Dark Winds (AMC)

WHY IT DESERVES A NOD: AMC’s 1970s-set crime/mystery drama isn’t big, it isn’t splashy. It knows exactly what it is, yet exhibits an impressive efficiency in storytelling. Season 2 made the stakes for Joe Leaphorn painfully personal, as the Navajo lawman locked horns with two men who were directly involved in his son’s years-ago murder. Throw in compelling details about Navajo culture, a stunning Badlands backdrop, perfectly doled-out dashes of humor and a smidgen of romance, and you have one of TV’s most well-rounded dramas. — Matt Webb Mitovich
“The Good Doctor” is such an excellent show, yet it gets totally overlooked every year. It should’ve been nominated for “Best Drama Series” every year it was on. And Freddie Highmore, likewise, should’ve been nominated for Best Actor in a Drama Series. The fact that it got completely ignored over and over again is a travesty!!
I literally just said the same thing to my husband yesterday !!!!
Freddie should have won for sure at least once, and he should have an Emmy for portraying Norman Bates in Bates Motel as well…..truly awesome performances on both series.
I don’t think the show necessarily should be nominated but definitely Freddie should have been nominated every season
Agreed. If Freddie doesn’t get a nomination for the final season, it’ll be a travesty.
The good Dr and Freddie Highmore‘s performance has been overlooked too long. The finals season was definitely worthy of recognition. I agree it should have been in contention in previous years as well. Really wish itmade this list. Perio Haven’t looked at the actors list yet. Hope Highmore is there.
Love seeing Will Trent and Strange New Worlds on the list! Bumping up The Way Home and Dark Winds on my list to watch. Some of the others, whether I’ve seen them or not, are a bit more expected from what I’ve seen in Emmy buzz, while mostly also being fresh (be they new like Shogun or overlooked before like Gilded Age).
I am disappointed there is no mention of FOR THE LOVE OF TODD. This was a fun, innovative show with substance, heart, likable characters. They managed to illustrate the importance of justice, fair play, and family interactions in this new age. Wonderful characters and writing. So sad to see it go…maybe more violence, misogyny and explosions would have helped.
I think you meant to write SO HELP ME TODD…?
If you mean So Help Me Todd, it is contending in the comedy category as far as I know. So if it doesn’t get mentioned there, feel free to speak out, but no reason for it to be mentioned here.
I agree with you. I loved So Help Me Todd. That cancelation hurt the most.
Still irks me that it got cancelled.
Definitely Dark Winds
I would be over the moon if Star Trek Strange New Worlds was nominated. Star Trek never gets nominated. Also love Will Trent, hope that gets some love as well.
I would love to see Interview with the Vampire nominated for something.
I hope Shogun steals the show at this year’s ceremony
For me
Will Trent
The Gilded Age
Shogun
House of Dragon
True Detective: Night Country
Palm Royale
While I would love to see House of the Dragon nominated, I don’t think it’s eligible this year. Season 1 aired in 2022 and season 2 won’t have aired in time.
Palm Royale is in the comedy categories.
Also, I think True Detective: Night Country will be in the Limited Series categories since no characters from previous seasons carried over.
Definitely needs to be somewhere in the nominations!
True Detective is a limited series and sure to be nominated in that category.
Hell Yes to Dark Winds and Will Trent !! Both are outstanding shows with stellar casts. It would be a hard choice between them.
Strange New Worlds and Will Trent for sure!!
“Will Trent” is an outstanding show! Performances and writing are top notch.
Will Trent is an outstanding show certainly hope it makes the cut great ensemble. Excellent writing And the brilliant Ramon Rodriguez as ITrent
no love for Fallout?
Fallout at least has a better shot here than Strange New Worlds (though I’d love to see that get in) or Will Trent. I’m pretty sure it’s eligible in this category too.
Would FALLOUT be up for awards next year? I know the timing of what’s eligible when got severely screwed up by the strikes, so at this point I wouldn’t be surprised to see FALLOUT going up against LOST, to be honest.
I never miss Will Trent TV show. It is the very best on TV!
Great mention for “Will Trent” (that finale!) But “Slow Horses” definitely deserves the recognition this year.
The Way Home has a pretty active online community… I started watching last year for Andie and Chyler because of their previous shows and got hooked by this… Always enjoy time travel shows. Not sure it’s Emmy winning …. Morning Show might win because of love of Hollywood Libs for all things Covid… I also agree that Freddie Highmore and his show is overlooked.. A show like Will Trent shouldn’t represent regular network TV… How about Blue Bloods??? Probably want to ignore due to politics of stars..
Dougie, chill out on the “Hollywood Libs” and “all things COVID”, and “probably want to ignore due to politics of stars” BS. It’s tiresome.
It’s YOUR side that continues to divide this country.
It’s time to grow up, Douglas.
This is a list of the shows that TV Line writers would like to see nominated. Not the shows that are actually nominated. Those haven’t even been announced yet.
This article literally suggests Morning Show for NOT making it about Covid this season, so you seem to be the one imposing an agenda
Love to see Dark Winds on here. It deserves every word of praise that it receives (and more). Hoping, probably in vain, that we get season 3 before summer 2025.
What about Law and Order:SVU? They deserve a nomination too
25 years strong is an excellent win in itself.
I think The Ones Who Live is deserving too.
Same. It was so well done.
The Bear needs to move over where it belongs in Drama.
I also want Danai Gurira for best actress in drama series category. She did an amazing job.
At the very least I do hope she gets a nomination for it but it would also be great if she got a nomination for best writing in a drama series for TWOL episode 4 because while the whole show was great, that episode was written so well by her!
I tried to watch Mr. & Mrs. Smith and found it to be a total bore! However, I’d love to see Will Trent recognized!
3 body problem is missing from this list.
Yay for the inclusion of Strange New Worlds, which had an outstanding Season 2 (and it’s killing me that we have to wait until 2025 for Season 3). It’ll never ever get a nomination, of course, but I appreciate TVLine’s support.
Dark Winds
Gilded Age
Slow Horses
Death’s Game, South Korean import on Amazon Prime. 8 episode limited series with the performance of the decade from Park So-Dam as Death herself. Unforgettable. A master class in villainy.

And yes, Strange New Worlds getting 25 nominations.
The Way Home is outstanding and happy to see it mentioned here. Honestly it is the writing that deserves the biggest nod. The writing is so well layered, complex, and intriguing. You never know what is going to happen and every time they throw you a curve ball you have to go back and watch both seasons to find all the little clues connected to a detail that they shed light on. Brilliant.
