1 | Will we ever find out what happened to Hyde? We understand why Danny Masterson isn’t involved — good riddance! — but couldn’t someone have made a passing reference to his character, just to establish that his character hasn’t been erased from the franchise?
2 | Speaking of M.I.A. characters: Were you surprised that the show didn’t at least dedicate an episode to former castmates Lisa Robin Kelly and Tanya Roberts? Or acknowledge if, similarly, Laurie and Midge are no longer with us?
3 | We understand that it was probably a logistical nightmare working around the legacy cast’s schedules. With that said, wasn’t the finale’s “big” circle moment — featuring new footage of Fez and Donna, but flashback footage of Eric, Jackie and Kelso — a major letdown? Couldn’t the Powers That Be have banked new shots of the others? The actors wouldn’t have had to be on set at the same time to make it work!
4 | Were you surprised that special guest star Wilmer Valderrama — arguably the busiest of the legacy cast at the moment, as one of the stars of broadcast’s most-watched drama NCIS — had the most screen time, aside from returning series regulars Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp?
13. Jackie cheating on Fez with Kelso
Yeah, that was disappointing. I have so far only watched the first three episodes. But the cheating didn’t make sense in the original series and it doesn’t make sense now. And why was Kitty so flustered around Kelso? Where did that come from?
Yes, especially considering how adamant Jackie was against cheating.
So I’m guessing that Nikki, Jay, and Nate are going to be juniors and the other 3 sophomores.
8. I think that was something that bothered me the most. We are supposed to assume they all fell out of touch so much that Leia and Jay never met once in their life? Usually you grow apart from friends because you are at different places in your life but raising kids around the same age seems like something they would do together.
17. I believe Leia is supposed to be the youngest like Jackie was with the rest of the gang.
Maybe if it gets a season 2 things will be explained further or details will just change like the did from beginning to end of the original show. (Ex. Donna having sisters)
Let’s not forget that in the original show the gang stayed in high school for five years(Jackie for six, or seven). Then of course that despite seemingly 8 years go by the pilot started at the summer of 76 and the series finale was at the start of the 80’s.
So let’s not expect time to be consistent in this follow-up.
Kelso moved to Chicago before That 70s Show ended, but moved back to Wisconsin at some point after.
Eric/Donna/Leia were in Wisconsin when That 70s Show ended, but at some point after moved to Chicago.
The families probably weren’t around each other a lot, so it’s pretty easy to believe that the kids don’t know each other.
Donna did dress up as Princess Leia for Eric before he left for Africa, so it makes perfect sense that he let them name their daughter Leia. (Even though she didn’t agree on her middle name being Tatooine).
This show is great not quite the A That 70s Show was but Solid B.
Also get Jackie and Fez back together.
21- didn’t leis tell Gwen in the beginning that she doesn’t have friends? She’s an outcast who just focuses on debate and school. I may be remembering wrong but I think it was mentioned
Leia said she’s not popular, but she did mention having friends.
14. The video store had some major goofs too like 1997’s The Lost World: Jurassic Park being available to rent.
No, that was the original Jurassic Park.
fyi, there’s copies of jurassic park plus the collector’s edition of the lost world: jurassic park inside of video haven in the second ep. also apollo 13 and batman forever were still playing in theaters at the time but vhs copies are on the shelf.
#10 is basically True. Especially in the early 00’s there were tons of courses being developed in niche areas like this by adjuncts for teaching at major Unis even.
Out of all the things on this list, that’s one of the few I didn’t question this at all. My college had a Star Wars course and it was incredibly popular.
Yeah, I actually went to a Chicago university that had a Star Wars course so I’m going with the concept that Eric taught at my college.
As far as Laurie goes why would they kill off the character? They had already replaced her on that 70’s show with I believe Christina Moore.
you are right. christina recurred in the sixth season at the time lisa once again left the series. idk if laurie shows up again despite the recasting. btw, rip lisa.
13. Makes perfect sense to me. Jackie and Fez weren’t real. In fact, I pretend they were never together.
I liked them together
Agree! It was like the jump the shark moment. It didn’t feel right. He was like her gay best friend. I still think he needs to come out.
Lets be honest Hyde was ending up in jail.
Leia is good combination of parents. Good looking like mom but awkward like dad.
Good Riddance to Danny Masterson?
The trial led to a hung jury leaning towards Not Guilty on all 3 charges. Might want to be careful about your implications, if I were him I’d be making a list of who to sue in the event he’s found Not Guilty at retrial..
I know. Innocent until proven guilty does not appear to apply, depending on your particular crime.
There is so clear verdict on his case. He hasn’t clear his name, nor found guilty. The unknown is still hanging over his head. They didn’t say anything about his character could means he can still come back in the future, in theory.
I hate when critics go negative or positive on anything and then you go in pos or neg expecting the same. I thought Top Gun 2022 was going to be the best thing didn’t care for it at all as for That 90’s show it’s definitely not the original though it still keep my interest and laughs.
14. I was a MASSIVE Dr. Quinn fan as a teenager, so I have that issue. It’s somewhere with all my DQMW memorabilia.
Sometimes, being thiiiiiiis nitpicky just sucks the fun out of anything.
Took the words outta my mouth
oh ffs, TVL knows how to suck the fun outta anything….most viewers don’t care about any of these. It was enjoyable as it was…Honestly, who cares if Jackie “cheated” on Fez, that was his version anyway, why judge Jackie off of that one statement.
The show was fun & funny as it was….I hope Netflix renews it.
why is tvl so hellbent on hating this reboot?
Hated Jackie anyway…….
New question: If Leia is turning 15 in July of 1995 that means she was conceived in Oct 1979 which would mean Eric is not her father so is she Randy’s?
Follow up question: exactly how old is Jay Kelso because he would have to be younger than Leia for that timeline to add up.
Real question: Were any of these writers parents who understand how pregnancy/ conceiving a baby works? Or did they just not care and basically retcon the entire series??? I’m leaning towards the former.
This is a good point. Jackie is supposedly Jay’s mother but if he is older than Leia than the timeline doesn’t add up because Jackie and Kelso weren’t together before he left Point Place
After Star Wars came out it was a very popular name, so I’m not surprised Donna agrees. Ita a great name. She did put her foot down on Tatooine being her middle name. The weed being in a nice dry space in a bag would be nice and dried out and burn easily. Surely it would still “work”.
Only watched two episodes do far. Hope it gets funnier
It doesn’t. Love the original but this is just forced and cringe worthy.
[COMMENT REMOVED DUE TO USE OF MULTIPLE USER NAMES]
I don’t agree with everything but you made some good points. I think they could bring back any of Fez’s GFs. Big Ronda? I think that was the nickname of one of them, Crazy Caroline, and that lady he broke up with because of how her parents were.
I see what you mean about Leia but I think Gwen is more like Hyde, even though she said her dad was a random truckdriver. She plays guys like how hyde played chicks. I’m hoping they can bring in his dad or sister at some point.
She was just glad Nate helped her out, Nate is a kind dude.
Lots of ideas and quetsions, can’t wait for more! See you next season everybody
Good point. Also, the hair ;)
I did find it weird when Red said to Sherri that they know Fez there was no mention of the fact he was technically their son-in-law at some point.
And I do find it weird that Donna agreed on the name Leia for their daughter. Seems like they would have settled with Carrie as a middle ground.
Masterson sucked before he raped those chicks. Now hes REAL worthless.
Sounds like someone had a crush….LOL!!!!
yeah, the stuff re: the 70s gang left much to be desired. i was very disappointed to see jackie and kelso ended up back together, especially with jackie apparently cheating on fez. her and kelso were a truly toxic pairing, and jackie was devastated when kelso and hyde cheated on her.
I tried, really tried, to like this show but couldn’t even make it through the first episode. Maybe at some point I will try again
