Things simmered down for a few months, until May 2024 brought the sad news that OG Chicago Fire-fighter Eamonn Walker was stepping down as a series regular.
And most recently, we learned that Dominic Rains would not be returning as Crockett for Chicago Med Season 10.
On the plus (meaning, additions) side, Luke Mitchell joined Med for Season 9; Rome Flynn (How to Get Away With Murder) joined Fire for Season 12 (yet only lasted a half dozen episodes); Sophia Ali (Grey’s Anatomy) briefly scrubbed in at Med; Michael Bradway was cast as Fire‘s Jack Damon; P.D. quietly recruited Bojana Novakovic (Instinct) to play Jo Petrovic; and Jocelyn Hudson (who portrays Fire’s Lyla Novak) was promoted to series regular for next season.
Med suffers the most from cast leaving. Crockett is a tough loss. It feels like a different show now. But I’ll keep watching for Charles, Goodwin, and Archer. Not impressed with Michell so far but hoping the Crockett replacement is a strong one.
why would an executive care about veteran cast members leaving? he doesn’t have to give a pay bump when they leave every 2-3 years.
I would have thought that Chicago PD would certainly be in third. So disappointed. But I love all three shows. Will continue to watch them.Keep up the good work you’re doing!Much love ❤️
The fact that they’re even commenting on it suggests they’re more concerned than they want us to think. The same thing has happened with the Law & Order shows (albeit not on this scale) and they haven’t said anything then…
Or, it means that I specifically asked him about #OneChicago.
I am an avid fan of the Chicago shows and very unhappy with all of the departures. Probably will not watch anymore but l am aware that these decisions are made by the actors. 😊 Good luck!
So far, it has not affected the ratings. That can change. I am worried less about Fire than the other two shows. I think Fire has handled their cast departures better than the other two shows. I also feel PD needs to go back to the storytelling that it used to do between season 1-7. This focus on 1 or 2 characters in the majority of episodes, I am not a fan of. Kevin get the focus for one episode and then he is barely in the next episode, don’t like this at all. Plus, One Chicago used to have a lot of cross over between the shows and cross over episodes. Now, we’re lucky if we see Cruz on Med for 2 minutes or Atwater on Fire for a scene. These shows used to be far more connected, now they are very much stand alone.
It sounds as if the actors and Wolf share in their leaving. I can’t imagine that too many actors would leave without having a new gig lined up (not everyone gets paid a million dollars an episode!) if they left voluntarily (say for example, not wanting to film anymore in a foreign country.) As an avid tv viewer, it does p*** me off at first but I usually come around to the new character.
Chicago med is bleeding pretty bad. Only 3 original characters left. Doesn’t have the same feel. Yes, I still like it and watch it every week, but it feels different. Chicago Fire is also starting to follow suit.
I do have a suggestion, yes I am showing my age here. Combined Fire and Med. Make it like NBC’s Emergency from the 70’s. Fire responds, do their thing, then the hospital is up. This would be nothing new for Dick Wolf. Law and Order has been doing it since day one. Cops investigate the crime, make the arrest. Second half the court takes over for the trial.
Anybody hear if Kara Killmer has a new project lined up? It will be interesting to see what type of person she plays next.
I wish Erin would come back to PD !!!as I was never a fan of Upton! And I definitely don’t like the new one to drinks to much !!! Waste of space imo !!!! I still miss Erin her and Hank were favorite!! I just hope Hank never leaves as I would definitely switch over !!
Seems to me that Chicago PD is suffering. We used to have a pair of street cops to watch and interact with Trudy. Along with the 5 or 6 regulars upstairs. Now we’re down to the 4 or 5 upstairs with an occasional Trudy.
It limits the story lines.
Hope they cancel Fire soon. The storylines are so silly and boring. Have to fast forward every episode.
NBC’s top-rated, most-watched entertainment program.
Budget cuts I guess.
What about Fire’s Carver, doesn’t he get a promotion to main?
Actors leave shows also because they want to do other projects. These hour long dramas require 14 hrs per day . 6 days weekly. Doesn’t give them time for anything else . Good luck to all of them.
