Paul W. Downs, Hacks
WHY HE DESERVES A NOD: As Deborah’s longtime manager Jimmy, Downs soared among the tomfoolery that constantly surrounded him in Season 3. The actor mastered the art of treading through high-pressure situations and exhaustive nonsense — from Jimmy’s client’s eccentric demands to his assistant Kayla’s nonstop delusions — while still bringing the funny. With wide-eyed facial expressions and expertly timed responses to Kayla’s mania, Downs played the perfect straight man, beautifully playing off his co-stars and landing his own laughs with lines that could’ve been throwaways in lesser hands. While Downs may take a backseat to the show’s leading duo, his comedic instincts always left us wanting more. — Nick Caruso
Lance Barber for Young Sheldon. His work in the final episodes was extraordinary. As I watch reruns, I appreciate how good he was throughout the series. It would have been so easy to play the Southern coach trope; instead, he gave us one of the best tv fathers ever. And imagine the surprise to find he added an accent so real I never questioned he wasn’t Southern.
Proud to say I havent watched any of this pulp
I love the way some ‘people’ judge shows and have never watched them. Tells you alot about them, all of which is not good.
I would like to see Chris Perfetti nominated too for Abbott
Guess no one at TVLine is watching The Big Door Prize; otherwise you would have included the multi-layered and superlative performance of Josh Segarra as Giorgio. But there is too much on TV, so it’s understandable. That’s why the Emmys no longer make sense. The awards should be split up between network and streaming.
Harvey & Lance definitely should be nominated.
Both really showcased their characters. Both talented actors will be missed!
Sitcoms still exists on broadcast network TV? Now *that’s* funny.
And they’re amazing!
Nicholas Lyndhurst came nowhere near replacing Niles Crane or David Hyde Pierce in my heart.
