Warner Bros. Animation, Cartoon Network Studios and Hanna-Barbera Studios are rebooting, reviving and (in some cases) remixing some of their biggest animated properties, as revealed Wednesday at the Annecy Animation Festival.
The most exciting announcements were made about Adventure Time, which is not only getting its first feature-length film but also two spinoffs, titled Side Quests and Hey BMO, the latter of which is aimed at preschool-aged viewers.
Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, which aired for six seasons (2004–2009) on Cartoon Network, is also being reimagined for a younger audience.
Another yet-untouched gem being revisited is Regular Show, which aired for eight seasons (2010–2017) on Cartoon Network, though little is known about the new series.
One of the wildest reveals was a first look at Go-Go Mystery Machine, which sends Scooby-Doo‘s Shaggy and Scooby to Japan, where they team up with a new cast of characters — including Scooby’s Japanese uncle?! — to hunt and capture monsters.
Read on for a breakdown — and in some cases, a sneak peek — of the reimagined versions of these animated favorites, whose release dates all remain very much TBD. When you’re done, drop a comment with the shows you’re looking forward to below.

Adventure Time will also wrangle new, younger fans via Heyo BMO, an animated series targeted at preschool-aged viewers. Heyo BMO finds the titular talking video game console moving into a new neighborhood, where he makes (and learns with) a new cast of characters.
If you like watching Adventure Time but struggle to keep up with the franchise’s ever-expanding lore, Side Quests is the show for you. The series, which takes viewers back to when Finn the Human was still a little boy, will consist of standalone episodes featuring fan-favorite characters.
The titular residency reopens its doors for a new, preschool-targeted series, in which a group of younger imaginary friends learn from “immature elder friend” Bloo, a main character from the original series. The only characters expected to return are Bloo and Madame Foster.
Original series creator Craig McCracken is attached.
A Scooby-Doo anime? Yes, it’s happening.
“While visiting Japan on the ultimate foodie adventure, Shaggy and Scooby-Doo unwittingly unleash hundreds of mischievous mythical monsters that are now causing trouble all over the country,” per the official description.
Joining the duo on their monster-hunting quest are Scooby’s uncle Daisuke-Doo, his magical friend Etsuko and a gadget wiz named Toshiro.
Little is known about this one, including which popular characters from the original Regular Show may return, but that’s enough to get us excited. Plus, original series creator J.G. Quintel is back!
The girl in the Mystery Machine looks a little like Entrapta.
She does! What a wonderfully specific and accurate comparison. I love it.
All Sound amazing but I still want The Amazing Wall of Gumball new seasons or a movie.
There’s so much love for that show. I have to imagine it’ll return in some form. Or several forms.
Wish they’d bring back courage the cowardly dog. The show was brilliant and ahead of its time.
From your mouth to Cartoon Network Studios’ ears. That show is a masterpiece and still holds up.
I watched a lot of Adventure Time and Regular Show in college (phenomenal cartoons for stoner adults) but fell off of the former about four or five seasons in, so while I’m excited for the AT movie, Side Quests sounds right up my alley! The lore was getting a little too deep for the amount of time I could afford to commit to it, so very happy at this chance to pop in to Ooo every now and then.
I’ll be starting a family of my own sooner than later, so not only will Heyo BMO be an assuredly cute thing to watch with my future kids, a reimagining of Foster’s Home for younger audiences will be super cool to see as someone who grew up with the original.
Adventure Time now being a multi-generational franchise is truly a thing of beauty. I hope your kids enjoy it someday.
Regular Show revival! Yes! My son and I started watching it together when he was 5! You know who else is excited? Your mom!
I wish the whole Scooby gang was in the anime Scooby Doo, but it sounds exciting all the same.
Me too. I dont like when they split the gang. For me Fred, Velma and Daphne are as important as Scooby and Shaggy, without them Im not interested
awesome news about regular show
One of these days I got to check out adventure time cause friend I know and trust says that show is awesome.
