TVLine Items: Eddie Murphy Xmas Movie, Star Trek Shorts and More
Christmas is coming early for Eddie Murphy, whose holiday movie Candy Cane Lane will premiere Friday, Dec. 1, exclusively on Prime Video, our sister site Variety reports.
Murphy plays Chris, who has his sights set on winning the neighborhood’s annual Christmas home decoration contest. He unintentionally strikes a deal with an elf (Brittany Runs a Marathon‘s Jillian Bell) to improve his odds, and she in turn casts a spell that brings to life the 12 Days of Christmas, unleashing chaos on the town. It’s up to Chris to battle magical creatures and save the holiday for his family and his neighbors.
Tracee Ellis Ross (black-ish) costars as Chris’ wife, Carol. (We see what you did there with the character names.) The cast also includes Ken Marino (Party Down, The Other Two), Nick Offerman (Parks & Recreation), Robin Thede (A Black Lady Sketch Show) and Chris Redd (SNL), among others.
Candy Cane Lane was directed by Reginald Hudlin (Boomerang, House Party) from a script by Kelly Younger.

The voice cast includes George Takei as Sulu, Jonathan Frakes as Will Riker, Doug Jones as Saru, Armin Shimerman as Quark, Ethan Peck as Spock, Gates McFadden as Dr. Beverly Crusher, Celia Rose Gooding as Uhura, Connor Trinneer as Trip Tucker, Bruce Horak as Hemmer and Noël Wells as Tendi.
* Hulu has released a trailer for the Kaitlyn Dever-led sci-fi thriller No One Will Save You. The film begins streaming Friday, Sept. 22:

Don’t get tp excited. If you watch the clip they mention that those animated shorts are not cannon.
As a long time Trekkie who was fortunate enough to meet Nichelle Nichols at a convention, I can’t say that the preview of these “shorts” really did much for me.
Excited about the Short Treks… but what a missed opportunity to get Andrew Robinson to reprise Garak!
