ERIC LEAVING DONNA TO GO TO AFRICA
We can believe that Eric had suddenly found his passion for teaching. We can even bring ourselves to believe that, presented with no other options, Eric would agree to a job in Africa in exchange for a college scholarship after Red spent his tuition money to keep the muffler shop afloat. What we can’t bring ourselves to believe is that he would make the choice to leave Point Place without first discussing it with Donna. Topher Grace’s own decision to depart the series tied the writers’ hands, of course, but this particular exit strategy still leaves a bad taste in our mouths.
I really hated what they did do Jackie & Hyde. It just didn’t make any sense. And now it never will.
Regarding Topher Grace leaving. He did extend his contract for another year and even before that Eric changed for the worse. They just didn’t know how to keep the gang together after hight school. I understand not wanting to end the series, it was a paying job after all. But I wish they had ended it on a high note before Eric and Kelso left.
I’m having a hard time believing Donna got pregnant the minute Eric got back from Africa. Which is what would have had to happen for new show to make sense. And I thought Red and Kitty were selling the house and moving to Florida.
It only takes a minute to get pregnant, though. Not that that’s the fun way…

They changed their minds in the finale. The show had been implying over the last three or four episodes that they were having doubts about going and at their NYE party they announced to their guests that they had decided to stay.
They decided not to sell and stayed in point place
They changed their mind about moving, remember Hyde bought Red Packers season tickets?
Remember,they tried showing the house & Kitty got too upset,so they decided to stay!
He was gone for a year and then came back for her. Why would you have a hard time believing she would get pregnant soon after? Do you think people only get pregnant after they get married and plan for it? Lol
Much like the final seasons of most of the sitcoms mentioned in this article, I only watched S8 sporadically. Even though I had shipped Fez & Jackie in S1, I was not at all happy about TPTB breaking up Jackie & Hyde.
I had a crush on Bret Harrison, so I think that I might have tuned in more often if they had kept him as Eric’s replacement.
I recently re-watched the entire season and Season 8 is for sure the weakest season it is certainly not as bad as everyone seems to say it is. The Jackie, Mary Tyler Moore episodes are hilarious in fact.
I do hate that they paired up Jackie and Fez in the end.
Looking forward to this spinoff, just hope they do it justice.
It was saved by Kelso. Being in the 1st 4, then the final 2, and a few in the middle were better than the restp, making for a descent half season, the problem was the other 10 episode were some of the worst the show had ever made.
Eric leaving Donna at the alter. AND Donna not going to college to be with Eric. Stupid move for a strong woman.
Jackie & Fez – ugh, please no more of that.

Eric in Africa was fine.
Kelso getting someone pregnant made perfect sense. Never saw Kelso & Brooke making it long term, can’t wait to see what the writers cook up.

I hated BOTH of the last two seasons. Eric becoming a lazy d-bag in 7, and the ONLY reasons to watch 8 were a) the finale episode, and more important, Kelso’s exit. VIC (Bruce Willis) was by far the highlight of the season!!!
Kelso having a kid actually led to some of the best character development on the show. Definitely shouldn’t be changed
I never found this series anything special despite the talented cast. Storylines all over the place. Actors far past ages of characters.

How so? Danny Masterson was the oldest of the bunch with 22 years when the series started. The rest 20 and even younger. That’s a lot closer in age then most other shows set in Highschool.
Mila Kunis was 15.
Luke Wilson as Kelso’s bullying older brother (who dated younger Donna) may not have been the worst character, but it was probably the worst role for the actor’s career.
Maybe I’m digressing a bit. But I disagree about Fuller House not showcasing its legacy cast. It’s on regular rotation in our house because. I think the legacy cast was featured quite a bit throughout the series. Even have only watched Saved By The Bell (2020) S1, I also think by virtue of Jessie and Slater being main characters, the show has done a pretty good job maintaining that connection to the original series
I do believe Randy died on the way back to his home planet.
I’ve got no issue with Kelso’s daughter turning up. He was a man whore. An unexpected love child should always bee the price for it. Jackie and Fez could’ve burned out, and then she reunited with Kelso.. As for Randy, someone could just ask “Whatever happened to Randy?”, and someone could answer “Who?”
Or he could have died falling off the water tower!

Agreed though, no problem with the Kelso child story because it fit with the character. They are (IMO) going to have to address where Hyde is in some way, because the premise described music (grunge/alternative rock) as being a major part of the story and in the 90s that meant hanging out at record shops.
Hyde was one of my favorite characters, although he screwed his buddies over a few times. He should still be running his rich dad’s record shop! And I was So hoping Jackie would end up pregnant by Hyde or Fez!
Maybe they can say Hyde’s in prison for some reason!
That’d be too sensitive to real-life events I think.
I hope in the new series they write it so that Eric returned from Africa earlier than planned. Red sold the muffler shop and had money plenty enough to retire to FL. Since they decided to stay put, maybe they had money for Eric’s tuition. Jackie and Fez didn’t get married so they probably realized they were better off as friends. Jackie moved to Chicago for a career and she and a more mature Kelso decided to start anew. I am looking forward to That 90’s Show, but they have to have an appearance from Eric and Donna. There must be some compelling reason for Leia to be moving in with Kitty and Red.
I got to watch the first episode already and it’s fun and full of good surprises…and that was just the first episode.

I never liked Randy, either. He should have ended up with Jackie instead of Fez. I hope Leo is still around. I loved him!
God help me, I always liked Kelso and Jackie.
Jackie and Hyde were such a perfect couple, I never got over the show breaking them up and not having them get back together in the final season. Jackie and Fez were just terrible and made zero sense. And it’s really a shame that, because of Danny Masterson’s circumstances, the writers will be unable to right that wrong and put Jackie back with Hyde. I can settle for Jackie with Kelso though. Anything is better than having her with Fez.
I hope they have some sort of tribute to Lisa Robin Kelley and Tanya Roberts, since both have passed away since the show ended.

I just hope they at-least mention Hyde to some degree to make it known what happened to the character. I completely understand and support the character not making an onscreen appearance but mentioning he passed away or something would at least give the character some closure.
I also hope this new show doesn’t last as long as that 70’s show (well it’s a Netflix show so of course, it won’t even if it’s great) because once they became adults it was downhill from there.

Jackie and fez is hinted at over the entire series. It’s the only logical outcome. The fact that people hate on it is crazy to me. Hyde is literally too broken. And kelso is a idiot. Jackie has one rule and Fez is the only person that wouldn’t break it.
I wish they could find a way to have Jackie and Hyde back together but just with Hyde not showing on the new series.
And whatever happened to Donna’s little sister? Whatever became of Eric’s sister? Or Bob choosing who to be with? I love the show & have watched it repeatedly! Can’t wait for That ’90s show! Wondering who Red’s foot is going in next!
I don’t feel that they need to retcon Kelso’s daughter just because Jackie and kelso are together. Having a daughter is what matured Kelso and it makes sense that Betsy isn’t part of Leia’s friend group because she would live in Chicago where Brooke and Kelso both moved to. I would assume Jackie eventually moved to Chicago and got some kind of talk show and reconnected with Kelso at some point.
