Jamie and Sarah Have John Murdered
In Season 5A’s finale (recapped here), the black sheep of the Dutton family became so convinced that his twisted sister was going to have him killed that he and his Machiavellian girlfriend set in motion a plot to have Beth taken out first — and, with her, John. Jamie needn’t worry about being implicated, either, Sarah assured him. Thanks to the professionalism of the company whose services she’d retain, “it’ll look like a heart attack or car accident.”
He tells everyone “I have to go now. My planet needs me” and floats off to space. Then we get a note saying he died on his way back to his home planet.
He flies to D.C. to take a meeting with the Secretary of the Interior…and the plane vanishes. The series ends with the mystery unresolved.
That makes sense. It could be an off-hand remark at the beginning: “Where’s John?” and Beth says, “He flew to DC.” Then the show goes on, and later they hear the bad news. I don’t want it to happen, but if it has to, let it be a mystery.
Didn’t they do something similar with Jock Iin Dallas after the actor died? Kept the character off-screen for a while, then found the wreck of the plane and confirmed him dead.
Let John stay alive and kill Jame off.
My question is how I’m going to write Yellowstone off.
It would be hilarious if they’re just winding us up.
Not sure about that, BUT I highly doubt he is killed off.
This would backfire severely. The switcheroo Kevin Can Wait tried to pull off was part of the reason the show didn’t make it past a second a season. Even amidst her still being crazy online, a lot of people are still sour about what The Conners did to Roseanne. No matter who was in the wrong in the Sheridan/Costner situation, they’d look like the bad guys if they killed him off immediately as soon as Season 5B premieres.
I also think they want to leave the door open for an appearance in the series finale or down the road in one of the spinoffs. Did anyone think Andrew Lincoln would return to The Walking Dead universe? Charlie Sheen was willing to return for the Two and a Half Men finale and I think it is safe to say that was a crazier exit than this one. I think Costner is smart enough to realize that in five years when there’s Yellowstone Spinoff #3 on Paramount+ he could make a quick million bucks for a brief appearance.
At the rate he’s going he’ll need the money, too.
He will go out the way Judy Winslow went out.
It doesn’t really matter to me how they write him out. I feel that since this will be a series finale and not a season finale, it will bring a fitting ending to the show.
The entire show has been about John protecting his ranch to pass on to his children. Well, now we will find out what happens when he IS gone and his children fight about what will happen to his land.
I just hope they don’t sell it to the developers. THAT would be a very bad ending.

So he never was going to be in season 5b.
Hate to break it to you, but scripts have been known to be rewritten.
His people claim he finished 5 scripts… there’s a big difference. And they have several reasons to bend the truth, don’t they?
Ya know the actor that plays young John Dutton. You know on the flash backs for Rips back story. Replace Costner with him and continue the story. Sheridan is the story, he created the characters. We need a John Dutton not at Kevin Costner. If John dies, the ranch is spread too thin financially to weather probate and inheritance taxes. Remember when Beth spoke to a local ranch that was their own distributor online for beef…”all you need is a place to process and a web site” 8 billion pounds or dollars was it. Would like to see the show go back to figuring out how to make it work. I think it will be different but the same. Hey Mr. Sheridan I think you could figure it out uniquely Yellowstone, give us a new John and good story…we will watch.

Perhaps, Sheridan could do to Costner what Lorre did to Sheen with a vanity card showing at the end of the credits for Yellowstone.
Hate to see the Yellowstone saga end…loved John, Rip, Casey and Beth.
No matter the “end” of John, just happy to hear, FINALLY an ending!! Been way too long.

It may seem inconceivable, but he could be recast. It would serve Costner right. He’s done a lot of stuff, some good, some terrible but this is probably what he will be most remembered for in his career.
I think it is more likely that they ff a little in time and John has died of what appears to be natural causes but was really a murder. The mystery builds as the season goes on and we eventually find out which of his many enemies it is at the end.

It’s a dark, moonless night in Montana as Governor Dutton’s driver navigates a state road, anxious to deliver the Governor to his family’s ranch. Dutton has been in a foul mood on the trip from Helena, so silence has largely reigned.
“Jim, what the hell is THAT?!”, exclaimed Dutton, looking out the window into the sky.
An object half the size of a football field was in the distance, closing rapidly on their location. It glowed from beneath, a soft pale green.
“I don’t know, sir, but we aren’t sticking around to find out!” As he gunned the engine, all power to the vehicle shut off, rolling to a slow stop. The silence was palpable.
The craft they had spotted settled to the ground beside the highway. Jim and Dutton looked on in shock as a large door opened in the side of the ship and something definitely not human stepped out into the night.

With the drama, whatever really happened, I have no doubt in my mind that Sheridan is going to kill the character. brutally.
Johns priority all along has been keeping ranch in the family and honoring his ancestors. Hope they stay true to his character and would love for him to pass at location where his father passed, but apparently that’s not something we’ll see. Would also love to see a final scene between John and Beth. A sweet touching scene that expresses Beth’s continued devotion to her father, that could be a monologue I guess. Kevin Costner should’ve finished rest of season, his fans deserved closure.
All the behind the scenes has been a huge distraction. Not sure i care what happens to John Dutton.
Just want to see a decent ending. Maybe John Dutton should go the way of lug-nut boy……just disappear and no one notices. I do think Kevin Costner should have made a bigger effort to finish out the show. Hope his movie doesn’t bomb but it’s getting terrible reviews…and it has 3 more parts! Taylor Sheridan should have had the season 5 part 2 scripts done in a timely fashion though. Two huge egos screwed it up.
Kevin Costner is my favorite actor. I have loved him in every film he has made. I am an elderly southern lady of 83. But a young 83. Lol. He has certainly made his mark as a wonderful actor. I would love to be his housekeeper. Simply because I like his demeanor.Kevin and Denzel Washington are the tops.
Maybe he should run for President of our USA…..
To be honest, I don’t even care anymore. It was a great show from day one until everything and everyone, fell apart. As far as I’m concerned the show ended with Season 5. Taylor Sheridan and Kevin Costner came up with a fantastic, well scripted, show with great talented actors. Together to me, they stomped it into the ground. I just got to the point where I didn’t ever want to hear the name of the show again.
I think Jamie’s psycho bed buddy hire contractors to take out John and Beth, But it will be John’s new veggie girlfriend in the car. Beth and Rip take out Jamie and his side meat. Beth has made millions she could keep the ranch from going under and give it to Kasey. Beth and Rip ride off into the sunset buying a nice little peace of land for her man to have some nice horses or start his own ranch and their boy or might as well be have a nice private life she deserves. I know she said she’d sell for the highest bidder but she love Kayce and Monica and their son and it’ll merge with Indians to keep it safe

I think Jamie’s girlfriend should have John thrown off that death cliff.
It really SUCKS that he will not be finishing out the show for whatever reason.
He should probably end up at the Train Station….
