Given the writers’ and actors’ strikes, it’s anyone’s guess when Yellowstone will even start production on the back half of its fifth and final season. Yet already, the vultures have begun to circle overhead.
It’s understandable when you think about it. The midseason finale ended with Dutton patriarch John and wild-child daughter Beth plotting to do away with black sheep of the family Jamie. He, in turn, was conspiring with girlfriend Sarah Atwood to have his father and sister meet an unfortunate “accident.” (Read the recap here.) So as soon as the cameras roll, so will heads. The question is, whose?
The Paramount Network hit proved to us long ago that no one is safe. (Right, Lee?) And with the show not going on, literally anybody could be bumped off. Below, we’ve rustled up a list of the characters that seem likeliest to kick the bucket, whether because they’re in that… much… danger or because their passing would have the greatest dramatic impact.

Yellowstone co-creator Taylor Sheridan has said that “I don’t do f–k-you car crashes.” Nonetheless, taking into consideration the alleged “issues” that preceded the series’ surprise cancellation at the height of its popularity — as well as the fact that John has already survived colon cancer, a perforated ulcer and a shooting — he’s almost guaranteed to fall victim to Jamie and Sarah’s murder plot.
Given that Sheridan has all but confirmed that the new Yellowstone spinoff won’t include any of the show’s current cast, we can’t write off the possibility that Kelly Reilly’s breakout character will be killed in the same hit that takes out her old man. However, should the series co-creator choose to leave his options open where she’s concerned, he could instead take out…
Throughout the run of the series, all roads have been leading Beth’s true love to the train station. All we’re left to wonder now is, will the toughest of tough guys reach his final destination after saving his better half from Jamie’s attempt on her life… or will he get there after learning why she can’t have children of her own and sending to his grave…
No way can Sheridan let Yellowstone ride off into the sunset without playing the fallout from Rip finding out that Jamie OK’d Beth’s sterilization when she was a pregnant teen. And (almost) no way can that fallout not result in Rip making his brother-in-law glad that he can only croak once. At least Wes Bentley is braced for it. “We’re always ready to die,” he previously told TVLine.
Never mind that John’s youngest son told wife Monica after his Season 4 vision quest that he had seen “the end of us.” The couple has already been through so much, from son Tate’s abduction to the loss of his baby brother, that we suspect Sheridan is going to give Kayce and his embattled loved ones, if not a happy ending, at least a happy-ish one.
As smart as he is, the chief of the Broken Rock Reservation is probably already sleeping with one eye open, what with conniving Angela Blue Thunder hell-bent on seeing him removed from his seat of power. Should she fail to get him voted out, she could easily decide to have him, ahem, taken out. Ruthless as she is, we wouldn’t put it past her. Would you?
If Sheridan wants to tug at our heartstrings, the surest way might just be to send the ranch’s oldest hand out for his last roundup. Nobody’s gunning for young Carter’s mentor — that we know of, anyway — but that doesn’t mean that he couldn’t take a fatal spill off his horse or get caught in the crossfire of the murder plots that John and Jamie are hatching.
When Beth discovered that Jamie had a son, she warned that the next time he saw the baby, he should kiss him goodbye… then seemed to forget all about it. If she remembers her threat and seeks to make good on it by having the boy kidnapped before rubbing out Jamie, a single misstep on the part of the abductor could result in an unspeakable tragedy.
Since Emily’s fiancé survived not one but two devastating falls while pursuing an ill-advised career as a bronc rider, we’re going to go out on a limb and guess that at this point he’s indestructible. Plus, he’s hanging his hat at the Four Sixes in Texas now; if somebody’s getting buried, it’s likelier to be somebody who is a lot closer to home.
Monica -5000% chance of dying. That poor woman has seen so much physical trauma, but always bounces back.
I want her to die. Slowly. Painfully. Horribly. She is the whiniest person on the show.

Let’s just think about Jamie dying and Beth is given the opportunity to adopt Jamie’s son, since she is his only closest relative?
I may be in the minority here. But I think Beth’s hatred for Jamie is unjustified. He was a scared teenager and didn’t know what to do. The real culprits are the docs on the reservation that were castrating women. She didn’t want to go to a Planned Parenthood because she feared that her dad might find out. What other option is there?

Jamie knew what he was doing when he took Beth. He went inside (alone). The receptionist told him, POINT BLAME, what would happen. He thought for a minute and made the decision to do it anyway!! We knew, LONG BEFORE, they showed us what happened that he was a weasel!!!🤔 He’s the one that needs to be killed off.🔪 I, for one, would be pleased with that decision! 🤪 He’s such a wimpy character!
I believe the point is that at that age and being as scared as he was did he really understand the consequences of what was going to happen? Do you really think he was so full of hate at the time that he intentionally did this to his young sister knowing full well that it would haunt her for the rest of her life. I think not.
They both need to be killed off. Beth is to be blamed equally she made the decision to abort her child and Jaime helped her find clinic. They are both teenagers then. The doctor/nurse are as much responsible as well while they talked to Jaime about what would the outcome of the abortion, they should have also talked to the “teenage girl, Beth” of her options. But it is a movie…so.
I 100% agree. Her hated of Jamie is a bit extreme considering they were both so young and naïve. But she uses it to justify her own guilt. I believe she knows that what happened wasn’t entirely Jamie’s fault.
I totally agree with you! Beth is to blame herself first for thinking of aborting the baby then displacing her anger to Jaime who trees to help her. She is so psycho!!

I believe Yellowstone is over. When Sheriden pulled the stunt he did, people, at least all the ones I know have totally lost interest in not only Yellowstone but we don’t watch any of Sheriden’s work now.
I have been a faithful Yellowstone fan from day one, watched all the rerun marathons, etc. but won’t even watch the last one, knowing how vindictive Sheriden is, he will make it a ‘get even’ thing so I’ll pass.
Loved all the characters and will watch them in any future films, just not Sheriden’s work.

On thing is certain for me, if Taylor Sheridan doesn’t finish out Season 5, I’ll never ever watch another of his productions!!! And if Rip doesn’t return, another reason for me to never ever watch another Taylor Sheridan’s productions.

Kayce is almost a shoe in as he self actualizes as the worst person. Lloyd will rpobably die and John is all but confirmed. I think Tate gets the Y in the end and Rainwater will step in as a mentor out of respect for John to preserve the ranch. But Tate will promise that after his (Tate’s) passing the ranch will become part of the Res. Fulfilling the 5 generation promise made in 1883.
Jamie will leave Montana and never look back (only after John dies)
I really hope J D dies in the first episode and we get a 1 or 2 year time jump to show how ervery one is dealing with it.
I think we’re looking at a full on blood bath.
I worry that Beth’s pure over the top hatred for Jamie will result in Jamie jnr and rips deaths and the two of them either killing each other in retaliation and revenge

I feel that Yellowstone became a hit because Costner’s name brought the audience and they stayed because they loved the cast. Dance with the one that brought you. My opinion.

I think you should leave it alone the public wants more. Why not pick up where you left off and go from there. It’s all there willing ready and able. It go on and on. There is no limit on how you can do it. Smart thing to do bd and money making.

Just kill John & Jamie at the end of the season. Then do Season 6 with a long lost older cousin coming to the ranch to replace John.
Keep this once in a generation great series going. Replace Kevin Costner with Sam Elliott, Nicholas Cage,Mel Gibson,Tommy Flanagan, Jason Clarke, Adrien Brody, or some other great actor
