"Beyond the Sea"
At first, this episode feels like a Space Race throwback in the vein of For All Mankind, with Aaron Paul and Josh Hartnett playing 1960s astronauts on a mission in space. But of course, there’s a twist: The astronauts have robotic replicas of themselves living their lives on earth while they’re in space, and an unspeakable tragedy leads to a thorny ethical dilemma about the true meaning of identity. The period setting gives the tale a vintage vibe with a sci-fi kick, and the production design is impeccable. But with a languorous 80-minute running time (the longest of the season), it’s all a bit sleepy and sterile, giving us plenty of time to predict the inevitable plot developments before they happen. Add in a wildly bleak ending that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, and we’re not sure this mission should’ve even been attempted. Grade: C
Joan is Awful is absolutely wonderful. It really cheered me up today.
Reverse the ranking order and you’ve got it right.
Eek. I am not sure what show this reviewer was watching but you got it all wrong.
Joan Is Awful is meta perfected
Joan is awful was my fave episode this season. That scene where she shat in the church after eating the burgers was hilarious. Probably the funniest episode of the entire 6 seasons.
Beyond the sea was definitely the worst, that ending was so bleak and nonsensical. It’s a shame as the actors were very good.
Demon 79 was entertaining too, my second favourite. Overall I think the entire season was quite strong
Joan is Awful was pretty wonkly and never really came together (some great performances though). Loch Henry is downright boring and predictable. I stopped watching after that. I will eventually pick it back up but so far, there is not much incentive for me to do so.
I enjoyed Loch Henry, Demon 79 and Mazey Day, the other two were just meh for me. I like Harnett and Paul and was hoping their episode would’ve been something to rewatch.
I’m actually surprised by this but I agree with the order!
Demon 79 was the perfect homage/parody of the Hammer horror films.
For me, it’s:
1. Loch Henry
2. Beyond the Sea
3. Joan is Awful
4. Demon 79
5. Mazey Day
Beyond the Sea was definitely the worst. So boring, and did not bring anything new or original at all. It seems to be overly ranked high because people love Aaron Paul, so it’s great to see it ranked so low here.
