8 SIMPLE RULES FOR DATING MY TEENAGE DAUGHTER

Five years after Roseanne‘s original run wrapped, John Goodman was on the short list to play family patriarch Paul Hennessy — until Three’s Company funnyman John Ritter, coming off a series of films/TV-movies, sought a sitcom comeback. “You take John Ritter any time you can get John Ritter,” EP Flody Suarez said at the time. (Goodman would eventually have 8 Simple Rules star Katey Sagal as a TV wife on The Conners.)
im curious if supernatural ever had well known actors whom kripke/the wb wanted to play or who auditioned before jensen and jared
im assuming no cause I havent heard anything in the shows run and ive been following the show since season 6
Nope. They were the only two brought in for in-person auditions. It’s in the special features stuff on the discs.
That certainly makes sense. They both would have built presence and value behind the scenes at the network with their prior roles.
thanks
i wonder also if anyone well known went up for castiel audition
They basically went to the network with only Jensen and Jared.
From what I remember, Jensen was cast as Sam right until Jared auditioned. Then they flipped Jensen to Dean
I think I recall eric kripkes original plan was to have one main character and a show akin to the night stalker but jared coming in changed that and they decided to make a brother aspect.
Sherry as Lorelai – noooo
That’s crazy for The OC that someone got passed on because of their skin condition. Usually shows don’t start filming immediately. If they liked him that much couldn’t they have gotten him a good dermatologist and esthetician to help?
Or they could have just realized that acne is something actual teenagers have to deal with and decide against such a shallow and stupid decision…
In the early 2000s, you’d be hard pressed to find the resident heartthrob at a high school who also had bad acne. He wouldn’t have been the heartthrob. That’s just reality, as shallow as it was.
That’s still the case today, many might not admit it but they definitely think it, that’s the only difference.
Some of these would’ve been great to see. Others I can’t imagine at all
I wonder why the O.C. casting director thought it was necessary to share that story about Chris Pine.
public interest
I mean, it’s interesting to know he auditioned.
And if you tell a story about how you didn’t cast Chris Pine in your show, the you really need to explain why.
It is interesting, but I don’t think it was necessary to share an embarrassing story about Chris Pine that became click bait about his skin condition.
I think any embarrassment should be somewhat muted by at least two things. One, Chris Pine is having a fine acting career. Two, he’s 41 years old now, and “The O.C.” first aired in fall 2003. He would have likely auditioned at least 20 years ago and been at most 21 years old at the time.
If Ashlee was Elena that would’ve been horrible
Word.
Ackles and Levy as Clark and Lex would have been ‘something’… but I don’t think the show would have lasted as long (for better or worse)
I always love the ‘they weren’t right for the part, so we wrote this other character for them’ stories, or at least put them into other existing roles.
Alden Ehrenreich wore lifts in “Solo,” and Ackles was about 6-8 inches shorter than Welling. Ahh, little pocket actors.
Jensen Ackles is 6’1 and Tom Welling is 6’3
Not sure where you’re getting your very inaccurate info from but Ackles is 6’1
8 Simple Rules: I love the quote about John Ritter. Very true. He was the best.
Friends: I like Tiffani (Amber) Thiessen, but Jennifer Aniston WAS Rachel Green. I can’t imagine anyone else playing her.
Lost: Cobie Smulders would’ve killed it as Kate Austen. But both Evangeline Lilly and Cobie played the characters they were meant to play. Evangeline as badass Kate. And Cobie as our beloved, iconic Robin Scherbatsky/Robin Sparkles.
These stars would have made for completely different shows. Some of them I wouldn’t have minded but for others there’s just no one else that could have played them other than the actor that got the role.
The only time where I honestly see how either actor could easily have filled the role is in Family Ties, and I’m glad that Michael J. Fox got that opportunity. Matthew Broderick didn’t have a problem finding films to star in & managed to do quite well for himself.
Friends, tho, I totally don’t see Tiffani as Rachel Green. Jennifer Aniston made it her own. I guess I just can’t imagine somebody else in the role.
And, personally, I thought Ammick’s comment re Gilmore Girls sounded a bit petty as Lauren Graham certainly didn’t look “motherly”; she looked like a woman who gave birth at age 16 (something like that). And then who looked really good for beg. ‘30s.
Julianna Margulies need not worry about how she got the role in The Good Wife bc she kicked it out of the park; same as her role on ER.
I absolutely don’t see anybody else playing Abby Sciuto other than Pauley P. on NCIS.
And, for the life of me, I honestly don’t understand why Lisa Edelstein cares about the Sex and the City role. Her role on House was so much better than that of Cassie on SATC. I mean, SJP made the most of the role, but that had more to do with her as an actress than the writing on the show itself.
And Benedict Cumberbatch in True Blood? After all of the smart, intellectual roles that he’s played? I’m not saying he couldn’t do it. He could do pretty much anything — he’s an amazing actor!! But it just isn’t him. (Of course, I don’t see him as a villain in a Star Trek film either, so. My opinion doesn’t mean all that much.)
Like I first said, the actors who ended up w the roles made the characters so memorable that it’s almost impossible to see another actor playing that person. Except for Family Ties & the story that led me here — Justin Timberlake playing Schue on Glee. That would have been SO MUCH BETTER!! But you get what you get. And I was thrilled w MJF in Family Ties. Had my second big tv crush on him that lasted for quite a while. And he switched me over from Tom Selleck in Magnum which shows that I apparently don’t have an exact type but that MJF has charisma to spare!!
Does lucifer’s dan count, in lucifer dan was first played by Nicholas Gonzalez in an unaired pilot but got replaced by Kevin Alejandro, when the show actually aired but kevin is really funny specially lucifer is messing with him
That would be for the list of Roles Recast Before the Premiere:

The Vampire Diaries lasted longer but Hellcats was the better show. Talk about a show that deserved at least 3 seasons.
Aly Michalka and Taylor Momsen almost played Hannah Montana.
we got saved, Ashanti as Vixen would have been horrible!
Regarding Grays Anatomy, Wow, I would have LOVED the original actors they wanted for Grays Anatomy. I never much cared for Sandra Oh and Patrick Dempsey was why I never watched the show regularly. Sometimes you wonder what they were thinking when they cast who they cast.
I bet no one remembers that Caity Lotz was actually the second actress to play Sarah Lance. In the pilot episode when Sarah was on the Queen’s Gambit when it sank the role was played by Jacqueline MacInnes Wood…who plays Steffy Forrester on Bold and the Beautiful.
Hard to imagine anyone but Pauley Perrette playing Abby on NCIS
Nicholas Gonzalez playing Justin Baldoni’s part is something I would’ve loved to see. No shade/offense but I find Nicholas more attractive.
In an alternate universe Jensen Ackles was Clark Kent and Zachary Levi was Lex Luther and I think that’s absolutely amazing. I would have loved to see them together like that.
These stories are always so much fun, and I especially like the ones where they end up writing a role for someone they loved but didn’t get the part.
Which… I apparently also said when this was posted a year ago… hooray for consistency!
Lisa Edelstein as Carrie Bradshaw??? Hmmm, this would be interesting…
But, when will they cast for the long awaited Bewitched tv show? Yes, it seems trying to locate a cast as talented as the original (Elizabeth Montgomery’s Samantha, Agnes Moorehead’s Endora, Paul Lynde’s Uncle Arthur, Alice Pearce’s Gladys Kravitz, Dick York’s Darrin Stephens, well, you get the idea. So many different times we’ve been teased that it would come to fruition, but nope.
I love Pascal but there is only one Marcel Gerard! Charles Michael Davis!
When I read the headline, my mind instantly went to a change which altered the course of a recently canceled series. When originally announced, SO HELP ME TODD was supposed to star Geena Davis instead of Marcia Gay Harden as Margaret Wright. Whether she opted out because she didn’t want to do it or thought there was a chance that her long line of short-lived series would be extended, I’ll confess to watching most of season one imagining what would have been different had she taken the role. Would she have attracted a larger audience in season 2 and avoided an early cancellation? We’ll never know.
