Joe Goldberg is ready to take another stab — sorry, bite — out of the Big Apple. Netflix on Monday announced that YOU‘s fifth and final season has officially entered production, commemorating the occasion with a first-look photo of Penn Badgley‘s clean-shaven killer walking the New York City streets once again.
Of course, Joe ditching his beard isn’t the only major development to occur ahead of Season 5. Netflix recently confirmed several new additions to the cast, including Joe’s “enigmatic” new female co-worker (with an extremely intriguing name); Joe’s twin sisters-in-law, played by a single (and very familiar) actress; and Joe’s “snarky yet loyal” brother-in-law.
You may recall that YOU’s fourth season relocated Joe to London, where he started over as a college professor named Jonathan Moore after faking his own death. But old habits die hard, unlike so many of Joe’s previous victims, so it wasn’t long before he fell back into his murderous ways. And now, after finding love with a British trust fund baby, he’s back in New York City for one last hurrah.
Joe’s return from the “dead” could also bring some familiar faces out of the woodwork; anyone from Ellie (Jenna Ortega) to Dr. Nicky (John Stamos) could theoretically make an appearance in the final season.
“We have kept scrupulous track of everybody who knows anything about Joe who’s not dead,” then-showrunner Sera Gamble told TVLine at the end of Season 4, clarifying that “the ones who are dead could still appear in dreams and hallucinations.” As she put it, “There are some very smart people who are alive. Some of them are in jail, and some of them are basically in witness protection, but there’s no reason to believe he’s safe.”

Though Netflix has not announced an official release date, YOU‘s final season is expected to stream sometime in 2024. It’s also not yet known whether the season will be released collectively or as two separate parts.
Joe may still be in a committed relationship with Kate (Charlotte Ritchie), but since when has that stopped him from admiring another woman from afar? Or, you know, from way too close?
Enter Madeline Brewer as Bronte, described as an “enigmatic and free-spirited playwright who comes to work at Joe Goldberg’s new bookstore.”
Prepare for trouble, and make it double: Anna Camp (True Blood) will appear in the dual roles of Reagan and Maddie Lockwood, Joe’s twin sisters-in-law, while Griffin Matthews (The Flight Attendant) will play Joe’s “snarky yet loyal” brother-in-law Teddy Lockwood
I don’t think it counts as “clean-shaven” when he has a very visible stubble. I believe “beardless” is what you were looking for.
Bring back Ethan! I know the actor is busy on Severance, but I’d like to see him make an appearance in the final season.
