No emergency here: 9-1-1 has been renewed for Season 8 at ABC, TVLine has learned.
On March 14, the former Fox procedural made its ABC debut to 4.9 million total viewers (in Live+Same Day), which marked a 5% increase on the first responders drama’s previous average. The audience proceeded to grow each of the following two weeks, to 5.4 million and 5.5 million — with the latter tally veritably matching the show’s largest audience since its May 2021 Season 4 finale.
Amongst all ABC entertainment programing airing this TV Season, 9-1-1 stands as the network’s most-watched series while trailing only The Bachelor, Dancing With the Stars and The Golden Bachelor in the demo (with a 0.56 demo rating).
9-1-1 stars Angela Bassett as Athena Grant, Peter Krause as Bobby Nash, Oliver Stark as Evan “Buck” Buckley, Aisha Hinds as Henrietta “Hen” Wilson, Kenneth Choi as Howie “Chimney” Han, Ryan Guzman as Eddie Diaz, Gavin McHugh as Christopher Diaz and Jennifer Love Hewitt as Maddie Buckley.
New episodes of 9-1-1 air Thursdays at 8/7c on ABC, leading into new episodes of Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19. The show’s 100th episode, airing April 4, features a crossover with The Bachelor, as members of the 118 respond to an emergency at the reality show’s iconic mansion.

I feel like with the ratings increase from Fox to ABC they should move Lone Star over to ABC for the fall as well so they can keep them on the same network.
Yeah I wonder if there is a possibility of the move. 911/Lone Star/ followed by grey’s would make a good Thursday for abc.
No. Moving Grey’s to 10 would be nonsense. They’d sooner cancel it.
Fox needs to cancel it before that can happen… contacts and stuff…
I stopped watching Lone Star. It only really revolves around Rob Lowe and it got really annoying.
Instead of moving 9-1-1 Lonestar to ABC, I actually think it makes a lot more sense to create a new 9-1-1 spinoff for ABC. It’s already a tall order to get new viewers in for a show in It’s 7th season. To expect new viewers to tune into a spinoff that’s in it’s 5th season is too much of an ask (and also… 9-1-1 LS just isn’t as good or engaging as the mothership). It’d be pretty cool to see 9-1-1 Hawaii or 9-1-1 NY… and you could even have TK and Carlos from Lonestar and maybe 1x character from 9-1-1 as leads on *that* ABC spinoff.
No shock here… it’s as good as ever… not sure why FOX let it get away… This show does high concept disasters better than anything including many movies.
The show is produced by 20th Television, a.k.a. Disney. Fox TV (NOT owned by Disney) was buying it from 20th Television. So it cost Fox more to keep than it costs Disney to make it and keep it on their own network (ABC).
Guess they wanted to get the renewal out of the way before the ratings tank with the upcoming “Batchelor” sellout episode?
So the ratings will tank with a humorous crossover episode with one of ABC’s highest ranked shows, The Bachelor (note the spelling). I don’t watch the Bachelor and have no issue. If you’ve seen the promos, the crossover looks fun. It could have been a fake reality show and you wouldn’t have complained. Odd. And I’ll say it right hear, I bet the ratings are the highest of the season.
*here
I will gladly take that bet. I think the poster you were responding to is being a bit overdramatic, but no way the ratings don’t slide tonight now that the highly-publicized 3-episode event has concluded. so venmo or cashapp?
need to renew the rookie now
i am so flippin pumped! ABC did such a good job promoting the show for its current season, better than Fox ever did. and it paid off. plus; i have feel like they still have many more stories to tell, so i am relieved and excited!
That’s reallyy good news. Are the disasters over the top? Of course. But is it entertaining? Abso-freaking-lutely. And Bobby and Athena? Most badass couple ever.
And 99% of the emergencies are based on real scenarios. I won a bet with my brother about the girl who stuck her head in the truck tailpipe. He was like no way did that really happen. It did!
Emergency! did the same thing — almost every one of the rescues depicted in the series was based on a rescue that had happened in real life.
Amazing but well deserved! Fox was so foolish – if they just would have responded to the terrible writers & showrunner! Go Tim!!!
Thats great news that 911 is being renewed it’s a great show with lots of action you are always at the end of your seat wondering what’s next
Love this show!!!!agree!!!
I wish they had not canceled Station 19. I have to wonder if 911 was the reason.
Could you and everyone else who watches Station 19 please STOP blaming 9-1-1 for the cancellation? First things first, this article is about 9-1-1 and their renewal for an 8th season, therefore it’s kind of rude and disrespectful of you to post about another show, any show, not just 9-1-1 on it and include your negativity. Second, Station 19 has ALREADY been CANCELLED which means it’s time for the show’s viewers to just accept it and move on. Third and finally, 9-1-1’s ratings speak for themselves so please just enjoy the last few episodes of Station 19 and stop adding these types of comments on 9-1-1 articles.
If your goal was to be even more rude and disrespectful, you achieved it. Living the dream for sure.
My response wasn’t rude or disrespectful it was factual.
This is a discussion forum and it’s not rude or disrespectful to express an opinion just because it’s different from yours or you don’t like it. Many articles have attributed Station 19’s cancellation to ABC acquiring 911 — maybe you need to develop a thicker skin and understand that people can comment on what they want.
Here’s the issue with your response. While it’s true this is an open forum and people can comment, the article itself is about 9-1-1’s season 8 renewal not Station 19’s cancelation. If I recall correctly, there have been plenty of articles about it being canceled but there weren’t any direct correlations between the two events. 9-1-1 was canceled by FOX but ABC picked it up but it was announced Station 19 was being canceled by ABC and it wasn’t picked up by another network and that’s not on 9-1-1.
–
My response was directed to the person who indicated they wondered if the reason for the cancelation of Station 19 was because ABC picked up 9-1-1. It’s been explained numerous times that Shondaland productions has a new deal and apparently Shonda Rhimes thanked Station 19’s cast and crew for their hard work. She’s moved on and it appears the actors and actresses on the show are beginning to do the same. But blaming a more successful show for another’s demise is counterproductive and there comes a time when it’s appropriate to accept the decison isn’t going to change. A good fight was fought but in the end; it’s best to know when it’s over. The show made it to seven seasons while there are others that didn’t or haven’t made it past one or two. The ratings and demos speak for themselves and that’s where the frustration should be directed not at 9-1-1 or the congratulatory articles about it’s success.
If it were, it was a good reason. It does much better in the ratings, and, unlike Station 19, it sells well overseas.
This is fantastic! Well done ABC!
As a first-time viewer of the show, I’m really enjoying it. So glad it’s been renewed.
Glad it’s been renewed and hopefully, Tim Minear will NOT go back to Lone Star and leave OG in the hands of Kristen Riedel🙄. If someone has to go back to FOX, please send her over there instead so she can work on Lowen Star because she’s great at focusing on only one character. Tim is the showrunner and since he’s been back in the showrunner seat, 9-1-1 has exceeded it’s per episode viewership for the last two seasons so if he has to go, please for the love of all things that are continuity and storyline related, promote Juan Carlos Coto to be the co-showrunner. No one wants to see repeats of seasons 5 and 6 ever again.
__
Tim, if you’re reading these comments, please save the viewers from Kristen and leave the show in the hands of someone who knows and appreciates OG’s characters. Also, please choose someone who is NOT fixated on only one character (BUCK) while sidelining the rest. This show has an awesome ensemble cast and I for one don’t want to see any of them get the short end of the stick while Buck’s storylines continue to go in circles. Finally, 9-1-1 doesn’t feel like “The Buck Show” anymore and that’s great so let’s not lose that momentum.
It’s always Bern a great show from the suspense side of itvto the funny side. I’m actually hoping they do a crossover with the rookie since they are in the same place
Love the action mixed with family interaction
Keep up the great work 👍 👏 💪 👌
I never watched this show when it was on FOX. I started seeing so much promo time on ABC that I decided to watch the season 7 premiere, and I was hooked. Now I’m binging all the previous seasons on Hulu. Thanks ABC!
Why? They already had cross overs (which are a tool to attempt to transfer viewership from one higher rated show to another) and Lone Star can stand on its own now. The storylines aren’t connected. 911 was too expensive for Fox, but that is still a network that needs to air something (for the time being at least).
WOO HOO..
I knew it! Fantastic! This is why they Dropped STATION 19 – this is the better First Responder Show – Sorry fans.
Station 19 is much more than a first responder show.
A new show should be placed after 9-1-1 and help it thrive. Greys should end the night.
And the reign on “ABC Begins!!!”🤭
Great enjoy it 100%
I don’t remember 9-1-1 being renewed this fast on FOX. We had to wait until the season was almost over, if not already over. So glad it got renewsled and also Greys Anatomy. From the comments I’m surprised this is some people first time watching the series. I can see why it had higher rating on ABC than Fox for the season premiere. The move to ABC was for the best maybe.
I love 911. I don’t leave the house when it’s on. I love Bobby and Athena together. The fire fighters are unbelievable. Hot-Hot-Hot. Thank you.
🙂❤️❤️❤️❤️🤭
Great news. If ABC are smart, they’ll air seasons 1 to 7 over the Summer before season 8 begins in the (hopefully) Fall
They’re already in syndication on multiple channels (WE, USA, and available on demand if you have DirecTV). To run all 7 seasons over the summer, ABC would have to buy syndication rights to Seasons 1-6 (they already have the right to run season 7 once more).
