We at long last spy a (final) return date for Alex Rider — and also have a trailer to cue up!
TVLine has learned that Season 3 of the spy-thriller Alex Rider will premiere Friday, April 5 — a full 28 months after Season 2 dropped.
All eight episodes will stream on, yes, Freevee. What’s more, Amazon’s free, ad-supported streaming hub says that those episodes “will bring this chapter of Alex’s journey of self-discovery to a shocking conclusion on Amazon Freevee.” [Emphasis ours.]
Based on Anthony Horowitz’s best-selling book franchise, Alex Rider follows the titular London-based teenager who, unbeknownst to him, has been trained for the dangerous world of espionage since he was a child.
Adapted from the fifth Alex Rider novel, Season 3 sets the teen on the tail of his greatest enemy: the elusive criminal network known as Scorpia. Under new leadership, the criminal cabal plan to extort the British Government using their catastrophic new super-weapon: Invisible Sword. Free of The Department and aided by his closest friends, Tom Harris and Kyra Vashenko-Chao (Brenock O’Connor and Marli Siu), Alex embarks on a personal mission to destroy Scorpia once and for all. Little does he know, his ties to both organizations run deeper than he ever thought possible.
“It’s been such a great experience seeing the fan reaction to the first two seasons of Alex Rider,” author and executive producer Horowitz said in a statement. “I am thrilled this upcoming season will focus on Scorpia, as the story will lead Alex (played by Otto Farrant) and viewers to question everything they’ve learned so far.”
Executive producer Eve Gutierrez shared, “We’re so excited to bring Anthony Horowitz’s fifth Alex Rider novel to life with this upcoming season of the show, a personal favourite of mine and a huge turning point in Alex’s journey.
“This season throws a spotlight on how all of the characters have grown and evolved over the last few years,” Gutierrez continued, “and we feel confident that fans will be gripped as Alex finds himself on the cusp of adulthood and torn between two dangerous organisations.”
Also returning for Alex Rider Season 3 are Vicky McClure as Mrs. Jones, Stephen Dillane as Alan Blunt and Ronkẹ Adékọluẹ́jọ́ as Jack Starbright.
New cast additions, meanwhile, include Sofia Helin (Sweden’s Lust) as Julia Rothman, Shelley Conn (Gen V, Bridgerton) as Laura Kellner, Kevin McNally (TURN: Washington’s Spies) as Max Grendel and Jason Wong (Warrior) as Nile.

Already had it on my calendar from their brief trailer drop on the 20th. The trailer looked fantastic so my hope is the series ends well if it’s not picked up by another streamer. Come on, Netflix!
Thank you for the confirmation and update, Matt!
Has there been a confirmed date as to when Freevee is going away, because last i heard it was going to be ‘weeks and possibly by the beginning of April. I assume that’s been extended? All episodes available to stream on April 5??
I look forward to watching it.
I love this Series; I hope some other Network/Streamer picks it up.
A giant problem with this series, much like Percy Jackson, is that it cannot be filmed in a profitable manner. Unlike Harry Potter (feelings about JKR aside), neither of those series were great works of writing. They appealed to tweens, but not much older than that. I enjoyed the books, of both series, but I have to admit the writing is a step below HP. HP appealed to adults as much as kids. Families would go see HP. Parents drop their tween kids off to see PJ and Alex Rider. It isn’t a family event. I could, to this day, watch HP movies on a loop.
.
There just isn’t any way to film these books in a way that makes sense financially. There just isn’t. To be at all faithful to the books would require a James Bond film level of production values. Which is ruinously expensive for the movies, much less TV, because of the smaller built in audience.
So is it s3 and done I mean 6rs stilt for another season is ridiculous
Also I’ve head not on in April now is this true ?
