Simone Hicks is warming up for her final tennis match.
All American: Homecoming has been cancelled at The CW, TVLine has learned, making its upcoming third season its last. The news comes two weeks after TVLine reported that the offshoot was looking unlikely to return for a fourth season.
“I’m devastated to learn that All American: Homecoming will not be moving forward with more episodes and that this new season premiering in July will be our final one,” executive producer Nkechi Okoro Carroll said in a statement on Wednesday. “However, I am so very grateful to have worked with this incredible cast and crew, led by Geffri Maya, to bring the authentic HBCU experience to your screens for the last three seasons. We made this show for the culture and thank our loyal audience and fans for taking this ride with us. We made this show so that our community, our kids and their dreams could be seen and celebrated every week and we are proud to say we accomplished that mission, especially with this exciting final season which we can’t wait to show you all. So with a heavy but proud heart, I give one final shoutout to our favorite Bringston Lions!”
Added a spokesperson for The CW: “We want to thank the cast, crew, producers, NK, Marqui [Jackson] and everybody at Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television for their hard work and dedication in telling these important stories for three incredible seasons. The upcoming final season is the best yet and we cannot wait to share it with fans beginning on Monday, July 8.”
A spinoff of All American — which was renewed for Season 7 at the network earlier this week — All American: Homecoming centers on Simone Hicks (Geffri Maya) as she navigates undergraduate life at Bringston University, including the pursuit of a professional tennis career. The series-regular cast also includes Sylvester Powell (JR Raymond), Netta Walker (Keisha McCalla), Mitchell Edwards (Cam Watkins), Camille Hyde (Thea Mays), Martin Bobb-Semple (Lando Johnson), Cory Hardrict (Marcus Turner) and Rhoyle Ivy King (Nathaniel Hardin), while Peyton Alex Smith (Damon Sims) and Kelly Jenrette (Amara Patterson) will recur during the third season.
All American: Homecoming returns for its final season on Monday, July 8, at 9/8c, before settling into its regular 8 pm time slot on July 22. Its cancellation comes on the heels of similar news for Walker, which was axed at The CW in May after four seasons.
TVLine’s 2024 Renewal Scorecard has been updated with Homecoming‘s fate. Weigh in below with your thoughts on the news!
I’m excited to see The CW get cancel
Yeah, I don’t think the CW will last much longer at this rate.
It will last. They will carry sports, and will probably bring over more Ashley Banfield crap from NewsNation. For an all news channel, NewsNation carries an awful lot of real world crime stories.
NewsNation’s daytime news coverage is very good, even though they don’t ask enough probing questions with at least some pushback to the people they are interviewing.
There night time news coverage is more miss than hit.
I mean they stated that as the plan all along, with some low cost gen entertainment, they have delivered that pledge plus gave you a few more seasons of former cw shows, it’s better than the alternative, cw as a network has lost money hand over fist most of iys life, granted it’s owners wb/cbs got rich off of backend distribution to overseas/hulu/netflix/streaming. Nexstar sees very little of the backend with deals that only allow last 5 in season views on the app.
The CW should just shut down at this point. There’s no reason for it to be on at all.
I’m a big fan of All American Homecoming and disappointed it will be cancel, I wish another network will pick it up. So many young people lookup HBCU.
Hope this and All American, even though it’s getting a season 7, gets scooped up by another network or even Netflix so they can continue.
Nexstar and their spokesperson can go to bankrupt hell as far as I’m concerned. How is their grandeur plan of making this broadcast network “profitable” going on so far when all they continue to do is push away the already established audience the network had by gutting it’s shows? Their mindset for cheap only shows is miopic and pathetic. I wish them all the absolute worst for vivisecting The CW’s legacy.
It’s clear that all Nexstar cares about is profit & at this rate they’re not going to be profitable if they keep this up. And you’re right. They are vivisecting the CW’s legacy & they clearly don’t care. Why did they take over the network in the first place, do you think? I think they were ordered by CBS & Viacom to get rid of it. Because they clearly didn’t want it anymore.
What company doesn’t care about profit? How can any company stay in business without making a profit?
I swear if they cancel all American after season 7 next year that’s it on their scripted series all I have on the cw this year is wwe nxt and wild cards
After S&L and eventually Wild Cards have completed their runs, I’m done with the Cee Dub
How does it work with the CW being transferred to cable vs. broadcast?? Surely we can’t consider the CW part of the ‘big 5’ broadcast networks anymore when they have so little original content. Either shut the network down or call the channel for what it is, but it can’t continue on like this or be part of mainstream conversation when it clearly isn’t the network it used to be. A shame because the CW was a longtime home to many niche and loved programming that had its audience. The channel is a shell of its former glory.
They are probably headed down the path of TBS. TBS carries sports, old movies, as well as TBBT and Friends reruns which they run into a ditch with over-saturation. And as I have sad above, they can bring over more content from their NewsNation cable channel.
Hopefully they knew this would be it and they are able to wrap things up properly.
Not happy to hear this awful news😢😔it’s just not right, not fair! I’m devastated! Maybe another network can re-kindle the show, I don’t care about the CW never did but, it brought us soo many great shows, All American Homecoming was definitely 1of them..
Once All American gets cancelled — I’ll bet after season 7. I’m done with CW channel. Seems like I’m not alone on this move either. CW, I predict will not exist soon. That’s real tragic because CW was once a force of a network with Epic shows. The current new series are a joke! What a waste now.
It’s like someone burning down their own building & then collecting the insurance money.
This was a great show. Wow Why cancel it.
I bet that a “Final Season” announcement for All American‘s season seven is coming next. I was thinking the All American shows’ chances for renewal would improve with their recent switch to lowercase closed-captioning (as part of an overall cost-cutting drive), but alas, it’s just not going to be to be with the Homecoming spinoff. I’m sorry. :(
My best wishes for the continued success of Found (Nkechi Okoro Carroll’s other show over at NBC). Then the crew of the All American shows will put all of their resources on That one going forward.
