Axel Foley is back on active duty in a newly released photo from Beverly Hills Cop 4.
Netflix on Tuesday offered a first look at Eddie Murphy, 62, reprising his iconic role nearly 30 years after the release of Beverly Hills Cop III.
As previously reported, Murphy will be joined by fellow returnees Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser and Bronson Pinchot in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley, which is set for release in 2024. Per Empire Magazine, franchise newcomers include Kevin Bacon as an LAPD special-unit officer, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Foley’s new partner, and Taylour Paige (Hit the Floor) as Foley’s criminal defense attorney daughter.
The original Beverly Hills Cop followed Murphy’s rule-bending Detroit police detective as he ventured to Los Angeles to investigate the murder of a longtime friend. It went to gross $234 million at the U.S. box office, making it the highest-grossing domestic release of 1984, and received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay in 1985.
That was followed by two sequels: 1987’s Beverly Hills Cop II and 1994’s Beverly Hills Cop III.
CBS previously attempted to being the Beverly Hills Cop franchise back by way of a 2013 pilot that starred Brandon T. Jackson (Tropic Thunder) as Axel Foley’s son, Aaron. The pilot reportedly tested well but ultimately died on the vine because Murphy refused to make recurring appearances on the show.
Eleven years later, he’ll reprise Axel in Netflix’s highly anticipated lega-sequel.
Take a look at Murphy in action above, then hit the comments and let us know if you’re looking forward to Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley.
Finally! Hollywood is coming out with something original. SMH
It’s just corny at this point. Hollywood should let this generation of youngins have their own legacy shows and not reheat old stuff . I might be checking but that’s just me
You know you can just NOT WATCH IT instead of complaining about it. Yes, there are a ton of reboots/sequels but there are thousands of movies each year that aren’t. There is so much content these days it’s easy to find original movies if you don’t like reboots or sequels. The two best movies of the year are original in Oppenheimer & Killers of the Flower Moon.
Axel Foley should be retired and living in Boca Raton Florida.
Maybe that’s the spinoff, Boca Raton Retired Cop.
No, not particularly original (LOL), but if the writing is good and Murphy is on his game, it could be highly enjoyable. I look forward to it….
I’m little-kid excited for it, especially since Pinchot is back
Isn’t he “getting too old for this sh..” Different franchise maybe ;)
So good news, Jerry Bruckheimer s back producing it , Harold faltamyer s back doing the soundtrack, no sure about the director thou , and how all the characters are gonna fit in , billy and taggert are back in for the ride,
Considering how long its taken to put together it’s a hit or a miss really
And netflix no cinema release , not a good sign
Yeah, Netflix should definitely release it in theaters too. There are some people like myself that don’t use Netflix.
Oh, I’m so happy doin’ the neutron dance (it’s all over me)
I’m just burning (can you feel it?)
Doin’ the neutron dance (yeah, yeah)
Woo-hoo (woo, woo)
Woo-hoo (woo, woo)
Someone stole my brand new Chevrolet!
I am in. Hope it’s done right.
5 years ago I wouldn’t have really been excited for this, but Eddie Murphy has been in great form over the past few years.
Bring the funny or don’t bother!
I was sold with just Eddie Murphy, but the rest of the cast is icing on the cake. I’ll watch that.
I’ve been waiting 30 years for this. Axel!, Axel!
D4mn it – he did age well!
Why damn it? You were rooting for him not to? Weird.
