” have done to “deserve” the programming you have indicated. We are entitled to nothing other than what they are offering and we are not obligated to tune in to any of it. Threatening an exodus to streaming is a threat they will ALL be anxious to witness, I assure you.
Are Generation Gap and The Chase cancelled?
kind of bugs me that they never seem to update us on their game shows
i was wondering this to i really liked generation gap but i guess we wont know now :(
They were discussing The Chase on Jeopardy Masters as if it is still In Active production. However, I don’t know how far back they taped the tournament to know if that mention is still relevant. Celebrity Jeopardy acted like the actress from Chicago Med was still on it even though she left years earlier.
Good to hear that Millionaire is back alongside a new show under the Millionaire guys called Lucky 13. Would’ve loved to see an American version of the original Tipping Point UK version though that also had a great start recently in Australia on its own.
I recall going in to Claim to Fame thinking I’d ditch it after one episode. Well after managing to overlook the Jonas brothers, season one was really, really good. Season two was pretty good as well. Looking forward to the coming season.
The amount of shows is quite few compared to previous summers. Normally ABC has at least 8 shows
Nothing but game show and reality shows. It’s really not for me. Are people actually excited for this stuff?
Do we know if Millionaire is going to be just regular contestants with a full audience or a celebrity/themed again?
The press release said, “This iteration will feature a new twist with two celebrity contestants playing together with the hope of winning $1 million for the charity of their choice.” I am not sure on audience, though lacking one before was due to COVID, so I feel like they would have more of one now.
Is Jimmy Kimmel going to host again?
Yes.
Who cares about game shows. We want new series.
Well, get your wallet out…and we’ll all watch with ya!
Networks used to use the summer to burn off series that weren’t picked up or had leftover episodes. Much better than the waste-of-time game and reality shows. And networks moan about viewers turning to streaming…
Glad for more PYL, but no Pyramid? :(
Two seasons ago, ABC had the celebrity versions of Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune on Sundays. With the strikes, they used them elsewhere last season and did Wonderful World of Disney last fall, but I think they could return to Sundays this season. The Rookie was still airing on Sundays when they last did, so I expect a third game show now goes there with Rookie on Tuesdays. My money is on $100,000 Pyramid but The Chase could also be a contender.
Glad to see Judge Steve Harvey back on this summer
No new drama at all? I have zero interest in any of these.
Ditto
Sounds boring
When is The Chase coming back? It’s one of your best shows!! Do not cancel it like you did Card Sharks!! That was an excellent show but you disappointed us by canceling it! Bring back The Chase!!!
