TVLINE | Looking back on the episode, is there anything that you would’ve done differently or changed? Or are you pretty satisfied with the way it ended?
Well, it’s probably a two-part answer. We did not know the fate of the show when we wrote the finale. I wrote the finale with Blythe Ann Johnson. We did know, as always, things are uncertain, and so we tried to, as always, write a cliffhanger, write some twists, leave some threads for an upcoming season. We were given the chance, a little bit into either the prep or the filming of the finale, to change anything, just in case, and we did not yet know the fate of the show. So it was sort of like a gamble, and I wrestled with that decision for many days, and talked to the writers, and talked to the producers and to Jared [Padalecki] about what we should do, if anything, and basically, ultimately, we didn’t want to insert a last-minute scene that would sum everything up. It’s 42 minutes of television. We didn’t want to summarize a whole series in one scene, or a few changed lines, or anything like that. So we, ultimately, decided to leave it as it was, which was a tough decision, but I still feel like it’s a good finale. It’s satisfying in many ways. It does not tell the full tale. This show was supposed to go on for 10 years, in my brain, and so, it doesn’t sum up everything, but I didn’t want to rush it, if that makes sense.
TVLINE | You still get a sense of where these characters are going to end up, even though we don’t actually see it.
One thing we did get The CW to agree to, which I’m super grateful for, [is] we do have an extended finale by a few minutes, which is a huge deal in terms of scenes, because there were scenes that we had cut that we put back in, which was huge. So we do have that closure, and everyone is in a good place. When I was discussing the finale with our producer/director, Steve Robin, who I adore, we were talking about like, “It’s a good finale, but is it the-lights-off-at-Cheers?” which is, for a certain age group, like the ultimate finale. [Laughs] And it’s not the-lights-off-at-Cheers because I wasn’t prepared for the end. Had I known I had been writing for the end, I would’ve taken the whole fifth season and really written to the end. But I don’t feel like the characters have been robbed.
James Van Der Beek would have been a great addition to the show ahhh. Really sucks that the show is ending but glad it had a good send off. Never would’ve thought a show about Texas Rangers would become my fave show but here we are. Last CW show I will watch and I have been watching since the network was created.
That last-minute twist at the end with James Van Der Beek sounds like it would have been fun to see, but unfortunately, The CW Providence (Rhode Island) apparently didn’t know or care that the episode was going to run long, and cut to black at exactly 9pm Eastern. So we saw legs clad in white and then uh.. NOTHING. Like a Sopranos ending? Ugh.
Oh, well, otherwise, it was a good series finale. I’m going to miss this show.
Same here in Albany, NY. The Screen went Blank after they were singing in the car and Bobby came back on at the very end. Not Happy
So many great ideas for Season 5! I’m going to miss Walker even more, now. But, it was a great finale and yes, everyone was in a good place, so I’m glad about that. Best wishes to the cast and crew wherever their roads take them.
I take it that the final scene did not end with Stella while siting in the pickup with her brother Walker & Geri commenting on the new people driving by toward the Davidson’s house then the screen just goes black for several minutes then green for a while then starts the follow on CW TV show.
What happened in those final minutes when the screen went black?
They commented on the new neighbors, and maybe actually getting along with someone living on Davidson land (although seemed to think it was unlikely). Stella asked if she could turn on some music. Sure. And they drove off. We picked up with the pickup truck they’d seen drive by pulling up to the Walker house. We see the leg of a man wearing baggy cream-colored linen pants and strappy sandals step out of the truck. He see hands holding a basket filled with soaps showing that the whole outfit is very loose-fitting linen. He pulls one soap out and weighs down a card that says, “Sorry we missed you neighbor.” Camera pans up and we see Van der Beek is looking like a yogi or something walking back toward the truck.
I was about to give up on the show because I just constant the character, Stella.
I think the show was canceled mostly due to costs of the actors, since there were so many of them.
I would have been happy with Cordell, Geri, Cassie, and maybe August. The rest of the cast wasn’t needed or very interesting, to me. Just my opinion.
That was supposed to say, can’t stand instead of constant. Lol
Our local station for some reason mess up the last 3 minutes and showed just a black screen
So did mine,I thought it was my tv.glade it wasn’t then came back after the ending.
I Really love this Excellent show!!!! Hope it Continues on !! Love All the Actors!!
Just out of curiosity, was Chuck Norris ever contacted about at least making a cameo. I mean was anything done on the show to honor the original series or did they pretty much let the past stay.
The storylines were ok, but the way the main characters changed the way they spoke. They couldn’t say a sentence without pauses. First it was Jared then his Dad, brother, & Captain. I am from Texas and we do not talk that way. Very annoying & for me it interrupted the flow of them carrying on a conversation!
It made it very difficult to watch imo also. I would have enjoyed the last couple of seasons a lot more if they didn’t have the broken speech pattern. I don’t understand the reasoning for it.
My tv also went black,to find out it wasn’t, then it comes back with the credits rolling missed finding out who the person in white was.Wish there was a season 5.
Will miss this show and the people in it. Been a fan from beginning. Here’s to a season 5…. Someday.
I found this last episode very boring. I really enjoyed this show at first but when Micki (Lindsey Morgan) left it really lost some appeal and I just never warmed up to her replacement. I just found Cassie to be very silly and immature which for a Texas Ranger really turned me off. Sorry, but it is what it is.
I was a loyal watcher of all four seasons, and enjoyed most of the episodes. For me, the big plot hole was the fact that Stella was never held accountable for aiding and abetting the theft of the jewelry from the UCAS museum show. Including that she basically lured a presumably “retired” thief back to do the theft. It was all well and good that her family forgave her for her lies, but she apparently was still lying since no mention was made of legal ramifications of her actions.
I loved the show. I am so sad that Walker was cancelled after 4 seasons. A lot of action scenes which were awesome. It is CW’s loss
Very disappointed the show ended. Such good storylines and great dynamics between characters.
Too bad the channel glitched and Atlanta watchers missed James introduction to the show.
I luvd Walker and Walker Independence. They both had legs to grow and I feel its a real shame that both shows have been cancelled. Totally wrong as so many of the good shows are stopping, like Bluebloods and the like. The reduction of decent shows on air is unfair to the public who watch these shows..
Luna died for dramatic effect? Terrible dramatic effect. Such a disappointment. As said on here, why bring on such a great character & have him die, it was an unnecessary death just for the sake of someone dying. The saddest I have seen & nothing Fricke can say is going to make the fans feel any different. If the show cared about what the fans wanted, Cassie & Luna wd have hd a happy ending. Per Collider Cassie deserved a better ending. Fans were excited that per Justin and Fricke that he wd b reoccurring & have ties to Calian. I was more excited to watch each week with Cassie/Luna & he brought a lot to the show as a detective. So many great stories that cd have been told, Cassie/Luna romance, Calian ties & Hoyt’s daughter, Luna becoming a part of the Walker family. Everyone was not in a good place and hopeful, Cassie getting a promotion cd not heal her grief in 2 episodes. I have not been able to watch the last 2. If they had the option to make changes, after the fans were so upset over Luna it cd have been changed. I wd have wanted more than him being a ghost and none of this was funny. Fricke is talented, but missed the mark on that episode. All the other episodes with Cassie/Luna were written by other writers & were great, but Let’s go, hd so many left out details & his death was the worst part. Not so sure I wd have watched season 5 w/o Luna. If fir some reason down the road there is some kind of Walker please have Cassie waking up from a bad dream & Luna is with her.
