Never bet against Chuck Lorre. The sitcom titan’s latest comedy, Bookie, has been renewed for Season 2 at Max.
The pickup comes two weeks after the Sebastian Maniscalco-led series wrapped its eight-episode freshman run. Maniscalco executive-produces, along with co-creators Lorre and Nick Bakay.
“We couldn’t be more excited that Max listened to their gut, paid the juice, and let it ride on Season 2 of Bookie,” Lorre and Bakay said Friday. Added EVP of HBO programming and Max comedy head Amy Gravitt: “The collaboration between Chuck and Sebastian has proven to be a winning hand, and we’re looking forward to continuing the story with this incredibly talented cast and crew.”
Warner Bros. Television Group chairman and CEO Channing Dungey also released a statement: “There’s no doubt that Chuck and Nick’s Bookie won big this season as they took us on a hilarious ride into the underbelly of illegal sports gambling, featuring a cast led by another dynamic duo: Sebastian Maniscalco and Omar J. Dorsey,” she said. “I’m looking forward to watching more of their antics in Season 2. Congratulations to the entire cast and crew, and thanks to our partners at Max.”
Bookie centers on Maniscalco’s Danny, and picks up just as “the potential legalization of sports gambling in California threatens to upend his business for good,” according to the official logline. “Alongside best friend and former NFL player Ray (Queen Sugar‘s Dorsey), side-hustling sister Lorraine (NCIS: New Orleans’ Vanessa Ferlito) and reluctantly reformed drug dealer Hector (Lost’s Jorge Garcia), Danny must contend with his increasingly unstable clients as he tries to settle their debts – all while making plenty of risky bets of his own.”
Andrea Anders (That ’90s Show) and Maxim Swinton (Fleishman Is in Trouble) co-star as Danny’s wife Sandra and his stepson, Anthony.
The series launched on Nov. 30, and made headlines for reuniting Lorre with star Charlie Sheen, who played a heightened version of himself in two Season 1 episodes. Furthermore, the premiere reunited Sheen with Two and a Half Men co-star Angus T. Jones, who together recreated a scene from Men’s 2003 pilot.
“It was really healing,” Lorre told TVLine of the experience. “It really felt good. It felt like we were closing the book on some horrible times, and we had a good time.
“And having Angus be part of it… Angus put acting behind after Two and a Half Men, and he just slipped right [back] into it,” Lorre noted at the time. “It was second nature to him. He was a skillful actor at 10 years old, and he was equally skillful at 30.”
A timetable for Bookie‘s Season 2 release has not been determined as of press time.

Glad to hear it. Say what you will, but Lorre creates shows a lot of people watch. Even Young Sheldon has been in the top 10 on Netflix everyday for like the past 2 months straight.
This show is hella funny! Yay!
Huzzah!! This is great news. This show is hilarious. Loved the first season.
I wasn’t sure I’d like it, but I ended up loving it. So glad it’s been renewed.
Fantastic! Love the show–big fan of Sebastian.
We just binged this and loved it! So glad to hear it’s coming back 😊
I absolutely enjoyed Bookie. I think the cast from major to minor contributors were great. I especially eenjoyed seeing Mr. Sheen and was surprised/pleased to see Mr. Jones. I just hope the producers/writers don’t start messing with the formula to much. And up making it a different show.
Loved the Bookie! So happy it’s back for another season!,

I absolutely loved it. I was hoping there would be future seasons of the show. I told my family about how great it was. I’ve watched it over a few times and invited a nephew to watch it with me. When I saw Two and half Men and Everbody Loves Raymond with Chuck Lorrey that was a HUGH WOW. (Forgive me if I misplaced his name). The show is awesome. I did miss the young actor in Two and a Half Men young actor. He was fantastic. I don’t know who he is. I HOPE FUTURE SEASONS are ahead!
This series is the reason I signed up for Max…Super excited that it is coming back!!!
Hey! Saw one episode of Bookie and I was hooked! Can’t wait for season two! I thought it was a class act to have Mr. Sheen and T. Jones together again, and everyone else involved. Yes! someone mentioned something about healing. Healing mends old wounds and brings life back into the spirit so men can live and stop existing! Bring on some more healing, and the show is great!
