Is there a Season 2 of That '90s Show?
That ’90s Show was renewed for Season 2 in February 2023. Here’s what you can expect when it returns:
It’s 1996 and Leia Forman is back in Point Place for another summer of fun with her friends and grandparents, Kitty and Red. Leia and Jay are excited to be together again after nine months of long distance. But she’s on edge since Jay still doesn’t know she almost kissed Nate. Nate is concerned that his girlfriend, Nikki, doesn’t know either. How long can they keep this secret? Turns out, not long at all. And when the truth finally comes out, relationships are threatened, friendships are at stake, and the summer is on the verge of ending before it even gets started.
Netflix
A split season isn’t so bad when they are 8 episodes each.
I just hope it comes back for season 3 or part 4.
Me too, Netflix needs to bring back shows and create a decent amount of episodes to revisit., especially with comedies.
They can’t. Acting contracts are for 5 years, max. Those are union rules they cannot get around. So, after 5 years, cast expenses SKYROCKET. Typically, on a network or basic cable show, after 5 years, there are typically around 80ish eps in the can. Which is important because of syndication. It typically takes 88 eps to reach syndication, but we’ve seen some shows go into NARROW syndication after 75ish eps. Network shows are typically at or above 100 eps after 5 years.
.
But NF makes 12 ep seasons typically. Maybe 15ish. This after an initial season of 10 eps. So, best case scenario, this show would be at 75ish eps after 5 years. Maybe they sell it into syndication, but NF hasn’t done much of that yet. Usually there are some length/content restrictions.
.
But long running shows are too expensive without syndication money paying for everything. I mean, WB (the producer) lost money on every episode of Friends they sold to NBC for the last 2-3 years. of the show. NBC paid them X per show, and the shows cost 1/2 again or more of that number to produce. Which was fine, because WB was making BILLIONS in syndication. That show ended, like BBT, because one or more of the central actors was leaving, essentially ending the show.
.
NF doesn’t have a river of money in syndication to fall back on. Unless the show is a huge watercooler hit, like Stranger Things, or awards bait, like Marvelous Ms. Maisel (diff platform, but you get my drift), the streamers just cannot leg out long runs of their shows. The finances don’t make sense (or cents).
I would like Randy to come back for an episode. And maybe Christina Moore as Laurie.
We don’t need Randy.
Yes to Christina Moore as Laurie coming back!
I don’t mind a split. Gives me some light summer viewing and then it will return in the fall.
Definitely agree that there should be more eps, but I really did enjoy the first season and will definitely watch. By the end of the season, the show really started to stand on its own and the new characters were good.
Gotta bring back Eric.
I love the contrast between Fez and Torres and would love to see Wilmer back again.
It’d be like a ’90s Three’s Company spin-off with Jack & Chrissy’s 15-year-old son visiting the Santa Monica apartment building to spend time with his “Uncle” Larry. While Jack & Chrissy are mentioned several times, the best you get from guest stars, it’s only Mr. Furley once or twice & “Greedy” Gretchen on every week! WEAK SAUCE! We want high-watt star power… not Red & Kitty or those loser neighbors (and parents to Donna).
Man how times have changed for the worst, the OG 70s show cast were better looking and the guys less doofy.
