The TV biz has the bah humbug blues.
A total of 17 series were laid to rest in December — and there’s still 10 days left in the month!
Not surprisingly, the body count was highest at HBO/HBO Max, which axed seven programs during the first two weeks of December, including Joss Whedon’s troubled The Nevers, anthology rom-com Love Life, ’70s sex satire Minx, voguing competition Legendary, dating romp FBoy Island, Issa Rae’s Sweet Life: Los Angeles and bilingual comedy Los Espookys.
Netflix shuttered four shows, including much-maligned workplace comedy Blockbuster, fantasy drama Warrior Nun, cult fave The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself and Mike Flanagan’s latest horror show The Midnight Club.
Shockingly, only one of December’s dozen-plus casualties hail from one of the five beleaguered broadcast networks (we’re looking at you Monarch). But, again, the month is young.
Which of the holiday season’s fatal blows hit you hardest? Think long and hard about the options and then cast your ballot below. And then head to the comments to explain your choice.
Warrior Nun
Los Espooky’s was so much fun…The characters were so funny and so unique. They believed in what they were doing and made it all happen with great imagination and flair. I will miss the cast. Watching Tati become a different person after her marriage to her rich husband that has no interest in her is hilarious. She is blissfully clueless to life around her.R.I.P or maybe resurrect at a new network
I too place Los Espookys as most missed show. Followed by Warrior Nun and Minx. I was not aware of Finding Italy — I will try to find it.
Luckily, I don’t watch any of them. I watched The Nevers but could take or leave another season.
I didn’t hear this was canceled. We really liked it. Will we get the 2nd half of the first season or is it just done? Thanks
They are hoping to move the series to another platform.
The only one of these I “watched” were the first 10 -15 minutes of “Blockbuster” but I knew that was a hard pass. I had sort of planned to give “Moonhaven” a shot, though.
Stanley Tucci Finding Italy was a great way to see Italy and different cultures and foods. It’s a shame.
CNN is cancelling all of its original programing, but Tucci said he hopes it gets picked up by a streamer. What a great advertisment for travel to Italy. I could just taste the food he was eating!
Monarch’s cancellation was a disappointment for me. This is the umpteenth primetime soap that I invested in and, like cryptocurrency, went up in smoke. I’ll never say never again, but …
Monarch – why do they bother to introduce new shows & don’t even give them a chance???
Trace Adkins should’ve had enough fans tuning in to keep Monarch at least for the full season. And I was surprised by how good the “daughters” Anna Friel and Beth Ditto were on stage. Only thing I can think of is it must’ve cost a fortune to produce all those concerts but then again they knew that going in.
I like Trace Adkins’s music, but the dude just can’t act worth a crap. Susan Sarandon would have been better off left dead, and not being seen no more. I really liked the show though. I loved the voices of Anna Friel and Beth Ditto. I hope they find a place somewhere else.
Ms. Sarandon is a great actor.
I quit Monarch and Moonhaven after just a couple of episodes. They were both terrible. Those were the only ones on this list I tried. Was gonna binge Shantaram but now why bother.
Warrior Nun!!!!
First Kill!!
Others
Legends of Tomorrow
Batwoman
Warrior Nun because it seemed to me that the story likely only had one more season to actually tell its full story. I am disappointed about the Midnight Club, but I think I was prepared for only one season of that show. I am a little worried who at Netflix will explore the Pike library that they seem to have at least from what Flanagan said. I am also disappointed in the show that I will only call Half Bad because that was the name of the book and a much better title that actually applies to some extent to all three of our main characters but also I am trying not to get too committed to the late summer/early fall releases from Netflix. That kind of seems to be their off season dumping time.
None listed. I only watch a few Medical dramas on ABC, NBC, and Fox. Don’t follow anything streaming.
Oh wow hadn’t even heard of sweet life, hopefully I’ll be able to catch it if hbo is looking to remove it like all the other cancellations
Except for Blockbuster, I did not see and/or know about any of these shows until they were canceled.
Yeah, specific to Warrior Nun it was really popular among those who did find it but it literally had 0$ in promotion by Netflix.
Legendary needs a new home, there’s nothing like this show out there and we need more.
100% So fun and original.
Yes, please! Legendary must do what needs to be done!
1 pick is too hard, Bastard Son and Warrior Nun hurt, especially Bastard Son, IMO that was one of the best shows I’ve seen in years, it was brilliant.
None.. lol.. Woww.. there are too many mediocre shows now.. I’ll just stick with quality shows..
Life is too short ..
Same. They need a none of the above box.
From the list provided I have only seen episodes of The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself (Netflix) and Monarch (Fox) so I’d have to go with Monarch.
Monarch … Fox clearly had high hopes for this serialized drama, filled with story, characters, music, potential. Something happened in the execution. The Dottie Roman character should have taken hold before dying, maybe six episodes. We never really understood or felt her influence or presence. Writing was overwhelmed with touch story. You cannot just give audiences a moment. We need to feel suspense, emotion, and fallout. We never were given time for that. Or to really build an affinity. A shame as this was a strong cast. My choice because it’s another high profile disappointment for broadcast TV.
Tucci too is a sad cancellation. So good a show.
I hate to say this but none of them. I loved season 1 of Warrior Nun. Season 2 just didn’t do anything for me.
Wild, season 2 of Warrior Nun was leagues above 1, wonder why it didn’t grab you?
None of these shows save for Monarch merited any attention from me and Monarch was a gimmick show that was unwatchable, so to me with the exception of the cast and crews being out of work mean nothing to me or my life.
That being said, Merry Christmas
Warrior Nun was great and the story of a potential 3rd season would have been amazing, the lore and romance was already really well done
Halfway through Bastard Son and sad there won’t be more
Warrior Nun for sure. Great premise. Great characters. Great cast. Great VFX. I think you can see where I’m going with this.
I’ve never heard of any of them, so I’ll abstain.
Warrior Nun!!!
Warrior Nun. No question.
