That ’90s Show: Did ’70s Gang Lose Touch? What Happened to Hyde? Kelso Kid Retconned? And More Burning Qs!

1 | Will we ever find out what happened to Hyde? We understand why Danny Masterson isn’t involved — good riddance! — but couldn’t someone have made a passing reference to his character, just to establish that his character hasn’t been erased from the franchise?

2 | Speaking of M.I.A. characters: Were you surprised that the show didn’t at least dedicate an episode to former castmates Lisa Robin Kelly and Tanya Roberts? Or acknowledge if, similarly, Laurie and Midge are no longer with us?

3 | We understand that it was probably a logistical nightmare working around the legacy cast’s schedules. With that said, wasn’t the finale’s “big” circle moment — featuring new footage of Fez and Donna, but flashback footage of Eric, Jackie and Kelso — a major letdown? Couldn’t the Powers That Be have banked new shots of the others? The actors wouldn’t have had to be on set at the same time to make it work!

4 | Were you surprised that special guest star Wilmer Valderrama — arguably the busiest of the legacy cast at the moment, as one of the stars of broadcast’s most-watched drama NCIS — had the most screen time, aside from returning series regulars Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp?

5 | Why do Eric, Kitty and Bob all have the same haircuts they had in 1979?

6 | Whose wig was worst, and why was it Laura Prepon’s? (We’re giving Valderrama’s bangs a pass, since Fez is supposed to look ridiculous.) And why did Prepon even need a wig? Donna wasn’t always a redhead… would audiences have cared if she was rocking Prepon’s current, black hair?

7 | Was Fenton’s extreme makeover an ode to Jim Rash’s memorable stint as Community‘s costume-and-wig friendly Dean Pelton?

8 | Are we supposed to assume that the old basement gang fell out of touch? Even if Kelso and Jackie weren’t still acquaintances of Red and Kitty, wouldn’t Eric and Donna at some point in the last 15 years have told them that Kelso and Jackie had a son that was roughly Leia’s age?

9 | Given how Donna typically reacted when Eric unleashed his inner fanboy, do you really think she’d let him name their only daughter after Princess Leia?

10 | What’s less believable: That Eric managed to commit to the 5-6 years of schooling required to teach at the collegiate level, or that, as an adjunct professor, he was tasked with creating his own curriculum on the religion of Star Wars?

11 | Wouldn’t it have been nice to know more about Donna’s writing career? Or anything about what Kelso and Jackie do now (aside from marry and divorce as frequently as most people go grocery shopping)?

12 | Is Kelso’s daughter Betsy still considered canon, or has she been retconned (à la Jerry Garcia Conner and Andy Harris on Roseanne/The Conners)? What about baby mama Brooke (previously played by Shannon Elizabeth, of American Pie fame)?

13 | Couldn’t the writers have come up with another way to break Fez and Jackie up, rather than have Jackie cheat on Fez with Kelso? We barely get any time with Jackie… why leave audiences with a bad taste in their mouths regarding a beloved character?

14 | How is it that Kitty, in July of ’95, managed to get her hands on the Nov. 25, 1995 issue of TV Guide?

15 | Before it was established that Leia was interested in Jay, were you under the impression that Leia wanted to be more than just friends with Gwen?

16 | Doesn’t weed go bad? How high would Leia and her friends get from a decades-old stash that belonged to her dad?

17 | Are Leia and the rest of the new kids supposed to be roughly the same age? When the season starts, Leia is only 14. But Jay supposedly sexed up a ton of girls the summer prior to Leia’s arrival, and Nikki’s studying for the SATs.

18 | Were you impressed by just how well the series managed to recreate the Beverly Hills, 90210 opening credits, with a surprise assist by Brian Austin Green (aka David Silver)?

19 | Is the Leia/Jay/Nate love triangle being set up for a potential Season 2 supposed to resemble the Donna/Eric/Hyde triangle from ’70s Season 1? And did the show do enough to sell Leia and Nate’s potential attraction as the season came to a head?

20 | If Sherri, Gwen and Nate are supposed to live in the old Pinciotti house, why is that the kitchen has a completely different layout now?

21 | If the series is intended to continue, is it realistic that Leia would spend every single summer at her grandparents’ house? Doesn’t she have other friends in her hometown she’d want to spend time with? What do her regular life and circle of friends look like?

22 | What ever happened to Josh Meyers’ Randy? (lol j/k, no one cares!)
